Two different type of helicopter pilots, one flies full scale and the other flies turbine RC. They both own and love the HUEY helicopter. See this iconic bird in a different light.

Produced, filmed and edited by Kēvens
Scale Pilot: Terry N. Robertson
RC Turbine pilot: Rickey Reed
Footage from the scale Huey was taken during a training exercise.

My dream would be hopefully getting lucky enough to get a Riding in the largest heavy lifter Sea Stallion or the large ass Stinger helicopter that they use a lot in dropping water on wild forest fires!. Your video made me so DANG JEALOUS; But I enjoyed your enthusiasm in your dream come true also!, and THANKS FOR YOUR AWESOME REPLY BACK TO ME, That hardly ever happens, Thank you very much for the great video clip for me and everyone else to watch and view and ENJOY!. =))

Awesome video...had me in tears! I spent 6 years in the Navy, from '77-'83 as a nuclear power plant operator on the USS Texas (CGN-39). While in the Navy, I flew on various aircraft, including a Navy COD landing on the deck of the USS Nimitz. 4 years ago the American Huey Association came to my home town of Oscoda, MI, former home of Wurtsmith AFB. I rode on their Huey and LOVED IT! That 15 minute ride for a joining fee of $100 was WELL WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION! Sure, I could have rode a local sight-seeing helo on a 45 minute trip for $75, but it is NOT EVEN CLOSE to to the experience of a Huey!

Awesome video bro. I'm a US Army vet of the 1st Cav and I was part of the unit in a time just before we phased out Hueys for the Blackhawks. I got to ride in one myself and fly left seat. I know exactly the feeling you have in being able to do something like this. I also fly R/C, though only fixed wing, and I was a full scale pilot in civil aviation. I fulfilled a dream when at the age of 19 I bought my own airplane before I bought a car. It was a homebuilt plane, but hey, I was a teenager and I owned an airplane. Doesn't get much more awesome than that. This is a great video you have here.

Keith Whisman , What do you think of the latest Y models the USMC is using?
@keithwhisman
@keithwhisman 6 жыл бұрын
David Hoffman they are nice but not as rough and tough as their grand daddy machines were in Vietnam the old gun ships with a grenade launcher in the nose on a swivel mount and rocket launchers and nail guns and mini guns and quad gun layouts that were all the rage back then the old work horse ships that I had a pleasure to ride in before the birds were retired were loved by their crews who dreamed of UH60s but I know they dreaded the loss of their UH1s. Oh how I wish I still had my pictures, I had hundreds of pictures that were in a couple photo albums that were stolen from my car. All my military memories are just memories now.
@davidhoffman1278
@davidhoffman1278 6 жыл бұрын
Keith Whisman , Thieves sometimes steal stuff that has no high resell value, but is very valuable to one person or family. Sorry to read of that loss. From what I have read the new Ys are teamed up with the latest Cobras in various combinations that have proven extremely effective and efficient for the USMC in real world combat. The older models suffered from a lack of performance in the mountainous areas of Afghanistan and in high temperature areas. The Y's significantly upgraded avionics allows them to work much better with the Cobras during night missions than the older Hueys. The Huey's days are limited. There is a big move on for the much faster coaxial helicopters with push props in the back that are in research and development. Something to shut off the lovers of the extremely vulnerable Osprey type designs. I would be just terrified to be taking heavy fire during an Osprey's powerplant rotation with all that hydraulics and wiring exposed. You ever notice how only the worker bees have been using the V-22s during Presidential or Cabinet support missions? Very rare for any Cabinet Secretary to be in a V-22.

I love the HUEY! I never got a ride in one though. I flew in the CH-46, 47, 53, the Blackhawk. But never a Huey and that's been my favorite one since I was a child. The love and admiration I have for Vietnam Veterans was the driving force behind me joining the Marines when I was 18. I wanted to be just like those men. I still get a little speechless when I speak to Vietnam Veterans. I work at the VA now as a nurse. Never planned on being a nurse. I took all the courses to be a Firefighter when I was discharged from the Marines but it just never seemed to pan out so I used my pre-reqs for a nursing degree and now I get to talk to Veterans all day long and it's great. I have met some amazing people. Some of the greatest people God ever created that were stuck right smack in the middle of things most will only see in movies and I can tell you it's been my honor to have met them. And I won't ever forget. I have met Veteran's from Pearl Harbor, to Afghanistan and everywhere else in between. I heard every story a particular Army veteran was willing to tell me from his first deployment relieving the Marines from Guadalcanal, to being part of a mixed unit when the Marines picked him and his buddies up at the Chosin Reservoir in Korea. He actually spoke to Chesty Puller when they became part of his command. To his early mission to Vietnam just before he retired and the fighting picked up, for which he was happy to be retired when it did. I would say he had seen enough. Anyways, the Huey is symbolic of Vietnam for me, and for most I would imagine. Thank you for sharing the video.

@@kevens The first time that I ever rode on a Huey was while I was a AFJROTC cadet in Germany. The Huey was an US Army UH-1H stationed at Pirmasens Germany. I sat in the right side door gunners seat, and during the flight the pilot decided to fly nap of the earth, and while he did he banked left and right like a pendulum down a break in the trees. I saw trees, ground, trees, sky, trees, and etc. The last time I had a ride on a Huey it i was active duty USAF Security Policeman at Minot AFB ND. The aircraft was a USAF HH-1N assigned to the base for missile field support. The pilot needed to get his flight hours in, so he was getting them by flying my partner and I around our missile flight area checking on Minuteman Launch Facilities. We would land on a site check it out then take off and go on to the next site, we did 5 sites this way. At one site we landed under the power lines. When we took back off the pilot backed the Huey out from under the lines. I was justifiably impressed with his skills at the stick.

One of the best UH-1 videos i've seen on yotube. Thanks Kevens! Filming was very good and I was surprised how shaky it became once the rotor started spinning. It almost felt like something went wrong, but as I read its normal on Hueye. We have UH-1 standing right next to my PC-12 in a hangar , once they repaint it I might have a chance to fly it too. Good luck and thanks for the video!

As a past crew-member on a Huey (Vietnam 69-70), I still get extremely excited from occasional flights i get at military reunions. Flying in non-combat situations is different, you can read the difference in the book "In the Sanctity of the Snake Pit", a novel by Michael Guard.

@@kevens My first helicopter ride was in a Huey, as they were nearing the end of their career in the Army. Pilot shut off the engine about a thousand feet up above the airport. I think I screamed the whole way down. You can't get a ride like that at any amusement park. It took a month to wipe the grin off my face.

The model is COOL. I hate the Vietnam era, but I get the work put into this. It's amazing. Too bad my dad didn't get his hands on an old B-52 that he flew as the navigator from Guam to Vietnam... I love the sound of B-52 engines- grew up hearing them. But that Huey sounds really nice. The best part of this video are the BIG smiles and happy faces. Really cool experience.

STILL the COOLEST RC helicopter on the Internet!!! A true work of ART complete with the figures, and what piloting SKILLS!!! As for the 1:1 version, Unbelievable!!! What kind of exclusive neighbourhood allows for a Huey in a Hangar garage that you can roll out and go for a casual flight? When you feel like it. Looks like some incredible properties there, some people are living 😊 Is that the Everglades you flew over? Or am I way off? All the best!!

Brings back memories of hearing that good ol' turbine engine cranking up, with the blades beating the air into submission. One of my favorite lasting memories coming back state side from Desert Storm was, our unit coming to King Fahd Airport in a 26 bird flight chalk, one could feel the beating of the rotor blades in their chest; it put the movie "Apocalypse Now" beach landing scene to shame.
