@@CoyoteFTW it simply doesn’t make sense to me. You mean to tell me that Ford was building ALUMINUM blocks in 2005 that could make 3000 horsepower without cracking and putting them into production cars? That doesn’t seem physically possible. Bugatti engineered the veyron to be the fastest car in the world and I don’t think that the W16 in that car that made close to 1500 whp in the Chiron SS could handle double it’s factory output. Still amazing that a Ford GT, still road legal, was made to reach 300MPH. Took another decade and a half for another car company, bugatti, to make a road legal 300mph car, among others. GT was just so far ahead of it's time, people could really make it drive any way they wanted, rather than hyper expensive factory options. Bet the GT still even drives pretty normally around the road, even with the 3000HP.

John claims that he occasionally drives it on the street - runs errands, takes his kids to school, and so forth. With that said, he probably doesn't street-drive it a whole lot. One drunk driver, and he's out decades of work and hundreds of thousands of dollars. It wouldn't be too surprising, though, if he detunes it off the track. That wouldn't be too hard: change the EFI mapping, run it on pump gas instead of race gas, take the nitrous bottle and logging electronics out, put mufflers and bumpers on, open the wastegates early, and so forth. It might still be a handful, though.

I'm a GM guy but I have zero problems acknowledging the Ford GT is a masterpiece on 4 wheels. Too bad they didn't make some more of those 300mph beasts. I doubt I'm the only one who'd love to see several overly arrogant European auto manufacturers shut up and put in line for a bit..... If for any reason it would have shaken up the entire auto industry and the responses would have been interesting.

great vid! Loved that car when it launched (the new one... not so much as I think they completely missed the mark on what the essence of the car is). Had no idea someone made a version that could go 300mph!!

Back when I worked at a Ford dealership and being a new tech fresh out of the ASSET program, I was all about the svt line and taking all the classes and getting certified to work on the " big boy " toys. I remember the day we got two of these and they got shipped sealed and on casters. We had to push them into the show room . If anyone remembers tousley Ford in white bear MN , that parking lot was a down hill 😕 " if this 150,000 dollar car gets away from us this is gonna suck " .

In 2006 the owner of the project I was working on bought 3 GT40 cars and 2 GT500 cars and had them delivered to the shop. Those GT40 cars were beautiful and I remember the whole underside of the GT40 cars were completely covered by sheets of aluminum. The GT40 cars were blue with white stripes, white with blue stripes and black with silver stripes. The GT500 cars were blue with white stripes and white with blue stripes, both GT500 cars were signed by Carol Shelby on the dash. The GT500 cars were cool especially the white with blue stripes one as it came with the top tier race package, however I was all about those GT40 cars..

The original Gt90 design was going to use 2 Yamaha SHO v6 engines joined to make a v12 with 4 turbo units. During the design phase Ford stopped using the Yamaha engines and switched to the modular V12 custom engine. The Yamaha SHO v12 also had 4 turbos and 720 hp.

Camillo was my friend at the time he was doing the GT (I"ve kinda lost track of him lately). He and Sid Chiang were working on Petunia with Chelsea Lau as studio Chief (or maybe she was just a manager at the time). Both Sid and Camillo did some very aggressive and modern design proposals. J Mays didn't want to go new with it. J wanted to go retro. It's a shame that the world will never see what Sid and Camilo actually wanted to do. One earlier iteration of the retro version of the GT design had a much shorter front overhang and smaller more compact proportions overall. It still housed all the mechanicals that eventually ended up in the production car but the smaller car would have been faster and lighter. J didn't like it because it looked less impressive so they added the extra length. J sent a lot of good design work back into the clay oven.

Not a big deal but pretty sure it was a lysholm twin screw blower not eaton which only uses roots type which im pretty sure had not released their tvs rotors yet so it would be the older 60 degree 3 lobe rotors like the early gt500s with their m122 blowers.

The real secret to a high performance engine (as GM has discovered finally) is to abandon the push rod actuation of the valve train, either a Desmodromic, or chain driven DOHC layout with 4 valves per cylinder (to enable an ideal breathing cycle) gives the best results. This layout also removes the need to keep increasing the engine's capacity (and weight) by giving the ability for much higher revs. The DOHC chain driven system, precludes valve float, allowing for a smaller capacity engine to rev much higher. As demonstrated in GM's Corvette. This is hardly a secret really, it is simply that the USA has long taken a different direction, owing to the extraordinary low prices for fuel. The forced induction path is also an excellent approach, but again, with a smaller capacity engine, a higher revving unit can still deliver high torque and HP outputs.
