@@ModeBespoke Thank you!! I'm so excited. 😃 But I was just wondering - I can't seem to find the double sided hook like yours where I live. It doesn't matter if the middle part is flat (the ones for crocheting laces apparently..) right? Or I see the ones with attachable long end like circular needle. Would both be fine to make the socks?
@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 3 жыл бұрын
🤔 the double-sided hook with the flat part in the center works just fine, but you’ll need to practice a little to get the tension right. Circular hooks work well, too. There are some sets that you can attach a hook on both sides of the cord, those work well. But if you can only find a Tunisian hook with one side, you can still make socks, but you’ll have to sew them together at the end. I have some tutorials where I show you how. Hello Atenas..thank you for the lovely pattern and tutorial. As i am trying to make elastic using knit stitch I find that my work is curling up too much. Could I instead make the ribbing from thick and comfy socks
@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! If you’d like to, I don’t see why not. It will curl, but as the sock takes shaped the curl goes away completely.

Do I need to make any changes to the pattern if I make them thigh highs? And also approximately how many grams of yarn will I need?
@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 3 жыл бұрын
Not really. So long as you measure the ribbing length to make sure it is long enough to wrap around your thigh, then work the decreases in the same intervals, you should be fine. As for grams, I don’t know. That would vary depending on the weight/thickness of the yarn you want to use, and our sock sizes could be different. I used up most of the grey yarn (the main color for the socks in the thumbnail) and that was about 100 g of fingering yarn, plus the small bits of yellow for the ribbing/heels/toes. I would start with maybe 150-200 g in the main color, just to make sure to have enough. 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is how I made the yellow socks. The only difference is the yarn. I used a single thread, instead of two. The yarn is called Woolike, and it’s a fingering yarn (size 1).

Can you make these socks with worsted weight yarn? I'm used to using acrylic 4 weight. How will that weight yarn change the pattern?
@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 2 жыл бұрын
You can! And yes, it will affect the pattern, but not in a way that can’t be easily adjusted. Since your yarn is thicker than what I used, you’ll need to base your work on measurements as opposed to stitch counts (lest you end up with a sock for a giant). The process is still the same, as are the decrease rows, but you’ll just need to try the sock on as you work, and jot down your specific stitch count so you use that same count for the second sock.

I have got a question for the toe. Shouldn't it work up by just decreasing and just finish with some kind of kitchener stitich like you would do with a knit sock? So what i mean is you start with a decrease make 16 stitches, 2 decrases again 16 stitches and 1 decrease. Next row you do the same but with less stitches in between so you make decrease, 14 stitches, 2 decrease, 14 stitches, decrease. And so on until you are left with 16 stitches in total. Now you have only to sew close that little gap and finish off the remaining stitches. What so you think ?!! Greetings from Germany
@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! You can certainly crochet the toe that way and it would work beautifully! I don’t crochet them that way in the tutorial because it’s a bit more advanced than what an advanced/experienced beginner would make. I’ve been slowly progressing the difficulty of the sock patterns so that viewers grown their skills by watching the tutorials sequentially, so eventually, I will end the socks that way. But for now, and possibly for the next several sock patterns, you’ll see the toe crocheted as I did in this tutorial. But, if you are comfortable decreasing them like a knit sock, then go for it! 😊

What kind of yarn did you use for the socks? I currently have cotton but I dont think it's the best for the socks I want to make
@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! It’s a nylon and acrylic blend. Cotton is def not the best way to go with crochet socks. Your fabric needs to stretch, and cotton has none whatsoever. I suggest a sock yarn (those are usually stretchy), or Woolike Yarn (it’s available at Michael’s stores in the US.) Woolike is what I generally use for most of my garment, sock, scarf, and hat patterns, but that’s just because I really, really like that yarn. Michael’s did have a new sock yarn by a company called Loops and Threads. I’m just barely going to try it (I’m picking some up tomorrow), but it was quite soft and stretchy, which is perfect!

sorry if it's a silly question but where on the leg do the decreases start? is it the top or the middle of the calf?
@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 3 ай бұрын
It’s not silly. From the top. Those can also be adjusted as you add length, just make sure you try your socks on as you go so you don’t have to frog it.

@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 3 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure I understand your question correctly, but no. I used the same yarn throughout the project. If you are referring to the photo on the thumbnail (the yellow and grey socks) I crocheted those using the same brand yarn (Woolike), but I used only one thread of yarn, instead of using two. It’s the same pattern, but the sock is just thinner. If I still didn’t answer your question, let me know and I’ll try again.

@@ModeBespoke oh, i see. When you finished the top part of the sock, and when you made some stiches with one piece of thread, you reversed on the hook and and used another piece of thread, of which I assume to be the other end of the yarn ball. But you did answer my question, thank you!💕💕

the rows after the elastic are flaring out because of the return pass with the extra loop 😢 the sock is sooo wide after the elastic.. and the elastic is too tight at the same time .. im following the same instructions.. why isn't my sock coming out as the one in the video 😭
@ModeBespoke
@ModeBespoke 4 ай бұрын
How about we break this down a little further? The extended return pass will add width to your fabric, so if that is giving you trouble, use it throughout the project (not just the sock part) so the width is consistent. Try your sock on as you go to make sure it fits. Use stitch markers every few rows to help keep track of what rows you’re on, and take notes! Jot down what rows you increased on, or where you made decreases so you can duplicate the steps for your second sock. If you’re stuck at any point, email me a photo. It helps me to see your project so I can better understand where the confusion is, and so I can offer some advice if you want it. Atenas@modebespoke.com
