I'm Brazilian, almost 28. Here we were very embarassed and sorry for the simulation of Rivaldo in the first game and the penalty wrongly awarded by the referee. To this day I'm still obsessed with this 2002 Turkish squad. I remember my dad calling me Basturk for years when I played football with him. In Winning Eleven always choosing Turkey... Turkey may have been considered as an underdog team that year, but most of you don't know, that their success was not really a big surprise. 8 or 9 players from the starting line-up of the Turkish team at this World Cup 2002 were players from Galatasaray, who had won the UEFA Cup against Arsenal and the Super Cup against CL-winner Real Madrid in 2000 - only two years before this World Cup. After Galatasaray won both trophies, they were ranked nr. 1 in the IFFHS Club World Ranking list. They dominated the Turkish league in the previous 6 years and topped their success with two European major trophies and the 3rd place in the World Cup. They also reached the quarterfinals in the CL in 2001, but were stopped by Real Madrid.

Ahhh 2002! The first World Cup i watch. i was 6 y/o and was rooting turkey coz they are a muslim country. But I was too young to understand that Turkey had wrote a history by winning bronze in the World Cup. Rarely qualified but when qualified, they make history.

They were our Golden Generation their firt tournement was 1992 Medeterian Cup and we took the cup against France(zidane was captain of France) and we beated spain in semi final all our team players were under 20 years old then.1996 first time we participated euro cup in our history with almost same team and avarage of age was 23 years old,2000 Euro Cup we played quarter final with same squat and 2002 semi final in world cup,the each year they getting old and we could not find new genaration.We played semi final in Euro 2008 semi final with another squat but that team was not so strong like player that play in 2002 world cup,now we found new genarion strong like 2002 and they are so young most of players are less than 24 years old.
