I have a mesh from CFX, when opened in ICEM the mesh only includes shell elements. So there is no curves or surfaces in it. How can I split shell elements to create another domain? For example I have a blade with long inlet. How can I split in 1- Inlet domain + 2- Blade domain? Thanks for the help

After defining periodic boundary conditions, while selecting vertices ,vertex points are moving away from actual position. And periodic vertices are forming somewhere out of the geometry. Can anyone please help me with that .

Thanks a lot. I just followed your answers from CFD online. Would you please make some tutorials about Standard NACA0012? I really would like to know how to make proper blocking around it and how to improve the mesh quality. As the mesh quality may drop dramatically with inflation, how would you solve the problem? Thanks a lot. Kind regards.

you talking about hexa mesh or prism mesh ???

turbo engineer Hi, thank you for your reply. I am just working on a 2D case now. For the future, I will try a 3D hexa mesh. I followed some tutorials for airfoil mesh. However, those cases are roughly simple. I think I know the basic things about meshing. But how can I improve the mesh quality mesh to have better convergence and accuracy performance? I would like to know how you, as an expert, think and solve the simple NACA airfoils. What would you think is the "best" way? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the this informative tutorial. I have a question . Why do we have to edit edge and make the edge same shape as the curve? If we just associate edge to curve and project vertices, I think the mesh which you would get will have edges following the shape of the curve? Where is the need to edit edge? Thank you again for this tutorial.

normally we dont need to edit edge. but if two edges are in vicinity of the two curves, icem cfd often get confused and it project wrong edge to wrong curve. Thats why we need to do this.

Okay. My next question is that when you do "Split Edge", why does the edge take the shape of the curve (aerofoil)? As far as I know, I may be wrong, is that when you split edge, the edge should just split like a spline? How come it takes the shape of the curve? Is it because of the association? Please explain.

I have followed the procedure exactly as shown. Yet I'm only able to get a surface mesh while recomputing the premesh. Do you have the slightest idea where I might have gone wrong?

When you associate edges with curves, how do you get ICEM to show the edge on top of the curve? My edges stay as straight lines and it makes it confusing to associate because there are so many lines.

Bhai I Have a very important doubt how would you define periodicity when you are meshing for Both Rotor and Stator separately since the number of blades for rotor and stator will be different. And hence the angles will be different. I Guess we should do it separately and import it in Fluent, Is it so? Or is there any method you know for it. Thank You
@CFD_Mechanic
@CFD_Mechanic 10 жыл бұрын
Yes, we do them separately and combine them in Fluent or CFX
