Despite everything, he remembered and called out to God. The entire song is like a prayer. He is pleading for help and mercy. I hope God has mercy upon him. As he said he grew into a dying tribe...he entered the death of the Black Panthers. It's a heavy reality to be part of a people who are being assassinated. Few understand.

Tupac had an old soul/heightened sense of external & internal awareness.He was different than most of the peers in his genre.Most rappers like to take simple subjects, get drunk on fancy word play, and fool gullible listeners into thinking they're more complex than they really are.Tupac seemed at the opposite end of the spectrum.He could take "heavy" or complex issues and convey them in the most simple/practical way.With ultra clear clarity.To the point where even the most foolish person in the room could understand what he was trying to convey..It's simple, yet powerful.On top of that, he wasn't afraid to be vulnerable.A master at disarming the listener with his words.He made you trust him somehow.I can't think of many artist, in any genre, with Tupac's level of transparency.I think he was born with an innate gift for being able to connect with people.He was very much an original/unique human being.
@ABoomerReacts

I totally agree with you. There are people who are born with a gift that makes them geniuses (for lack of a better word). Painters, musicians, poets, authors. I think when they are young, they assume that everyone has the gift but as they mature and realize that there is something special about them; I wonder what the acceptance of that fact was like for them? Most geniuses are too humble to talk about it but the how and when of the realization that your are special intrigues me.

My pleasure. I'm having a good time. Do you think it was specifically gangsta rap that hijacked people's perceptions of hip hop?
@princesskelly1154
@princesskelly1154 2 жыл бұрын
@@ABoomerReacts I don't think it was specifically gangsta rap. Because as you mentioned in another video mainstream was not accepting of "black culture" (the whole Blondie Rapture discussion) in general. For black people most forms of art (music, dance, clothing, food) was was not accepted and with that most artist spoke to their lives not worried about what "mainstream" wanted. It seemed dark dirty and bad to them because they didn't understand the lives that black people live. It wasn't just constant anger but often celebrating getting ahead and overcoming what society didn't want to allow. So for most people that listened to artist like Tupac when he started and offered more positive and in depth music the mainstream only saw a "black man rapping about the ghetto" and continued the narrative and label him even before then knew him, his music, hip hop as a whole, and the culture. Then as you are finding out his life went in a different direction.

Thanks, Phillip! In retrospect, I should have reacted to Tupac in chronological order so I could understand his evolution. Really early on doing this channel I did a series of songs about the East Coast/West Coast rivalry so the first 3 songs I heard by Pac were Hit Em Up, Bomb First, and Against All Odds. Then when I reacted to songs from 2Pacalypse, I was like "Who is the guy? He's all over the place". It took me awhile to get my bearings. But I'm good now. I can react to any song in his catalog and know the context.

This song is Pac”s masterpiece. My favorite Pac song. It’s not about the trial. He’s talking about the cell of his mind. He’s always been an introspective person. He’s always been nihilistic. You can hear it in his earliest music. Hell is his inability to not absorb his surroundings. He was able to see and feel what most couldn’t and that can be torturous. He was a true artist.

Read about how he was compelled to write “Brenda’s Got a Baby” on the set of “Juice” at the time. He was 19. he should’ve felt so hopeful being in the set of a movie, but he becomes obsessed with a girl he reads about in a newspaper. His co-stars said that’s all he could talk about and how he couldn’t understand why no one else was as upset as he was. I think if the Narrative of Frederick Douglass. In it he says. learning to read as a slave being a curse, because it was so isolating.

You wondered how he managed to record this song with everything going in his life. Fun Fact: A fan who briefly met Tupac at a shopping mall soon after his release from prison was asked What his favorite song was by Pac, he replied "So Many Tears", Pac then told him that it was hardest song he had ever written. :) I recommend you react to Brenda's Got a Baby (1st album), Life Goes On or Better Dayz (recorded on the same day 10-23-1995) or Teardrops & Closed Caskets (recorded 2-22-1996). Also you may be interested for your research of Tupac to listen to his interviews, he was great in them so any are worth listening but I would suggest starting with Chuck Philips 1995 interview since its a very relaxed setting, in the Death Row studio recording All Eyez on Me a couple days out of prison & you even get to hear Faith Evans singing on one of his songs live in the background. You often wonder how he was capable of doing such nice soft songs & then aggressive songs like Hit Em Up, well he does speak on that during the interview. He says during the interview that while he's alive he will cop criticism for his music but as soon as he dies people will realize how deep he is, which is exactly what happened - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pIi1pHmQibqCsM0&ab_channel=SKTV

@@ABoomerReacts nice, I’ll keep an eye out for Brenda’s Got a Baby reaction ! Regarding the interviews, most good ones are quiet long 20-40 mins so I would suggest stick to songs especially while you still have so many great tracks to uncover. BTW, there is another good interview with Chuck Philips from 1993. Tupac starts off really annoyed, you can tell he’s had with the media & doesn’t know Chuck from a hole in the wall but it turns around & becomes a great interview. You learn things about Tupac you wouldn’t expect like the music he listens to etc but he also talks about he’s writing process & how he feels some kind of Holy Ghost comes over him & the music just comes out & he is surprised by it himself. Pretty cool interview.

Listened to this song many times in my life. But the part that I felt the most was after the final verse where he adlibs and says, "God, please let me in." I felt that the hardest because I've been there. Depression is no joke. It won't take long for you to realize that Tupac is easily the greatest artist of the Hip Hop genre. He has such an abundance of songs in a short amount of time. He was very versatile. The songs you initially listened to were his most venomous. He was much deeper than that. Here are several other songs you could try. - Dear Mama - Changes - Unconditional Love - Letter To My First Born (original version) - White Manz World - Still I Rise (original version) - Me Against The World - Hail Mary - Krazy - Lord Knows There's so much more. Then his more fun songs like 'I Get Around' and 'California Love' and 'Nothing But Love' and the entire 'All Eyez On Me' double album. He even had romantic songs such as 'R U Still Down' and 'Can You Get Away'.

And when I die I'm baptized in eternal fire...Pac was also a student of the bible and in the bible when it refers to enternal fire or the 2nd death it means that you cannot be forgiven and there's no resurrection. That was his fear. That he knew the truth but that he had rationalized his movements so much so that there was a fear that god would not hear his pleas and judge him to eternal fire - He spoke about this in a beautiful piece called Blashphemy. That whole piece is a prayer go god asking him to see him but if not to at least show mercy and see that his heart was pure.

@@ABoomerReacts am alien thought to me too. For God said that we were created in his image, so I'd imagine our thoughts and mis-steps aren't foreign to our maker? Beyond that I'd like to say this. I remember waiting for the Palm Beach mall to open on a Monday way back when. It was because they were dropping Me Against The world. We were first in line and bought it and popped in the cd in as soon as we reached the car. It was the first time in my life that I felt that the voice coming in from the speakers was someone I knew intimately. Someone that was family. That knew me and my issues and struggles. It felt like we were riding out together in my 87 Monte Carlo dodging cops, dodging bullets, STDs, poverty and trying to stay alive. I can't articulate what that meant to us back then and the fact that it never left us.

It started with my second video on this channel. It was Juicy by The Notorious BIG. In the lyrics, he mentioned someone named Biggie Smalls. I had heard the name before, but I didn't know if he had died, too. On camera, I find out that they are the same person. Then I wonder about the east coast/west coast rivalry that ended with Big and Tupac's deaths. So I did an 11-episode series on it with a song reaction in each episode. I did 3 Tupac episodes in a row - Hit em Up, Bomb First, and Against All Odds. That was my introduction to Pac.
