I’ve always thought that if you want a 1500 series truck as a daily driver primarily and family duties a Ford F150 STX with 2.7 is the best pick in term of value and overall economy.

True, when I first drove the 2.7 I was impressed, and I ended up getting one, the only reason I let it go was because of the Powerboost, needed the 7.2 kW Pro Power Onboard.

@@bantizzle79 oh totally. I think at normal speeds or like from a dig to 30mph they are super comparable. 3.5 just keeps the torque wave going, but for most people I think the 2.7 is the perfect engine and still suitable for decent towing. Came with all the warranties plus and extended premium package which was needed a year in. The 1st owner turned the truck in with 9000 miles and had more time idleing than driving. Great interview. A few points (not trying to contradict the guest) 1. He probably has a microfracture in the radiator thats not leaking but evaporating coolant. I wouldn't worry about it but the level of fluid loss he is experiencing is excessive. Secondly, manufacturers lie about service intervals to keep "cost of ownership" low on the retail side. Look to see what the recommendations for service are on the commercial side. As a GM owner I do my transmission services at 45,000 miles because thats what the "severe service" recommendation is for fleets.

I have a 2020 2.7 ecoboost. I had the cel came up for a bank 1 catalytic converter issue during 35,000 miles. I tried cataclean and it did clear the lights for about 5000 miles. Problem arose first time around aug 2023 of this year, clear the light, came back on nov 2023, went away, and finally reappeared around Christmas. I dropped my vehicle off for a diagnose last Tuesday and the dealer has ordered both cats and had them replaced for free under warranty. I have only used top tier gas from Costco or shell. Otherwise, this vehicle has been very reliable. No transmission problem or sync3 issue like the person stated in this video. I’m approaching 50k soon. If you are purchasing this vehicle, I highly recommend you get their ford backed extended warranty through Ziegler or Flood. It’s worth it and cheaper than buying it from your local dealer.

@@ALMX5DP I've had 2019 xlt 302a with 5.0 and 10 speed - worst vehicle I've ever owned - in less then 2 years I've had it, it was in shop for warranty for more then 50 days ( too bad no lemon law in Canada). That 10 speed was an absolute garbage - lot's of issues and warranty attempts to repair it, but nothing helped. I am 1000% sure that transmission would be done right after warranty expired ( I've been at 85k kms when got rid of it). Should have pushed dealer to change the transmission, but just got tired of it. Traded for a new 2022 also 302a with 5.0 and 10 speed - just like sales guys kept saying: "it is way better then previous gen", but IT IS THE WORST TRANSMISSION you can find not just in the truck, but the whole car industry - never worked properly from the day one - clunks, downshift kicks like you are rear ended, etc.. Anyway, in 1 year and 4 month that I have it now - my 5th transmission appointment next week and they are changing a valve body in transmission now. I've also had other warranty and recall work done to it. As someone who've had 3 Fords in last 9 years - it's a piece of shit vehicles, I'm sure it's the worst car brand you can get in Canada - Hyndai and KIA is way better quality then this crap.

It gets very decent MPG and it moves quicker than it has any right to . I only wish the STX carried a power sliding rear window or an overhead console but they're not deal breakers and I understand Ford wants to put you into an XLT with options or above to get those. People and even mechanics (Scotty) have this negative perception of turbo motors that's based on what turbo motors were like in the 90's and early 2000's when manufacturers were taking an existing motors and slapping an off the shelf turbos on the side. Most of today's motors are designed from the ground up to be turbocharged. The blocks are cast with sophisticated internal cooling jackets and are made of special alloys, the 2.7 here is made from compacted iron graphite, the same technology used in their 6.7 diesel. Most turbo motors these days actually run cooler than many of their NA counterparts. The turbos themselves are also far more sophisticated with better lubrication and cooling.

I did have a check engine light at approx. 30k (CAT bank 1). I cleared the code on my own scanner and never came back. Maybe was bad gas. I tow a boat about 2200lbs loaded prob once or twice per week. I get better gas mileage here in eastern NC, average 23+ mpg on 87oct. There’s so much that plays into that number (driving style, fuel quality, tire pressure, environmental conditions, city v. highway, etc). So far the truck has been fantastic. The only thing I’d wish Ford would change is the clamshell back doors. GM & Dodge both have regular swing doors on their extended cabs. Ford needs to do the same.

I will never hook up a sync system from any manufacturer. They collect all you personal information, they know everywhere you go and when and how you drive your car. Totally unnecessary in my opinion. Same with android auto and apple car play. Just pay attention to your driving and turn the radio on or talk to the people that are with you.

And if the truck has Sirius radio option, look at the very fine print in the contract you must agree to. For some reason they have to know the location of where you drive and keep track of your personal information. I don’t need that

I find it a bit amusing when people brag about 20, 30 or even 100k like the vehicle has really accomplished something. Guessing they’ve never owned Toyota. In 2020 I looked at replacing my 07 Tundra. I looked pretty closely at a F150 and a Ram. I’ve owned about 8 Rams in the past. I wanted another long term truck. Sort of wanted an ecoboost for the power and mileage but was concerned about reliability. I found a KZbin video bragging about how the owner of F150 has 200k miles. He listed all the things he had done/replaced on the truck. Sorry it was a pretty long list and I wasn’t impressed. I talked with a good friend that always drove F150’s and he really liked his 2019 but said don’t drive them much past the warranty before you replace it. Not what I wanted to hear. Those days of buying a new truck every 2 years were behind me. I replaced the shocks and struts and the starter on my tundra in the 13 years and 250k miles. The truck really held up both inside and out even though I was pretty hard on it. It even still had the original plugs. I finally came to the conclusion to get another Tundra. It’s nothing too flashy but it is reliable. But admittedly I’m not too sure the new redesigned Tundra will last as long though.

It all has to do with TC lockup for GM, which keeps the temp down. Ford has a huge problem keeping the Temps down. I never see over 185 on my denali hd, towing 16k+. For some reason, Ford seems to think 210+ isn't a problem? I beg to differ on that. 48:01

I drive my trucks for years and as many miles as i can. I don't change vehicles every three years. I'm disappointed Nissan killed the Titan, I love the Endurance V8 engine.
