Right on. I was a little leary of how big the Z06 is for a sports car before I bought it and comming from an MR2 and a X1/9, the pop ups look like they are a mile away. But on the track, the car is balanced and does not feel clumbsy at all. It has next to zero body roll, quick reactions, and only wieghs 3150 lbs. I'm sure you will be happy with it. Everyone is. I'd own a bimmer too, if I could afford it.

actually they make twin turbo kits for them.....but you dont put the turbos under the hood....you put them at the very back behind the back axle and run the piping down the side of the car...works pretty well

No, I had the car dyno tuned by Xtreme motorsports in Phoenix to get the full potential from the exhaust and remove the cat and AIR pump system checks and codes from the ECM.

vette owner here, nice vid dude!! mad respect for imports (i also got 2 of those, german tho) but seriously, i love when people say american cars dont handle well. vettes can handle insane, especially when the driver actually knows how to drive. american car guys need to stop hating and turbo your vettes!!!! fast is the shit - peace

Yep, that's the way to go and exactly what I would do if I was building a track car. But if it's just a track car and you are going to do H/C and full suspension anyway, you could save some money by buying an FRC instead. The only difference left after H/C and suspension is trans gearing and the FRC can be had as cheap as $16k for a respectable example. Just something else to consider.

That's funny, they managed to engineer a car that's faster on the race track or drag strip than any Japanese car ever sold in America for only $48,500. That single cam design is simply smart. Cheaper to manufacture, lighter, and smaller than a comparable DOHC design. And still puts out 100 more HP than any production Honda ever sold.

Yes, the S2000 would be better on very tight switchbacks because the Z06 is a big car. But open the road just a little and the Z06's grip, brakes, and torque make it an awesome canyon carver. That's tons of fun, but the only place where you can push the limits of a car without the chance on dying by making a slight mistake it the road course.

"when you say a car faster than yours production wise do you mean in a straight line, road course or what?" I mean drag strip because it's the easy, quantitative and fair way to measure "fast." And I am going by published magazine times for factory stock cars. As for road course, look up the Nurburgring times. NSX-R ties the C5Z06 at 7:56. All other Japanese production cars are slower. But driver, track conditions, etc, etc all play a part so that only gives you a general idea.

@miketothesupra I'm aware of that. The 31 for the RSX is ALSO freeway mpg. Kinda sad. I've driven the old LS1 6 speeds in all three models (TA, Z28 and C5 Corvette) and they turn over at around 1.6k RPM on the freeway at 70 mph. Torque is awesome.

@Varinafootball Sure i'd attest to that but everyone cant afford a Vette...so the next best thing is something small and build it. I always get RSX Type Ss roaring theyre VTEC at me because they dont know im packing a K20 of my own. Its treat to smoke em. U really have to build up a 4 banger to keep up with a stock Vette

That's hilarious because every single video where the domestic wins there are hordes of ricers who say, "That driver sucks" or "put a turbo on it" or "Your motor is way bigger" or "that car costs way more" You know it's true. Nobody has more excuses than ricers. That's alright, they need them the most.

I drive an Acura everyday to work. Its great on gas and still pretty quick. BUT! On the weekends, when the weather is good. I whip out the Vette, and get all the chicks wet!

That's the car I was going to mention as far as perormance goes and its playing with about 210 less HP and just as much less torque. Little bit less weight as well and MR engine chassis setup. In terms of cars of the same caliber as the 2001+ Z06 I don't have much to offer, only super cars Japanese companies came out with were the Supra, NSX, and 300ZX, we didn't receive the Skyline which still isn't faster in a straight line than a Z06.

well muscle cars use turbochargers also. check out Chris Chow' regal gnx that does like 7 seconds. No Replacement for Displacement right?

But it turned out to be in great condition, very well taken care of, and with a perfectly clean history. It was cheap because it had 99k miles on it and I cought it the first day it was for sale private party before anyone else. Corvette owners liars? Compared to Honda fans? Please.

"everything on the car except the engine was cheaply made." The Tremec T56 is the same as used in the Viper, DB7, and V12 Vanquish. The stock wheels are forged Alcoas. The tires were designed by Goodyear for the Z06 and they were also used on the Ford GT. The cat-back is made of Titanium. The stereo is BOSE. The frame was hydroformed, not bent. And the Z06 went through 100 continuous hours of track abuse in testing to make sure it was track ready before it was sold to the public.

It would take a ton of money and time to make the power to weight ratio the same on the vette. The imports like the rsx-s have a lot of potential and are way way way cheaper than a vette.

I agree 100% with this guy.I have a 300whp fwd eagle talon and its a bitch with traction.Its fun as hell on the highway from 45 and up, but from a launch...forget about it.I only went with this car cause i got it dirt cheap off ebay and it was a southern car.Dont get me wrong I love it and its a great dd.But real, stupid fast performance cars are not fwd.Rwd or awd for performance, fwd for dd.

