"7 out of 10" isn't really accurate, because that implies there are some actual technical problems with it. No actual negative critiques were given in this review. So it gets a “C” rating because - what, it’s too old school??? A product being "NICHE" is NOT a legitimate hit against it. How "mainstream friendly" a console is should not impact the score. REGARDLESS of how many people the system may appeal to, if it's well constructed (yes), works properly (yes), has a solid UI (yes), and has a solid roster of games (hell yes), it should get a 9/10 or 10/10. Because anyone into this -- TG16 fans or any fans of retro-style gaming -- would absolutely love this.

Growing up the TurboGrafx was the only console I had access to, so this fills me with so much nostalgia. Unfortunately some of my all time favorites aren’t included. Like Ninja Sprit and Cratermaze. But I’ll definitely pick this up when the price drops.

Have it. Love it. However, Daimakaimura controls on the TG16 do not work properly due to an emulation glitch on the D-Pad. This seems to be an universal problem and is being documented on Reddit. Curious to know why it wasn’t mentioned on this review. Maybe the problem is not on all TG16 consoles as I thought. All the other games work fine control wise.

The price of the Turbografx16 mini rose from $150 to $200 on EBay after I bought mine. Amazon claims they don’t release them till December I’m just disappointed I don’t get DEAD MOON and SOLDIER BLADE. The only game they seemed to care about was Splatterhouse.

They have a US release date this month now, but you've been able to order them from Amazon Japan (which lets you toggle the interface to English) the whole time for $100 plus shipping ($12, IIRC, which isn't much more than sales tax would be if I ordered from Amazon US). They have all three versions (PC Engine Mini, CoreGrafx Mini, and TurboGrafx Mini) and the CoreGrafx and TurboGrafx are identical in content but the former is less than half the size of the latter (PC Engine Mini is same small size as CoreGrafx but has a very slightly different selection of games than the others), so I ordered a CoreGrafx Mini a month or so ago and it came in 5 days. TL;DR version: don't get ripped off by eBay weasels. Order it from Japan yourself for same list price if you can't wait or want a different version.

The thing i like about turbografx 16 mini is the game's and animation are the same as the arcade, and because it's a console the game's are easier than arcade version's. I can now play a version of R-type that looks and feels like the arcade but much easier.
