@@ReedMakeCar Will you return to a stock hood since theres more of a clearance with the new intake?
@thechiraltheory77123 күн бұрын
One thing you might be missing is that the reason motorcycle engines can run so close to the edge is because the motorcycle is so light that it puts very little load on the motor. For this reason, motorcycles are not prone to knock or detonation even when you do something like slap a turbo on it. In a 2000lb car you're definitely going to need be running it on alcohol and have God's gift tuning it.
@KaiTakApproach7 сағат бұрын
I have an NA Miata and they came from the factory with a tractor engine. I never put a turbo on it but I did spray hairspray into the intake once and it worked exactly like a potato gun. I sold my streetbike after I bought the Miata so I really enjoy your project car. I look at my Miata as a slow streetbike that is less hot to ride because I don't need to wear a helmet or leather jacket.

Loved every minute. Literally cannot wait to watch you drive this thing boosted.
@kalimera87643 күн бұрын
How much boost are you going to run? I suppose not much, because if the already high CR. Asking cause one thing people usually forget is (especially for high revving NA engines), valves are usually out of titanium and the springs are really soft. Adding boost can cause them to open. Then, if you add more or harder springs, can cause wear to the valves themselves. So the ideal solution is to change both valves and springs if the boost becomes much. BTW, since the compression might end very hign, anything to save the engine from knock? Alcohol or something?

You should really do an air to water set up to eliminate all that piping. Plus, I’ll look a lot cleaner and reduce turbo lag.
@ReedMakeCar3 күн бұрын
I considered that but air to air is so much more simple. No pump, hoses, multiple heat exchangers, more mounts, etc.
@anthonyantoine92323 күн бұрын
@@ReedMakeCarAir to air is plenty good for this project anyway. It's unlikely to be putting out a ton of heat, and unless you plan on going all out racing it, you're not losing out on much performance anyway.

Put a 40 dry shot on it w a window switch from 6-9k for the instant spool...thats just me thinking out load. I have ran a 75 shot on this motor ages w zero issues . Sik build my man . Water meth would be a good idea too..the load of the car and HC will increase cylinder temps a good deal more than if It was in a bike..the water will help soak up the heat.

Bikes are light, don’t require big torque numbers, but rev there arses off to make there Hp, Cars are much heavier, require torque to move the weight. You would have been better off, fitting built a 2 ltr turbo engine , or modifying and turbo charging your original engine. Then let’s talk about the clutch issue, turbo charge a bike and you quickly realise the clutch can’t handle the additional turbo torque. Now throw in the heavier weight of the car and turbo power, there is no hope in the world that bike clutch will handle it for very long if at all, I know this due to turbo charging a hyabusa , a gsxr1000r, , fzr1000 and a nitrous zx9r. To handle the power we had to spend big on the clutches, beyond just changing the springs and friction plates. Then when we fixed that weak link, we broke gear boxes, and we didn’t have to deal with a car weight 4 times more than the bike did! Good luck ! 😊

So with the gearing, did you need a super slow 1st gear to get the car moving on the street. It seemed to run out of gear on the top end. can you adjust the final drive sprockets or do you need that 1st gear where it is. It is going to run out of gear really fast now

This build is so exciting dude! Have you given anymore thought into that reverse gear? I've been wondering myself how you could accomplish it. I know at least some older Honda Goldwings use the starter motor, just running it in reverse, so I wonder if even rigging up a DC motor in line with the gearbox, or a similar setup could accomplish it!
