I liked when you said the word "cadence", it hit me right in the feels. There isn't any meat in this video, but the graphics are outstanding. I also appreciate the subtle hint of Terry S. Taylor thrown in for legal reasons, and to ward off the homeless. Don't think I didn't notice, Pal. I'm Random. Hi!

I had to read this about 5 times to detect which parts are jokes and which parts aren't. I'm still not sure which is which. Above all though, I'm glad we're both fans of combining green and purple in our branding.

I'm always really interested in the Lynx. I remember discovering it at a pawn shop in the late 90s. Never even knew it existed until then.

That take on the PC version of Chip's Challenge is a little ironic since most are more familiar with and nostalgic for the PC version. In fact the long lost sequel for PC was finally released on Steam a few years back.

I owned most of these. I miss my Lynx and the faves I had. Crystal Mines was great and I played the heck outta that one!.Hydra… man that one was fun too. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Lynx’s Toki. It felt like he was swimming in mud the whole game. I never had Xybots. That’s an interesting one. Great vid, John!!! (And as we talked about before, one of my faves was Xenophobe. I think that’s the best translation/port of that game on any console outside of the actual arcade ROM)

Back in the 90s, someone loaned me a Lynx for a couple weeks. I remember having the game Rygar, but I don't remember what other games (if any) he loaned me. My two biggest memories of the Lynx (original version) are that the cartridges were ridiculously hard to get out of the console, and that the screen was quite hard to see if the lighting conditions weren't perfect. Of course, being used to playing games with right-handed Atari era joysticks, I absolutely sucked at playing ANY console that used d-pads, so I sucked at playing all the Lynx games. I still can't play action games with a d-pad, or even a left-handed thumbstick. As for emulation, I've found the best stand-alone emulator is the multi-system Mednafen. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a GUI, so you have to spend a great deal of time figuring out the command line usage, or use a frontend. Chip's Challenge - I love these types of puzzle games, and I had a copy of this for the Amiga. I was working my way through the levels when I came to one that had a huge amount of bugs hopping back and forth on just two squares. You had to get the timing exactly right, or you'd die and have to start the level over. Getting past a couple of these is bad enough, but having to do a dozen or more is just nerve wracking. I eventually gave up on that level as I could get past a few of them, but then I'd invariably get hit.

Poor Lynx. Such a cool handheld. I worked in the electronics department of The Good Guys (remember them??) in the early 90s and loved the Lynx. I would always try to convince customers to give it shot over the mighty Nintendo and Sega, but folks just wanted Tetris and Sonic. Oh, well.

Althoughbindonremeber seeing the Jaguar at Kaybee Toy Store and I think they had that Altered Beasts running on it. I think that was the title but I could be wrong. It's been ages ago

Good video and list. I see that VGA out, did you get a McWill screen like me? I love Chip's Challenge and Crystal Mines II. I have beat every level, regular and bonus, on each game. Really enjoy Klax, Toki, and Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom also. I have beat Ninja Gaiden III, but Toki is too dang hard for me. Gates of Zendocon and Hydra get played occasionally, but I suck at Xybots. I first got a Lynx II in 1991 or 1992. I had three games back then: Tournament Cyberball 2072, Basketbrawl, and Rygar. I now have almost the complete retail set and quite a few homebrews.

Thank goodness for emulation. Gamers get to either relive or try out gaming consoles of yesteryear. I've always wanted to try out the 3DO, but as a kid obviously couldn't afford it, and this Atari Handheld looks intriguing.

Yup! I was very anti-emulation for a long time but I'm glad I've warmed up to it. So many experiences I would have never had otherwise are now available to me. And definitely try out the Lynx if you can! there's easily another 15-20 games I didn't mention that are just as good as these.

In regards to Crystal Mines II, I have two things I'd like to add. 1. There was a remake one time on Nintendo DS and PSP. 2. If this is Crystal Mines 2, then where is Crystal Mines 1?

@@Johnnygrafx Crystal Mines II is awesome - if I were to pick up my Lynx right now I'd maybe go for that or Rampart for a play. I always meant to get round to buying the CM2 :Buried Treasure expansion CD (with PC to Lynx cable) to load up extra levels. But I see you can just buy a cart now with those. Oh, and Crystal Mines 1 was an unlicensed game on the NES. Same company who did CM also did those Bible games.
