I wouldn't say it's a shit idea to put a tuning box in your car, but I'd prefer to do a custom tuning with dynoruns. Every engine is a little bit different, thats why there are also different output datas on dynoruns of stock cars.. but I got to admit, that it's really easy to remove.

i did uby a TDI TUNNING box and did a dyno and it was making no where near the power they claimed

Only thing with Rebellion tunes is that on the A45 forums some people have said that after 'tricking' the ECU to generate more power but supposedly after a year or so the ECU relearns the map and adapts, resetting back to stock.

These boxes divide opinion in the tuning community. I went for a revo remap on my old motor (Leon Cupra), after looking at one of these plug and play options - I simply wasn't prepared to take the risk after some of the horror stories I'd heard. Also Remaps can be reset to factory if required. Please be careful with your pride and joy guys. I'd risk it on a £2000 weekend burner, but NEVER, EVER on a £50k+ AMG.

Not a fan of all these "piggyback" systems!! Piggyback systems trick the car into thinking something that's not there. People should really get a "flash tune", it's much better.

This kind of power boxes are only connected to 4 sensors. It's basically misleading the engine central unit (ECU = the brain of your engine) on injection parameters, boost pressure and engine temperature. And it's done without any data loging or dyno tests... How can you guess the power increase ? A custom ECU remap would have been so much better for your engine.

Mark Galloway send it back mate and look at piggy back boxes. Fine for a 10k motor not a 50k one. All the R&D merc does and your just using a cheap box to run your pride and joy! Map it or keep it standard.

Mark Galloway it's just a bit naff mate. I've got a golf r and ran a box for a few months before moving up to APRs stage 1 map and the difference is night and day. Piggy back boxes trick your car which isn't good as they also take over running your car without the safety parameters your Ecu uses. A custom map is made for your car only with the a45 you would be looking at close to 450bhp too.

save the money. you get used to more power so quickly. my first car was an opel (vauxhal in the u.k.) with 60hp. then i got a skoda octavia with 130hp. coming from 60hp this thing felt like a rocket and i thought i would never need more power then it had. after some weeks it bored me and i tuned it with a box. still bored me after a year or so and i went with a skoda superb with 170hp. that was okayish but i chipped it to around 200hp and kept it for a while. now i have an audi a6 with 313hp and it starts to bore me again... see what i mean? ;)

YamahaYZFR6RJ05 yeah but I would say go for a minimum of 150bhp. Makes pulling out of roundabouts, just general driving etc way more enjoyable and safer imo

Chris Scott correct me if I'm wrong, I think 150bhp is around 127hp. 127hp are 18 "raging horses" more than he has right now... so next to nothing for a car at around 1,5 tons

archie strudwick should try a DTUK box! If it's the one that has 320PS standard they take it up to 360PS and adds 55Nm of torque! :)

Fabii it's a crappy alternative mate. Some generic software running your expensive car not good. He wants a full custom map. These companies that sell theses boxes just play on the 'it won't effect warranty' that's their selling point.

if you get a plug and play box like this no because you can just take it out anytime. if tou remap the actuall ecu on the car then it does invalidate your warranty.

So where is the sensible conversation as 1, are you overfulling?, 2 risk of reducing the life of components, ie you are of course over injecting fuel from standard, risk of injector failure? risk of engine damage as maybe timing and combustion pattern is altered? 3. insurance increase, this needs declaring, you crash with this on, you will be deemed uninsured. Have you actually been told what this box does? and how it works? you dont just gain 50hp without change... do they offer warranty or guarantee that they will not damage your car?

Iso Confused Ecu tuning is the easiest and cheapest way to gain more power. Everyone does it. If the tuner knows what his doing it will not hurt the engine.

Hmm im guessing you have never had either a remap or used a plugin box. ECU remap is if properly done a map that is written for your car, a box is a generic box that is not tailor made to your car. My car is a diesel and at stage 2ish with a hybrid turbo, fmic, gone from 130bhp - 210bhp, there are loads of generic maps i could have gone with including boxes, but with reports of turbos going pop, and clutches not handling torque, mine has been written for my car on the road not a dyno, so 210bhp still doing 52mpg ..
