It's interesting that you can use both tuolla and siellä to refer to the same thing. For example you and your friend are in a restaurant and they say "Tuolla on enemmän tilaa" (It's less crowded over there) and you say "No mennän sinne" (Well, let's go over there). Here, tuolla introduces a location in your vicinity, and siellä refers to the specific location your friend just introduced. So siellä works a bit like the definitive article "the".

Kuulemma monissa suomen kielen oppikirjoissa (omassanikin) on tämä anekdootti(kaukoputki kuvituksena): Osta kaukoputki, sillä näet nimittäin! ;) Kat! You are doing a great job!
@KatChatsFinnish Жыл бұрын
Ai oikeesti? En ole kuullutkaan siitä :o
@hannunorppa5590 Жыл бұрын
Kielikellokin on asian huomioinut. Itse kyllä muistan "Setälän kieliopista" että se olisi ollut kaukoputki, mutta se ei lieene oleellista, vaan samojen sanojen eri merkitys eri yhteyksissä. @@KatChatsFinnish

As a fellow Finn this is really good stuff. Only thing I'd add is that "tuolt", "siel" or "sielt" isn't really natively used outside of Helsinki and maybe Turku. So I'd suggest you use literary words like "tuolta", "siellä" and "sieltä" before you can differentiate the dialects. All in all, however you choose to say it in Finnish, we love your effort!

@KatChatsFinnish Жыл бұрын
Hyvä idea!
@hyhhy Жыл бұрын
One little difficulty is that "tuolla" can be both an adverb (as in the video!) and a demonstrative pronoun in kirjakieli... They look the same. But in puhekieli the adverb is "tuolla" (or "tuol") while the demonstrative pronoun is "tolla" (or "tol"). Just wanted to mention.

You are simply awesome 👍😎 I attended a Finnish course where the teacher was trying to teach us, new students who knew nothing about Finnish, he was trying to teach us Finnish in Finnish !!! This is the stupidest idea ever ! I do not care who came up with it, it is absurd, or more frankly, outright stupid ! Enforcing this way of teaching must stop. It makes learning Finnish a very bad experience and much more difficult than it should be. And as you might have guessed, I eventually quitted the course out of misery and anger.

Oh no, I'm sorry you had such a bad experience during your Finnish course. Hopefully you're at least able to pick up a few things from my videos. Good luck!! :)
