My mechanic said the relearn was just a matter turning on the key wait 90 sec turn off start drive no computer needed

My truck is showing the same message - engine power reduced. During the turbo vane relearn, what needs to be done beforehand? My truck has been tuned for 2 years with the code showing up , but has always seemed to be running fine.
