I have now owned 4 new Subaru WRX, 2 manual and 2 CVT and next week i take delivery of my new 2024 WRX CVT.. The Subaru CVT Auto i have found to be just brilliant in heavy stop - start traffic situations, and excellent for highway driving with our long distances here in Australia. I have never had any issues with either transmissions.. BTW all my cars are driven with respect and serviced when due at my local Subaru service dealer 👍 Au

Great video and infos man. Few years ago we did a test on the cvt max, was about 370ish whp and 350tq. Beat it up tuning and tracking cvt gave up but dug deeper into some components inside was able to revive it 2x. Replacing some parts as well internally. You're right a lot of the internal components are weak and were made like near non-serviceable. Hope to link up w you. Nice car too!
@tevintom25110 ай бұрын
This video has been proven wrong. Good amount of people have been making 300-325 whp and 350 wtq with no issues for a months. Even Graham of Boosted Performance has stated the CVT in the 22+ VBs feels stronger and tighter. Don’t know of anyone who’s broken down yet either. Sure you’re not gonna want to go full bolt ons and go mod for mod like on the manual but the VBs seem a LOT better when it comes to tuning.

I would love to see a cvt breakdown!! I currently drive a 2018 WRX premium CVT with about 65,000 miles on it and it hasn’t had any issues…. Yet. I’ve kept it stock for now and I’m not sure if I will add any power mods.

I'm not saying you are lying, but where is your support or proof for any on the things you say? Why is 300 hp and 300 torque the most? Why is the cvt likely to slip over that? Where is any evidence, anecdotes, proof, or anything?

The biggest issue i have with the SPT, is they have the Aisin auto from the BRZ Why not that? No fancy amount of coding will help a CVT in a performance based setting.

That 6 speed is most likely not capable of running the AWD system without a redesign.
@patricktan4096 Жыл бұрын
@@deving3370 there were is350's with awd that had that tranny so i dunno if it can't handle a subie awd. So it is a definite option for the wrx instead of the lame cvt we have.
@arinb.756 Жыл бұрын
It can't really be made to fit with Subaru's AWD system. If you search up a picture of what the drivetrain looks like when its all mocked up, it should become very clear. The layout is unique to Subaru's cars.

I like manual for play and automatic for daily. Since I only see these cars as rally cars I’m not looking to go absurdly high anyway. I drive an automatic 23 limited as a “daily”, living in New England and the North East, it works just fine when I’m in the city or when we have snow for a daily. My computer reads an average 18mph. A manual isn’t fun in dead stop and one ways.
@wanglee21 Жыл бұрын
Subaru needs to study the Formula1 race cars that used CVT that outperformed any manual and automatic gear boxes. CVT was banded because it destroyed the competition of gear boxes. It would be awesome to have those put into daily drivers.
@Augie..11 ай бұрын
Except the CVTs Subaru uses aren’t even close to those, hell the VA cvt is dog shit honestly. SPT may be slightly better, but I mean they changed the name for a reason.
@romankartsev22010 ай бұрын
I read that information about formula 1 cvt. they used very high quality parts in that cvt transmission it was able to handle 1000 hp or something. Reason why cvt is garbage on passenger cars is because it’s made from cheap parts

What are your thoughts on a 2023 premium CVT WRX for $37500 OTD after taxes and fees? I'm looking for a daily alongside my S2000, lookin for AWD and some decent fun with modern amenities. I’ve heard the weak point is the torque converter and not the actual internal workings of the SPT. Is that true? A built torque converter may fix this concern?
@romankartsev22010 ай бұрын
Love your video? What if I you upgrade the headers, mid pipe, jpipe do you think cobb ots map would work for these mods on 2022 cvt? Or should car be tuned on a dyno? I think taking through a dyne might cause to slip the cvt.
@AutoEnthusiast10 ай бұрын
Need to protune that, but I wouldn't do headers tbh. Maybe not even a jpipe, you won't be able to actually use the power from it. CVT will max out with just an intake + tune, and a catback.

That sucks but thank you for your feedback you are the best.

@AutoEnthusiast subaru never really gives us what we want . I am questioning if about dual clutch swap to replace the spt transmission. Yes, that would be very expensive, but so is building a high hp subaru if it is built properly .

Hello! I was really on the fence about the new WRX as everyone I talk to about it tells me not to buy it for not just one, but two laundry lists of reasons. If it is alright to ask, would you recommend a brand new base WRX (I need a twisting key and NOT push button start) or an older WRX that may be higher mileage or out of warranty? Thank you for your advice
@AutoEnthusiast Жыл бұрын
Grab a new one with a warranty if you don't plan on tuning, and vice versa if you plan on tuning maybe go for a VA. But for sure both the VA and VB are great options!

Meh, Most of the Bad rep Subarus get, is because of irresponsible tunes and part addings, that was traded in and sold to a new owner that receives the brunt of the engine problems. Our own worst enemy. If you just left the car how it was, drove it for what it is, its great for what it is at such a price. Meanwhile other companies sell you a $50,000 3cyl turbo with the same level of interior plush. Just go for the 261hp Audi A4 45 TFSI (used -> equal price point $35k for 5kmiles current) at that point, but have fun paying for that out of warranty... WRX still remains a win for working young people.

I would totally buy a performance upgrade for the SPT if it meant I could add more power (i.e. upgraded clutchpack, solenoids, transcooler, upgraded internals, etc.). For now, I like the idea of ~300 whp ~300 wtq on a 3500lbs vehicle with a stock transmission. It is my daily commuter for snowy/wet weather climate. Getting the front and rear spoilers added, plus a nice paint job for the plastic above the wheel wells is nice. Also, I am kinda upset about the brake options, as they also only go with the manual transmission without active dampening etc. "WTB Brembos" lol Either way, I have my cammed N/A 2006 Charger RT for the 1/4 mile that no Subaru can compete with mod for mod. Going to be building the Dodge's engine with Stroker kit with Forced Induction Cam. I am going to try with Turbo setup versus Supercharger (already upgraded transmission, torque converter, driveshaft, suspension for this) but we shall see (Gunna be expensive)...Already can't pass inspection as is :D so why not?

@AutoEnthusiast Жыл бұрын
DCT are expensive to design and just because a car has a DCT doesn't mean it's good. The DCTs in the Kia/Hyundai line up are cool and function great on stock power, but hold less power diff's than the CVT in the Subaru. A good DCT in a high end sports car is different, but the DCT costs as much as a Kia or Subaru lol.

DCTs are really on good with race cars. What Subaru needs to do is make a deal with ZF or Toyota to get a conventional auto modified for their AWD.
