If you haven't it's highly recommended to ground the coils to the head not the ecu and NOT signal ground. I was in the same boat as you guy's except I used the premium harness, daunting! But made it happen. The only piggybacking I did though was tps and crank sensor, the factory ecu runs the trans, fuel pump, thermo fans and cluster etc. But I plan to run everything from the haltech down the track. I also tapped a thread into the thermo base housing and used a barra head temp sensor to run to the haltech so I could keep the factory au sensor. I didn't want to risk sharing that sensor as they can get grumpy sharing. Daves wiring vlog was a big help for me.
@HackshopGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yeah awesome, thanks for the tip mate, we did ground back to the ecu on the coils, so we might look at grounding them to the head instead. Is it just due to current draw on the ecu?
@JTECH77664 жыл бұрын
@@HackshopGarage correct. Anything that isn't sig ground you should ground to a star point (good solid ground point) or head. From my research ls1 coils should always be ground to cylinder head or you can have problems. Mainly they either won't fire or have weak spark.
@HackshopGarage4 жыл бұрын
Right ok, that’s really good to know. Thanks mate, much appreciated
@JTECH77664 жыл бұрын
@@HackshopGarage also I know the early e series has a temp sensor in the lower thermo housing, not sure if yours has that? If not you can use those housings for a second temp sensor to the haltech. Again just so you're not sharing that sensor and so you can retain the cluster gauge. Using the barra sensor in my case worked out well because the haltech has the calibration file for that sensor so it's very easy to setup.

@@HackshopGarage yes defenantly ground the coils to the head or block. I had the coil ground in the loom and I was getting bad spark blow out. Had me angry for weeks... haha

I agree with the removal of the butterflys. If they stopped working (like my old EL XR6 did) they can really screw things up (and just another potential vacuum leak)! When you add boost to the mix, depending on the spool threshold they become fairly irrelevant. If you are already in positive manifold pressure by 1800RPM they are fairly pointless. If you were looking for fuel efficiency then maybe they might have a point but I still wouldn't bother. A longer intake runner (when closed) will require more air volume to reach full boost, thus increase lag. While the added intake velocity they add may provide better off-boost torque (same as not going too big on exhaust diameter when N/A) to get the best response from a turbo, lower pressure is better. There is a reason why the small displacement turbo engines like the WRX with 2L have 3" exhaust systems. Or why the turbo Barra's have a less complex intake and why they run 4" exhausts. In short lower pressure and a shorter length is the best thing for a turbo car = Less lag more turbo response. You would have been better off getting a new manifold with short runs rather than the elaborate N/A style manifold. Or just make a basic log manifold with short runs at a reasonable size diameter.

Why pull the broad band butterflies out? With them in and switched by the haltech you will have better bottom end torque and quicker spool, when they're open they are not a restriction. Some people think that because the XR6T didn't have them then it must be better but in actual fact they were only left out as a cost cutting measure and in testing they did make more low end with the BBM functional.

Yeah we thought we would just try an idea we had heard, worst case we have another manifold to put them back in if need be

Brilliant guys 😊 isn't wiring just the most fun any car guy can have 😆 Shame the Haltech wouldn't run everything. I do like Haltech yet one thing that really bugs me is having to pay extra for wideband that other ECU's have natively as a 5v input. Anyhoo, onwards and upwards 😉

I see you have ignition coming from the haltech, and you said fuel pump is powered by the factory ecu, but what is powering the injectors? Or is that what you're talking about when you say you've still got to do the fuel system?
@HackshopGarage4 жыл бұрын
The fuel pump is powered triggered by the haltech also, just utilising the standard relay, and the injectors and also powered by the haltech too. We tapped into the standard wiring look for the injectors down by the standard ecu plug for the negative trigger and the positive turned on by the ignition or standard wiring loom
@michaelo76004 жыл бұрын
Oh yea, of course. That makes perfect sense now. I got a little confused when you were saying there's only 7 wires coming out through the firewall. But yes, I see you're tapping into stock loom
