What I find amazing is how you never get discouraged when a repair doesn't fix the problem. You just keep going until it's done.

I knew you would clean that little beast from the get go, I'm the same - I can't but help restoring something I've repaired, it's just not right letting something go back in that condition, the results that you get are can be amazing from what used to look like junk. Sir, you are a kind man & I bet Ramon will be over the moon.

And they are still called thingies because they make me laugh. Thanks man you really got me to fix a few machines over the years.

Great to see it working again! It's the same with the GameGear - not worth leaving an original SMD cap in place, just swap the lot. Never ceases to amaze me how many problems capacitors cause.

Thank you so much! I watched through a few videos and finally this one mentioned a similar problem to what I was experiencing with the I button. It would work fine but only after a minute or two of intermittent reactions to, I suppose, charge the aging capacitor. I took a giant leap with a soldering iron and went upon replacing it like you mentioned to have done however I used a non-polarizing capacitor, whatever the difference may be, and had to connect it sideways because it was taller that the stock but otherwise I'm nearly certain the problem is fixed, and more importantly caught before corrosion started eating away the board and traces. Again, thank you so much for mentioning that bit near the end. Edit: Nevermind, that didn't fix the problem at all, I just got lucky for a few times turning it back on.

Hey Luke, I just purchased a turbografx express last night. It works but the guy told me it needed to be recapped. Sound and video work, but sound is really low and video quality is not great! I'm not the most electronically inclined individual. I'll probably give it a shot with the help of this video. If I did need some assistance with a repair, would I be able to send you my turbografx express like this individual did for a repair? (Obviously I would pay :D). Thanks for the help, your videos are awesome!!!

The screen on the Express/GT sure is very pretty. The Game Boy and Game Gear had nothing on this machine. Too bad it never caught on here in Europe. I never even heard of the Turbografx16/PcEngine until I watched some of your first vids. And that was years ago now. I grew up with the NES and Master System, good to know there is plenty more of retro games out there to experience.

I really appreciate your repair videos. But sometimes I think you blend out the real interesting part, i.e. _how_ to technically resolder those joints, unsolder and resolder caps etc. ... in this video you show how you resolder joints, i.e. very fine tip, using flux etc. ... would be really intersting to see more of you working... i.e. soldering etc.

There are a lot of older vids where he does soldering on camera. Seems to be down to lots of practice, it never goes that easily when I try it!

Hey Luke! Love these videos as always. I've been trying to fix up an old salvaged SNES myself after being inspired by your vids--this thing was in reeeeally rough shape. I'm talking trace damage, the APU being yanked out, case wrecked. I did a whole bunch of work on it to get it powering on again including a full cap replacement, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why it now no longer will read games. Could I possibly contact you further re: this to see if you may be able to shed some light on this for me? I'm at my wit's end with this D: you rock.

Hey Great job Luke, Ive changed all the caps, except those under the shield, my video was back for bit and its gone again, you thinl i sould go further under the shield ?
@zborgerd10 жыл бұрын
My experience with the GT/Express is that every single electrolytic inside must be replaced. I've found extensive trace damage in these due to leaky electrolyte, especially in the audio circuits.

@wesmaximus77287 жыл бұрын
Yes, Batteries are very important with these, Here I thought my screen was just dead the past few years, I didn't use the batteries too much but most likely low quality. Had sound but no picture.I decided to check how it would be with a proper power supply. had an extra universal one here. tried it on 6 volts, the same thing. sound only tried it on 7.5V. Hell Yeah! I know it requires 7V so ill look for a proper one, but I wouldn't use it too often with the 7.5V. My Turbo Duo works fine with the same Adapter at 9V. More often it's the mA that's important

Hey I've got an express that worked the last time I've played it years ago but now I tried it doesn't boat any games. Screen turns on but displays nothing and no audio too. Any ideas? Same as the screen as this one in the video but just wondering if anything else by any chance.
@CronoWiiUxblCrono6 жыл бұрын
Hello. My Turbo Express has a burning smell coming from it. The games turn on it for just a moment and then it goes off. Also, the sound isn't working. I've had the system in storage for the past 18 years. Do you know what's causing this to happen?
@bgirardin016 жыл бұрын

Hi, I was wondering if you could have a quick look at my last PC Engine video, it's only short and maybe you'll be able to come up with some answers for the behavior it's displaying, I always get around 1 hour and 40 minutes perfect gameplay then the screen either freezes, glitches or go's from green to black or just straight to black, the Caps and screen are new, is it as simple as the batteries are just dead? As on DURACELL batteries I get over 4 hours maybe even 7 if the volume isn't on high, the sound is also perfect, it's very loud on full volume. Thanks in advance if you spot a possible reason.