@jthaoz What is an, "old" Corvette? The one in the video is a 400hp C5 Z06. That's 2001 - 2004. And you can buy them all day long for under $20,000. Like I said, there are 46 of them on AutoTrader right now. Many with low mileage. If you are only looking at the 500hp C6Z06, then you should know that 500hp Z06 would kick the shit out of the turbo RSX in this video.

I am an RSX-S owner and if i had 50k to spend on a car I would buy a 1965 Corvette Stingray fastback coupe. I would buy a clunker that I could spend the rest of the 40k in the build. But thats just my style. To me that would make me happier than taking 50 grand and buying a 10k RSX and putting the 40k in a sleaved, stroked, cammed, ginormous turboed motor with a built tranny, differential, and suspension.... I can turn around and sell my corvette for twice what i put in it.

the higher a piston motor goes the more harmoics it produces and will cause them to weaken try typing directfreak in the search and see

Ppl who argue about imports needing to be modified to beat Corvettes etc need 2 realize corvettes are actually modified but just they come modified from the factory...That's why they are so expensive..whereas imports are much cheaper, and are very reliable..and with their light weight as an advantage..mod them a bit and see what happens..they are just as fast if not faster than American cars.For a fraction of a factory American car and are reliable and easy 2 maintain and has great gas mileage !

@kevo1586 Oh, I wholeheartedly agree. I had a Chevy Beretta GTZ, my first car. Worked the heck out of that motor, got 218 whp out of it NA before someone cut my radiator hose and the head blew. I'm not saying I don't love modifying cars, but every time someone posts a "Honda Civic beats Bugatti Veyron" video, I think to myself- one guy drives home every night in a Honda, the other in a Bugatti. There's a big difference no matter how you look at it. Oooh to be rich :)

According to Wikipedia the 05-06 rsx was later corrected to 201hp - not 210hp. They never made an '07.

I just have CAI/headers/X-pipe/tune/HAWK HP pads and lowered on stock bolts. (ride hieght can be adjusted with hand tools) The car you drove might also have had Z51 suspension which I heard is hard. Find a Z06 to test drive. It will never ride like an M5, but my car is not punshing at all unless the the road is really bad.

The never ending battle of imports and domestics. First off, the Corvette is NOT a shitty car. If you managed to pick it up second hand, you could get it for 20k. It can handle really well and have plenty of low end torque combined with high end power, it's a monster! Rsx is Honda's engineering marvel. Only a mere 2 liters pushing 200+ hp. Amazing anyway you look at it and when loaded into a light chasis, it's expected to fly! Now both cars modded.. I'll let you guys get back to your arguing

Yeah, I'm sure the current concept "Supra" or whatever they are going to badge it, LS-F, will be much more capable in terms of motor and chassis. :) Supposed to be over 500hp V10 and a midship layout. Just the pedigree alone sounds like it should give a Vette a run for it's money. And I mean the new 7.0 Vette :)

Sure, you can put a turbo on it and go fast in a straight line, but it will never have the ability and dynamics of a real sports car. sports car > FWD compact

@Reezymoney my bro spent 7,500 for his turbo kit. w tune and everything else. maybe 8k. bought his fg2 for 19k with 0 miles. making 420 but boosting 15LBS next year. maybe 550 and 310 tq. hopefully race a corvette soon. cheaper and faster! but won't last long. someday the engine will go out.

So whats that elite mod where a wire runs from the the bottom of the fender up to your window... Thats sick. Vette has more potential in the end...all I will say.

so your saying that a zr1 isnt just a supercharged corvette with a better suspension? because its the exact same thing as a z06, just better suspension, and supercharged. that kinda points to modified from the factory... im just saying.

@TheMugenboy By your definition, every car is "modified". The reason they're more expensive is because there's more work that goes into their design and production. A 6.2L V8 that makes over 400 ft/lbs of torque is going to be quite costly to begin with, but building a transmission that can reliably HANDLE that torque is another thing. The fact is, the Corvette is the pinnacle of cheap speed. Oh, and the RSX-S got 31 MPG, the Corvette gets 26. 5 mpg tradeoff for 230 more hp? I'll take it.

are you assuming $30,000 as used? rsx is 18,000 brand new, z06 is over 50g new. oh and the whole value depreciation is actually the opposite of what you have said. but i would take the vette anyday.

Re-read the slalom and figure 8 times I posted below. A figure 8 and a 200ft skidpad circle ARE small tight, low speed turns. It's not my fault they put whimpy tires on the S2000. "lightly modded sduce will smoke a z06.straights" Only if lightly modded includes a turbo will it win on the straights. I like the S2000, I only objected to being told it handled better than my car, which it doesn't. BTW, what is "the touge?"

