Comet runs its first and my first ever 9 second 1/4 mile pass while at the Streetcar Takeover event at zMax dragway. Time slip at 1:28.

Stock bottom end 460, iron d3 heads with stock valves and mild port work, hydraulic flat-tappet cam, Holset bht3b turbo @ 13psi, e85, foot brake.

So cool what a very mild 460 can do. I can't understand why more people don't use the gems.

Tell me about it. I love these engines and have one in my race car as well as my 4x4 F-250. Historically it appears to be a case of bad timing. Ford didn't have much time to sell the higher performance variants until the smog era hit, whereas GM had a few more years of their offering to gain popularity. Harder to find compact OD transmission options (bell housing incompatibility) doesn't help. Another big factor is that up until about 20 years ago, most folks who knew what they needed or how to build them didn't share it much. Once the internet became widely available, information got out fast, and the advent of off the shelf stroker kits has made them much more popular. 545 or 557" out of a stock passenger car or pickup engine block with no clearancing is hard to argue with. It's become very comparable to a BBC in price to build one of these now, and good cylinder heads are widely available. Blocks are cheap and still available, and 454s are drying up a bit. Stock heads can support quite a bit of power, and now that porting information is out there, more people can make an awesome street engine with relatively little money. Turbos getting popular changed the game too, and these are really strong engines in stock form. The cranks can take a lot, and so can the blocks. I really wish we saw more of these over LS projects. If someone shows me an LS engine I just say "you can close the hood now" and I walk off. I'm bored to tears of them. Most people don't give one iota about what's under the hood though. Majority seem to only care about exterior appearance and give little thought to the drivetrain of a car. I'm the weirdo who's all about it.

Probably the weight and size would be my guess, and the stock cyl heads don't flow very good, but they have some great aftermarket stuff that makes them more desirable, I love them myself👍😃

Because most people these days are LS-swap dumbasses. It doesn't take much for a 460 to rip, as evidenced here. I was originally doing a 460 in my Fox but was talked out of it in favor of a Cleveland. Both are great ways to go fast.

I Went 128 in my maverick at the same track my left front tire came apart and the fan broke I still had to drive it home seven hours

Thank! Yep, currently makes between 12-14 psi down the track. Its pumping out some pretty hot air so I believe I'm nearing the end of its capabilities.

Only change was a new ignition coil! $40 shiny new red Edelbrock unit. Haven't touched the timing, yet. Track prep was terrible in the last video. This track HOOKED! Thanks for watching!

What cam you running ? What lifts ? I’m currently building one with forged internals . I got a mild cam for it but like to see others builds for seeing the capabilitys
