The most interesting part is that the air itself gets so hot that it is opaque to the light causing the caractoristic double pulse. A fast bright pulse then a dimming and then when it cools enough the light escapes in a longer lasting brigter pulse.😮

If humanity were to become extinct, it would likely be due to the nuclear weapons created by humans.

BRITAIN'S first 'H-bombs', tested in 1957, were not H-bombs at all, but a bluff to convince the world that Britain was still a first-rate power, according to research to be published tomorrow. At the time, the report's authors say, it probably even fooled the Americans for a while. It provoked an interest in the British nuclear programme that ended with the US giving Britain the means to manufacture true H-bombs in exchange for access to British ideas and designs for future weapons. According to the research, the secret of the bluff was confined to top nuclear scientists and inner government circles.

Teapot Turk had a yield of 43 kilotons and was fired on March 7, 1955 at 5:20 AM in Area 2 of Yucca Flat in Nevada. The test involved a 500-foot tower detonation. (from a google search.)

The bit where the spikes come down each one of those spikes could boil a kettle of water in less than a minute but you wouldnt want to make tea with the water because it might be radioactive.

Did I read correctly once that bombs that exceed a certain size just send the forces into outer space and you basically negate the forces you intended? A sort of limit to nuke sizes because then you get less bang for your buck basically?
