why are all these nuclear explosion videos cut short? non shows the whole explosion beginning to end.

what are those lines in the air?

They are exhaust trails from small rockets that are fired behind the explosion just before it goes off. They are used to measure the speed of the shock front, which you can see by how it's distorting the air.
