seriously, i think the tunnel rats had one of the most terrifying roles in any war. Imagine crawling through these dark tunnels, just wide enough for you to fit through. Unsure what lies around the nex corner, vc? snakes? a pit? being drowned? Just sounds like the most horrible nightmare one can imagine

I went to Iraq and Afghanistan while serving with 1st, 3rd, and 25th infantry. They had the most dangerous war in Vietnam, and i owe a lot to the people who fought before me.

Okay... Horror movies have nothing on being a Tunnel Rat in the Vietnam War. Pitch balck, you don't dare use your flashlight, rarely able to use your gun, the adrenaline, claustrophobic conditions and every inch is a step away from death... The men are the bravest in my eyes.

None of that matters a lot of the time to the person who does the killing. Even if it’s 100% justified self defense, taking someone’s life can traumatize you. And doing it up close and personal with your bare hands is as bad as it gets.
