Plague Toads have trouble dealing with heavy armour like what Hammerers have, so that hill engagement is very noticeable because infantry will instantly die from being punted down the hill. It lead to the Hammerers taking way more damage than they should've, and was a great engagement by the Nurgle player.

Yeah pretty sure Hammerers batter shielded Chosen in a straight up fight. Taking two charges knocking dozens of models down the hill to insta death massively impacted there morale and damage output in that fight. A shame Hammerers are fairly glass cannon despite high stats and armour but they can do amazing in infantry fights and they didn't get any chance to show off against a perfect target in this game.

Each time the toads charged the hammerers, multiple hammerer models got knocked down the hill and died upon landing. That hill hurts!

I usualy try to bring at least 1 chosen unit when i do nurgle. They are the kind of unit that can just solo hold a point against crazy odds.

I really start to question whether the GW dwarf warriors are worth it over the regular ones. I mean, sure you get AP, but you trade 10 MD for that. chaos warriors don't have stellar MA either, so the regular dwarf warriors will hold out longer, if not do more damage because of that. The GW did almost nothing to the chaos warriors, most likely because of their high MD. Not to mention you have to pay an extra 50 gold for what is essentially a sidegrade.

The problem with the hammerers was they were fighting on the downhill side of a slope. It provides a massive debuff and a significant buff to the higher unit, and falling damage when they get punted is significant and can instakill models.

As Nurgle, what may actually be a decent call in against cannons in this matchup are Plague Drones with Deaths Heads. You can move them into the back field to fire at the cannon crew. If they call in Slayers because they expect you to land, you just stay in the air and keep firing and if they call in a ranged unit like Quarrelers or Bugman's, you can dive them and potentially get a free pick.

I wouldn’t say so. Those cannons would eat plague drones out of the sky if they stood still. Don’t know if deaths head has fire whilst moving but it would take far too long to kill every cannon crewman model with the poop grenades looking at the unit count. Not to mention 80 armor for a crewman unit. Nurgle just has a shit time with this match up. Both sides don’t have a lot of MA or AP but the difference comes out to the ranged units. I honestly don’t know how you’d approach this as a nurgle player.

Wouldn’t the cannon shoot the drones? Because dawi crews can actually aim.

@@idle_q3699 At max range, a cannon is able to take out about 1-3 models before the Plague Drones position above its firing arc. From there their ranged attacks do decent damage to the crew and easily kill the cannon models while being unable to be shot by it. I don't play a lot of dwarfs but I have played a fair amount of Nurgle and it seems like a pretty even matchup to me and Nurgle has solid AP in their great weapons, toads, throwing axe cav, and rot flies and plague drones which I think are being slept on in this matchup. I think the Nurgle build wasn't optimal at all here. Too many knights that were called out well after he lost the value trades, marauders in the opening for easy blasting charge targets, not enough flyers to pressure Gyrocopters, slow af Festus who is vulnerable to character goon squads & Gyros with no support. In my experience, you want a mobile caster with lore passive spam, great weapon warriors to weather the inevitable blasting charges and cleave through their frontline, and either Exalted Heroes or Cultists to pressure their ranged assets. Personally, I prefer the Exalted Heroes as they can hold up in melee against Dawi heroes better and the summons are hard to get off if they manage to tarpit you in infantry.

Hey Turin rewatch that battle and watch the toads charge your hammers. You can see about 1/3 of the models actually die due to fall damage and don't a chance to fight. I was wondering why the got smashed so quick and I watched it back a couple times

Having your units positioned on the edge of a hill makes it very easy to use that fall damage against you. Its pretty clear in the replay Subatai isn't doing it on purpose so maybe that be some forbidden tech you can whip out on this map or others

dude, half those hammers were killed by fall damage. those toads hit them on that downhill charge and it flung them far enough to die from fall damage. thats rough.

I think the Hammerers did extremely well, their holding power was immense considering what they were up against. Sometimes that´s all you need, for a unit to just hold.

As someone who has proudly Mained dwarfs for a while I’ve found a a few more niche things. Firstly dwarfs have no mass outside of their characters so always have max which can be really easy with thanes only costing 500gold, gyrocopeters aren’t that good and probably shouldn’t be brought in any match up, hammers lack the stat line to be worthy of an elite infantry but absolutely clean though warriors they’re good but need to be supported with a dwarf warrior filtered in. Giant slayers despite the large cost far exceed regular slayers and come recommended with factions that don’t have range I’ve used them so many times and chaos knights, soul grinders, dinosaurs, even elemental incarnate always folds in a minute or less with the right engagement. Though I’m of the firm opinion that the dwarfs need some massive buffs and new units in TOD

Great Dawi army selection Turin! I think half the game was won with the army composition and the other half with excellent tactical awareness and choices! GGs to the both of you! 🙂 I don’t know what it is about hammerers but they seem to be a bit lackluster at times.

Nurgle is actually not doing that bad. Someone even won a Turin SFT tournament with them a few days ago. Although that definitely wasn't expected.

Really good teq for this match up would be Plague ridden on a rot fly as the healer spell caster and Festus as the damage caster. Switch out furies for a unit of rot flys w/ death heads and it would make a big difference.

7:46 about 40 of those Hammerer models got killed due to fall damage after being flung on charge. Thats not good.

They should make gotrek the new high king of the three dwarves faction in AOS so they all go under one faction. Dwarves respect strength and gotrek could whoop any duardin lord from Aos in a hot second.

Honestly I've always found Hammerers to be kinda trash. They're pretty weak to missile fire but they're also not great against other infantry. They can dish out damage, sure, but only 36 melee defence means they'll be taking hits from even mid-tier infantry pretty consistently. Their gimmick seems to be high weapon damage, but the problem is they're way to slow to pick and choose their engagements and the Dwarfs have plenty of ranged options that can dish out DPS without taking a load of damage in return.

Jeez Turin, plis stop with this dawi showdown, my "Gob-lobber" can only get soo erect! What can Barfdemons do against such reckless hate? Everybody knows dwarfs eat farts 4 breakfast!......(Hol' up) on a serious note, Loving those cannon shots, gyroo's, gotrek+thane squad & lovin those bugman rascals and slayertides. Likewise im a bit disappointed on the hammerers -shortcomings- bad performance, watching them flying of the hill like 10m down dying instantly makes me sad (it really wasn't their fault)
