You're like the King of Miatas, only for Volvo D5's. Since I own a D5 these days with a KINDS of problems, your videos have been a lifesaver. I actually have the vacuum line for the mounts blocked off on mine, as they're leaking pretty heavily.

I’m having issues with my 2005 xc90 T6, that hose in mine seems dormant and not connected to anything, one hose from the turbo control solenoid goes towards the back of the engine, one goes to another plastic maybe it’s called intake pipe and the third one is dormant. Any idea where it goes? I think they have colored clips on the solenoid like green red yellow

+Sirobb Does it have that much affect on the boost? Doesn't the controll valve close at 1000rpm? - Pætur
@sirobb
@sirobb 7 жыл бұрын
+Pætur Dalheim Kristiansen Vacuum loss can have a huge effect on boost on a Euro 3 D5. The engine idles at 700 rpm so you could lose vacuum before the TCV closes and the turbo VNT mechanism will be in the wrong position so no little or no low rpm boost.
@michielvanlieshout2012
@michielvanlieshout2012 7 жыл бұрын
SiRobb So you will start of with a wrong position of the VNT? This wont be compensated for when the control valve closes above 1000rpm and the leak is thereby gone?

Hello sirobb, will you get more vibration for the engine if the vaccum (mounts) system is leaking? Got the same "popping" sound as you and a lot of vibration. Just changed the upper strut bar engine mount and the lower engine torque mount. Still alot of vibration.. Need help with this, but i want to fix it myself :) Driving a D5 v70 2003.

Hi SiRobb! I am trying to trace a vacuum leak in my D5 for about a 6 months now with no results. Seen many "specialists" so far and no signs of a cure or a proper diagnosis.The ABS light comes and brake assist/anti skid service required information on the dash up after accelerating to 40-50mph and the car makes a whining sound when above 1200 rev (louder when cold).I found that the ABS ring is snaped and the brake pedal positioning sensor is faulty (will fix myself).I have disconnected front engine mount as it was leaking slightly but the popping noise is still there. When I unplug the brake servo vacuum hose from the pump it stops but there is no signs of any leak around the brake pedal.I have replaced all the hose clips along that hoses and alu pipe.Could it leak from the o rings somewhere there? Just to mention there is a valve cover gasket leak (quite bad).Have been told it is a breather blocked.Clean it all up was all working fine.Removed the EGR valve as well and cleaned (was not blocked).I am running out of ideas.Please help if you have any suggestions.Thanks Jacob

Hi SiRobb brill vids as always very helpful but if i can pick your brains please ie i have just bought a really cheap complete engine mount kit from MaXpeedingrods for £102 inc del which look very good quality. BUT the vac mounts have no vac connectors and are solid mounts would it be ok to fit these and blank off the engine vac pipes as explained in your vid or will this lead to damage in the engine eventually? Chas.
@sirobb

It's entirely up to you but you won't get the engine damping as designed and will almost certainly have additional vibration so I can't say that it will definitely be ok.

Hello sir i do hope you will reply even tho this video was 8 years ago. I have the same noise and it goes away if i plug the hose but is this nececcary. Does it cause damage to the engine or turbo if i dont plug the hose since there is no noice when the oil cap is on. Or does it cause engine or turbo damage when it is leaking? thanks in advance
@sirobb
@sirobb 3 ай бұрын
It depends on the design. If you have a vacuum adjusted turbo, vacuum system loss will cause performance loss. If your turbo is operated by a motor, turbo performance will be unaffected. Vacuum loss in general needs fixing regardless though as it assists braking so do the job correctly whichever.

Does the xc90 not have electric turbo control?
@sirobb
@sirobb 3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the engine and what you mean by electric turbo control. Euro 3 D5 is a vacuum actuated VNT and the vacuum is controlled by the boost solenoid at the front of the engine. Euro 4 VNT is controlled by an electric servo.

@@thomasdeklerk5202 I repeat. If you suspect a vacuum leak, use a vacuum tester. You will see the leak immediately. The popping noise is a "fault" if performance, data and testing shows a fault.
