You need to clock the center of the turbo so that the oil drain is straight down. The way it is currently, oil is sitting inside the turbo and passing through intake and exhaust seals. Hence the amount of smoke. Adjust the wastegate so that it’s always open until you get it running right with the way the piping is setup. Then slowly adjust the wastegate 1lb at a time until you reach the desired psi. I’d hate for it to happen but a bent rod is in the very near future otherwise. Looking forward to future videos.

Also this may help or may not as far as gaskets. Kinda surprised you didn't already know this. It's fairly easy to make a gasket. My uncle showed me many years ago before he passed away how to make them. I didn't have a gasket and couldn't get one at the local auto parts store. He grabbed an old 12 pack Mt Dew box and grabbed my thermostat housing and a ball peen hammer. He put the housing in a vice placed the box over the housing unit the way he wanted and started tapping on the box laid over the housing. He tapped and tapped all the way around it on the edges until the edges of the housing had completely cut a gasket out perfectly. Didn't have to do any trimming or anything, it worked perfectly.

One thing I’ve not seen people mention is you really need a fuel pressure regulator that runs at default around 3psi and goes up in pressure at a 1:1 ratio so for example for every 1psi of boost pressure you’re getting 1psi extra fuel pressure, not to mention you need a good flowing electric fuel pump that makes at minimum more pressure than the turbo ever could, your fuel pump could make up to 80psi for example but the fuel pressure reg would limit the pressure to boost pressure +3psi so let’s say you get on boost and you make 14psi of boost the fuel pressure reg would have you running about 17psi of fuel pressure to the float bowl and as you come off boost it would drop back down to 3psi, I hope this helps! 🙌
@Dm-cr5lk
@Dm-cr5lk 3 жыл бұрын
Think the fuel boost regulator only works on fuel injected systems with a return style system. That’s how it is on my mustang supercharged. It cuts off the return and spikes the pressure to add fuel instead of bigger injectors.. don’t think work on carb
@KrustyQuad
@KrustyQuad 3 жыл бұрын
This is exactly what he needs and the only way to do it ( that I know of at least).. with the fpr setup there is also a return line so fuel is constantly flowing in a loop... this is also why he won't need to increase the jet size by much if any at all, makes tuning and dialing in the setup much easier

@@KrustyQuad Yeah the only reason I know this is as a child when living back home we had a Renault 5 GT Turbo which used a carb and had the same return style system as does my current side by side project, it’s uses the stock setup from the donor bike which was a Yamaha XJ650 Seca turbo which again uses that same style system, if the manufacturer’s are using it then it has to be the best way! 👍

I love that your giving it a go but there are a few things to change. The oil lines need to be as short as you can get them. If the drain goes up you need a scavenger pump to send it back to the tank. The turbo needs to be clocked to in at the top and out at the bottom. You need a flair on the boost pipes otherwise under full boost they will keep popping off. I hope this helps you and I can’t wait to see it running properly 👍

Also the turbo oil outlet should be on the bottom, that will keep it from going into the impeller and smoking like it was. Hay man, the oil drain needs to be pointed down so gravity can pull it out of the turbo. That's probably why it's smoking so bad, and the return line to the oil tank needs to be going down hill as much as possible to help it flow back into the tank. If the oil drain isn't pointed down it might destroy the seals inside the turbo.

hey @2vintage, small tip tho, if you using the blow through system you need a pressure regulator for your gas pressure and the gas pressure needs to be .3 to .4 bars higher than the boost, if not then your boost is pressing your fuel back and thats whats happening to your engine right now. you can try to make a box where the carb sits in but it needs to be absolutly sealed to the outside otherwise it will not work. some old v8 classic cars use that system since the mid 80s and a lot of old men tuners know a lot of this, so maybe if you cant get it to work ask one in a forum or something. oh and another thing tho, as someone mentioned before me, your turbo needs to be turned around so your oil drain is pointing DOWN otherwise your engine oil will be pressed into the intake and a bent conrod will happen in the near future. greetings from germany keep the content coming bro :)

Single cylinder engines have to have a chamber for it to actually make boost. Needs to be 3-4x the cc of the engine. Ie 1200-1600cc chamber. It gives the turbo a chance to spool and then gives you a larger volume of air.

I know someone else mentioned this, but for making your own gaskets, use a ball-peen hammer, lay the gasket over the flange, and tap the flange with the ball-peen hammer to cut the features you need. I know your setup is temporary, but I'm concerned about the rubber boots on your exhaust melting off. I'd definitely looking into bigger gapped rings, heavier valve springs, thicker head gasket, and activating the wastegate at a low pressure so it doesn't over-boost. Also, I've heard the compressed air chamber needs to be 4.4X the engine displacement located between the turbo and throttle plate to see any benefit on single cylinder engines. Good luck, hope you figure it out!

but with fuel injection it can be done from anyone no matter if he knows what hes doing, but with a carb there are not many ppl who can make it work he just needs a little bit more mods to get it to work properly. also a lot of the old us car tuners use this method since the mid 80s for old v8 classic cars and it works fine you just need to know what youre doing thats all, i think if he figures that out he will get it to work tho :)

You've got to clock the center section of the turbo so the oil return is pointed straight down. IE - you have to turn the turbo's center 90deg and reclock the intake and exhaust housings. You will have major oil leakage out of the turbo unless you do. 20deg from vertical is the most you can go to avoid oil going out the exhaust housing. Again, you can message me for help with this.

I would put the carb on the intake of the turbo, so the carb doesn't have to be pressurized or sealed.Think it's called a draw though turbo setup, that way gas can be metred by how much air is being drawn though and not blown though. Seen them done this way on alot of other bikes

May also have to add an electric oil pump to help with the oil flow

Nice work but be careful welding galvanized! My understanding one minute of welding galvanized is equivalent to 10 years of smoking damage to your lungs! I'm enjoying watching! Learning a lot!

You are most likely needing a different carb- on cars, you have to have the carb changed to a blow through type- pressure is introduced into the venturi and float bowl. Another thing too- you may need a fuel pump or pulse pump to help with fuel delivery anything over 4 psi fuel pressure will flood pass the needle. I did not read all the other comments but awesome on the creativity! You can use a cereal box or head to auto parts and buy a role of gasket paper. NICE BUILD THOUGH!

You want your fuel pressure about 3 times higher than your maximum fuel pressure. A 5 to 10 psi fuel pump and a boost referenceing fuel pressure regulator is what is normally used.

I think usually the turbo oil drain uses gravity on the outlet side but you have it going sideways. I think of you start getting oil in the exhaust it might need pump to suck the oil back to the tank. I hope it works for you. Keep searching I'll bet a bunch of people was successful. They do it on street bikes

The turbo drain port need to be on the bottom of the turbo I believe that will help with the smoking issues the oil pump can't push the oil up hill so I believe its pushing oil past the seals
