Not to mention all professional drag car use pushrod engines, and the fastest production car in the world uses a pushrod engine, the Aero SSC. I believe it develops somewhere around 1180hp.

Sorry, how is a aluminum DOHC 4.6 heavier than a cast iron 302? I musta missed that one. The aluminum modulars are about 430-460 depending on who you ask, what is on them. 302s are generally 450-460lbs. The extra weight in the mod is all in the thick skits which allows for 6-bolt cross-bolted mains. And to answer your question: no rod flex or valve float.

@413murdermass ford is bringing the 5.0 back with a DOHC design. this 5.0 was a push rod style motor. its a 4.6 dohc with a little more cubic inches.

I'm of the opinion that unless you're building an engine to rev to 9,000 rpm, overhead cams are just dead weight in a V-block engine. I still don't understand modular fans: The 4.6 is a larger, heavier engine than the 302, but it has smaller internal displacement. And only a 3.5 inch bore? Better off to build a Chevy 305.

My sources show the dressed engine weight of an aluminum ("alluminum" is a common typo - deal with it) 4.6 DOHC is 521 pounds. The dressed engine weight of an IRON BLOCK 351 Windsor is only 510 pounds. Just google "Dressed engine weight," you'll get entire charts.

The red car is running open down pipe so the spool was way loud and has a T76 Hellion kit. The camera car has a T66 custom kit.

check out mmr you would be surprised my friend what a 4.6 is capable of. i have seen with my own eyes a 4.6 2v based block with a 76mm turbo hit low 9's. there are outlaw mustangs that run the DOHC 4.6 4v that make over 2,300rwhp, hellion powersystems 04 cobra made 1,111rwhp with twin turbo's and the stock supercharger on the stock motor and irs. 5.0 is the way to go all motor. 4.6 is the way to go for power adders

Central Florida Street Cars pushrod hemis are capable of 10,000+ HP definitely not stock of course but there is a reason they’re the engine of choice in top fuel dragsters and funny cars. But i agree that the 4.6s are very underrated when it comes to street cars. Especially the 2v

With overhead cams it’s possible to rotate faster than an OHV, which produces higher end torque than a pushrod. Pushrods make very good low end torque but can’t quite rev as high

I prefer pushrods over anything...yes you can have valve float with OHCs But rev limiters prevent that...plus Nascar And NHRA still believe in the pushrods...they are cheaper to build paying $200.oo for one cam is better than paying $500 to $1000 for two or four...Pushrods all the way!!

unmoveable object hits by and unmoveable force. The 5.0 sounds better, alot more of low end tourge, and theres alot more potential with the iron block. But the 4.6 is smoother and runs better at higher RPMS it comparing apples and oranges. No suprise that they came to an tie

I've never seen a street modular with more than 900 horsepower, but that's not to say 1200 hp versions don't exist. Even so, that power in a streetable forced induction V8 is nothing new. Besides, the torque curve on a stock 4.6/5.4 is peaky enough, I can't imagine how bad it must be at that power level. I doubt that a 5.4, with its larger rods and crank and taller deck height, is the same weight as a 4.6. There's probably not a significant difference, but I'm fairly certain a 5.4 is heavier.

I'd give a fuck about the displacement if the aluminum 4.6 and 5.0 didn't hold up to 1200hp; but they do. Anyway the 330ci (5.4) aluminum block is the same weight, just taller deck.

More alluminum blocks than iron blocks? Didn't think so. My point stands. As far as ordering new blocks...try comparing the weight of an alluminum 4.6 to the weight of an alluminum high-cube Windsor. Face it...your engine is a boat anchor. It may make some power (only if you go with forced induction, sadly), but that's only proof that a turd will glisten slightly if you polish it enough.

I'm saying displacement is not a hinderance, since the MODs are super fucking tough. I think the 5.4 weight is for the GT supercar so may be have something to do with it being dry sump. lol "peaky"....

I love it when people I'm arguing with resort to childish ad-hominems. Why would you do something so silly that unless you feel your worldview is changing? Hear that sound? That's you LOSING. I'd be interested to see where you're pulling these weights from. You didn't say if these were dressed weights, long blocks, short blocks, or just cylinder blocks. Given your apparent education on the subject, I wouldn't be surprised if you don't know the difference.

And how many alluminum 4.6s are there? Seriously? If you're going to compare the top dog modular, you might as well compare it to a top dog Windsor, instead of a factory 302. Most 4.6s are iron blocks...And an iron block 4.6 DOHC weighs in at a massive 680 pounds fully dressed. That's the exact same dressed weight as the alluminum headed Boss 429 from 1969/1970! As for rod flex and valve float...you know, that red line exists on your tachometer for a reason.

You're still going on with this "power assembly" crap, so I'm going to assume you're referring to cylinder blocks, with no crank, rods or pistons. Frankly, I couldn't give less of a damn what the cylinder block or even the short block weighs. The dressed weight is all that's important. My current research shows an iron 351 long block to weight 530 pounds...Okay, so I was wrong on that one. Too bad a 4.6 alluminum long block is only 9 pounds lighter, with smaller internal displacement.
