Turbo IS300 Dyno - Tire Smoke, Flames, and POWER!

Күн бұрын

After being under the knife for a few months, I finally get the Turbo IS300 back on the dyno to get it dialed in with the new setup! Some of the latest changes include:
• EFR 9280 turbo
• RMR 90mm throttle body
• 3" intercooler piping
• 4.5" intake (with larger filter)
• 3.5" turbo-back exhaust
This dyno (DynoJet) is a different one than I am used to using, so it's hard to compare these figures with those from the dyno seen in previous videos (Mustang 1100SE). Ultimately I would like to get the car back on the Mustang dyno in the future so I can get a better idea of what kind of difference this last round of modifications made.
That being said, the dyno session went VERY well and I didn't have any issues with the car (aside from the struggle to maintain traction). I am extremely pleased with the results and excited to enjoy the car again!
Thanks for watching!

Great point at the beginning of this video on the usefulness in having multiple dyno runs done on the same machine, same settings, and if possible similar conditions. One of the things we ALWAYS try to do is if you start a project on one setup, ALWAYS stick to it for future testing. You are 100% correct in that you have no simple way to compare upgrades/repairs/maintenance otherwise! Just found your channel the other day, really glad to see someone else out here repping a quality IS300 turbo build! Keep it up!

I'm on VP C85. Like I talked about in the beginning of the video, trying to compare dyno figures from different facilities is completely meaningless in my opinion. There are so many variables that can affect the number that a dyno spits out (including the dyno software setup that can be easily modified to make it spit out whatever numbers you want). Traction was definitely a struggle but I managed to get it to hook up pretty well. Thanks for watching!

@@twojay agh I see. I ask because my valves seem to be making noise I've rebuilt my block twice now the first time we made a stupid mistake and did not check the clearances on the mains and the number 1 main must have warped from a previous owner and was so off and just odd shaped so the number 1 rod was knocking. All the bearing were extremely worn after just 200 miles on the vehicle. This new noise doesnt sound like the rock knock from before so sounds like it's in the head. Valve lash were all into spec so I'm not sure what it could be. Since I'm going turbo though I'd like to build the head. Probably the only thing still with the original parts.

I have been around the diesel tuning industry for many years so I have a pretty good understanding of engine control systems in general which helps a lot. The car was also originally tuned by a great tuner that was very helpful and willing to share some of his knowledge with me along the way.

I have a I S 300 as well how much would it cost to do a turbo build? I have a 10 K budget

It depends on your goals, the parts you use, the labor you can do yourself, and a ton of other factors. Just finding a reliable transmission/clutch solution can be one of the most expensive parts of the build. 10k should be a good start though, good luck!

Do you expect people to believe you got 600hp from a 3 liter on 12pai??! Dude... check your Dyno. Were you in second gear or something? Lmao. Please.
@twojay

You seem a little upset. I'm guessing it's probably because it took 20+ PSI with the little turbos on your 335i to make similar power. You understand that boost is just a sign of restriction right? This is a 73mm compressor capable of flowing 110 lbs/min of air. The engine is fully built with aggressive camshafts and runs strictly on VP C85 race fuel. Does a DynoJet read higher than some other dynos? Absolutely (as mentioned in the beginning of the video). Regardless, I clearly display the entire dyno graph which includes all atmospheric data and the current correction factor (although I guess I can't expect you to understand any of that based on your comment). Anyway, I suggest you do a little more research before you come spouting nonsense on someone else's channel, otherwise you might end up looking stupid.

Also, the fact that you seem to think a lower gear will yield better results on a dyno just reinforces how little you know about this stuff. Thanks for the laugh!

@@twojay yup, got a 9280 with a 1.45 hot side (RX7 FD). By way of comparison, the 2 rotor, which is only 1.3 liters makes 600rwhp at 18psi with this turbo. Everyone knows that rotary engines only average 7.5hp per lb of air vs 10hp per lb on a piston engine. The 9280 can flow 110lbs, so at 12 psi it's going to make great power. Btw, speed sensor territory on this turbo is in the 38+psi range. You weren't near max.
@twojay
@twojay 3 жыл бұрын
@@94fdjk31 Cool, thanks for the info. Turbo speed isn't dictated solely by boost pressure. There are many other factors at play including engine displacement, engine speed, volumetric efficiency, altitude and other ambient conditions just to name a few. I have a friend that has a wheel speed sensor installed on his 3.0L 2JZ (9280) and at 31-32 PSI / 8000 RPM it's already at the maximum recommended speed for this unit which I believe is 117k RPM.
