I miss my GTI. The car that despite being unreliable, I considered buying another one again after writing it off because it was that good. It was very practical and it got better fuel economy than the Honda Civic I had prior. I replaced it with a BMW 335i which was (surprisingly) more reliable, capable, and has more presence, but sometimes I wished I got a GTI again.

I drive a Passat and it’s way faster than every other vw in my city. Used to hang around with mustangs, camaros, and challengers. Unfortunately I had to tune it down because it’s getting close to 200k miles and the engine can’t handle the power anymore. This means now all I am beating is chargers and mustang and camaros on rolls, sometimes if I can keep boost from 2nd to 3rd.

Look at what the mark 7 platform can achieve with just a simple stage 1 tune for the gti. I have had a 2017 wrx, 2018 ford st, 2012 civic si and I must say they new gti's can put down some numbers with just a simple tune and can always swap to a golf r is38 turbo.

Joe S. Stock turbo 1.8t is decent from 2500-3000 to 5500 then dies off. Big turbo 1.8t builds do get high hp, but have zero torque at lower rpm. A tfsi has crazy torque at 2000 and the stock turbo holds decent boost up to 6500 i think? I have a stock 1.8t, a 200hp 1.8t and i'm comparing them with my friend's b7 tfsi and my b8 tsi. 1.8t is crap at everything but sound and reliability

@@gigel99324 I was just wondering if you had a 1.8t. because I have one parked in my driveway and two more sitting on pallets in my garage.(check my channel). And it is my daily. My pride and joy is B5 S4 with twin k24s. But the 1.8t needs to be tuned properly. Yes I noticed it did not hold boost in high RPM. That's why I bought a Forge splitter,n75j, and a Forge wastegate acuator and installed the 10 lb sping. Mine holds 10-13 psi at redline and my mass airflow readings are around 180 g/s. Which equates to about 225 hp. Which is a damn respectable number for a 1.8 liter motor. And yes it's still has lots of torque. Breaks the tires loose on dry pavement in second gear at 3k rpm (19psi) with no clutch dropping assistance. To fix that problem you have to understand why it's happening. It is not that the ko3 is not capable of moving enough Air at high RPM. It is because the wastegate spring and flapper get blown open by the exhaust pressure. I fixed it with a couple hundred dollar wastegate actuator. But I have seen plenty of people on the forums adding a helper spring to the flap with a $3 spring from home Depot.