"the damn check engine light is on so quickly" I don't know where you got that from. I have only had a light after my header install because of the lack of rear O2s. After tune, never had another light. "they burn a quart of oil after 1000 miles" 15% of '01s had this issue and GM would re-ring the cars for free. My car is one of the 85% that has no oil burning issue.

@aTuWitty the difference is, I can afford to turbocharge an RSX and be comparable to the speed of a corvette Z06, but I cannot afford a Z06. Turboing an import provides people with a fast car who aren't able to spend $50k-100k on a car. It may not be as good as a Z06 in every aspect, but it is great bang for the buck. Give respect where it's due.

"the speaker grills rattle" Yup, the BOSE emblem does this and requires a dot of superglue or removal. "climat control console becomes so dim u cant even read it" Happens sometimes. My car has not had this problem.

Don't worry, the Z06 driver DEFINITELY spent his money more wisely. $24,000= $5,000 for the RSX, you say? That's $29,000 - resale value of $17,000 (Kelly Blue Book) (mods add zero to value)= $12,000 loss. Z06 bought used= $25,000- resale calue of $25,000 = zero.

Are you kidding me, Acura built the Rsx so perfectly well I'm not one bit surprised it beat the c5 z06... I'm 18 and have an 06' Rsx-S and am saving up for a turbo, trust me when i say those cars they have balls they got balls.

@outlawjoker101 u can spend maybe 3 grand for a cheap turbo kit. boost it to 15lbs. smoke the corvette. after smoking it. you have problems. lol. or buy a 7k turbo kit. install it. have a good tuner. boost 15 lbs. smoke the corvette and no problems yet. until maybe another 150 times of beatting the shit out of it.

I always like the way it looks the V8 owner's face when his ass is kicked by a smaller engine but a turbo K20a struggling to win a race with a stock corvette? that doesn't surprise me at all, that K20a has a lot more potential. Use it, and then post the vid.

Since most of you have no clue about cars, I'll give you some facts. That Z06 has 405hp, runs the 1/4 in 12.5 and costs about $25k to buy used today. And it will desroy that RSX on a roadcourse. FACTS kiddies.

Unfortunately, on-line it only rates them in pionts out of 30 instead of the actual measured numbers but here it is: Slalom: C6=28.5 S2000=28.3 Skidpad: C6=28.5 S2000=26.5 Braking 80-0 C6=28.5 S2000=26.8 And it is widely known that the C5Z06 out handles the base C6.

That Z06 in the video will lap balls out all day long at the race track while if you try that with that RSX, it will be overheating the engine, trans, and brakes quickly if it doesn't just plain break something. The Corvette is far more durable. You can't run a turbo Honda like you can a Z06.

"c5 and c6 all wheel hop even when you dont launch hard" First off, it's not a drag car. Second, I had a wheel hop problem until I learned how to drive it properly. On reading launch technique by Ranger, I can now launch with no wheel hop after ZERO suspension mods.

@lewk937 i agree; when they lose they make excuse. but when the imports lose. they say "man, if i had turbo i'll woop you all day" or i am only a 4 cylinder making 200 hp. and your like 500 hp. so yeah. but yeah yeah. rsx type s with 500 hp SHOULD..i said SHOULD not...WILL. but SHOULD smoke a corvette. because the weight ratio!. it just need traction now and a pro driver.

And why is your name K20Z1 when you have an 02-04, did you blow the original motor. What engine management are you running? Exhaust? Internals?

Pretty much identical performance for about 1/2 price and soo much more power soo easily. I don't have a problem with that. It's true! I have no silly brand or domestic loyalty or pride to protect. I just bash those who do with the facts.

"so what it has something made from alcoa?" The stock wheels were FORGED Alcoas. STOCK and FORGED rarely go together. And they are light enough that only the super high dollar aftermarket wheels are lighter.

2. And if you're worried about mileage, the Z06 is rated at 28 mpg on the highway. The RSX is rated at 31 mpg highway, and that's without the drop in mileage the turbo will cause. Huh, crazy. Also, a Japanese made RSX will depreciate to nearly half its value in 4 years, while the Corvette has one of the lowest depreciation rates of any car on the road.

Wow all the Chevy guys are coming out in force over this one. Cmon if you were cruising in a C5 Z06 and an RSX pulled up next to you, you would think their is no way in hell that this "lil fake car" or whatever the hell you people say is going to beat ma Corvette.

@01Z06guy oh really; damn. cool cool. i rather get a corvette than a RSX. RSX are still up to 16k. i don't like old corvettes though. i like the newer ones. old ones are not that great.

according to Wikipedia the 06 had 201 hp not the 05... i have an 05 type s and it says it has 210 hp.....Wikipedia "The engine intake and exhaust modifications that boost the power of the Type-S models to 210 hp (157 kW) at 7800 rpm (revised to 201 hp (150 kW) in 2006), compared to 200 hp (150 kW) at 7400 rpm on the previous model."
