Xr choke and xr shells are my favorite. Xr choke is my favorite coyote choke as well. Nice video man.

Used this combo for year's now, shooting an 870 28 in pump, single bead sight, wood stock just basic. I'm running the Carlson's longbeard xr choke .660, with longbeard xr #4. I've practiced & patterned, for me I feel completely comfortable taking a shot out to 60 yds. But that is my limit, I feel like past 60 yds I lose to much pattern to be lethal & ethical & we all want to be as ethical as possible. But great video Brother, it's really awesome to see that ol" 870 still cranking along. I'm from TN as well, so hopefully these ridges around here will be sounding off opening day. Good luck Brother & God Bless!

@@drewtilghman7875 I sure did Brother, absolutely incredible. 2 awesome TN turkey's & finally ended the story on a bird I have hunted for 4 year's. The best pattern I have ever had in 20 years of turkey hunting was a carlsons long beard choke with 3 1/2 inch long beard #4 out of an sxp. At 40 yards all shot was inside an 18 inch circle.

Hey Tristan, thanks for watching the video. I am not sure if you are asking me or if you are asking Todd Bunnett, but I would encourage you to go out and pattern your gun. I love the Carlson products. I have it in my 12 gauge, 20 gauge, and now in my coyote gun (12 gauge). Hope this helps!

Carlsons long beard choke, Winchester long beard xr #5 and Remington 870 is my go to. Took a stud Osceola Tom earlier this month at 41 yds. I'd say I'm confident to 50 yds with that setup!

Great job! You might try the hevi-shot turkey choke. This is my favorite. It is a .662 construction. It has the rings like the carlsons with longbeard xr 5s deadly. Also great with winchester varmint x coyote loads.
@drewtilghman78753 жыл бұрын
I love to hear that about the varmint loads. The TSS I’m shooting is getting pretty expensive. I am finding too that most of the predators I’m shooting are inside of 30 yards. Lead will do the trick just fine there. Thanks!
@kevinrich9471 Жыл бұрын
The IC needs to be cleaned after every shot because it has wad stoppers cut into it that get fouled after every shot as do most turkey chokes. Plus, a large piece of paper will show the complete pattern instead of just a portion

I run 3.5" longbeard #5 in my Mossberg 535 with the Mossberg factory choke. 45 yards is just the tip of the iceberg with that load. Not sure how far the 3" lags behind it but I've patterned it to 70 yards. While every pattern at 70 that I've taken would kill a turkey, nobody would argue the ethical pattern up to 60 yards. Truly impressive.
@drewtilghman78753 жыл бұрын
Sounds good Bryan. That’s a little farther than I’m comfortable with, however I just killed a tom with some #9 TSS at about 45 yards, out of a 20 gauge, so I know I’m comfortable out that far! :) thanks for watching and commenting.

My daughter crawled up a bank of a branch that ran beside a field a few yrs ago and killed a turkey at 69 paces using long beards 3 inch 6 shot through the Carlsons Set up was, Benelli Nova 28 inch barrel , carlsons Long beard choke, Winchester long beard 3 inch 6 shot. I stayed behind there in the creek and wasn’t beside her to tell her it was to far which this time payed off anyway. Due to shells being hard to find and just getting what’s available this year unknowingly, she will be using the long beard 3.5 inch 2 1/8 ounce magnum, that’s a lot of shot going out the barrel and thumping back on her shoulder but she will never know when ole Tom is out there strutting.

I shoot a Remington 870 with 21" barrel. The forcing cone has been lengthened and polished. Shooting Long Beard XR 3" #5s through an Indian Creek .665, it will average about 185 pellets in a 12" circle. Won't punch as many holes as #9 TSS but definitely kills turkeys!! You should clean the barrel after every shot to remove fouling.

I just got an 18.5" carlsons barrel for my 870 for home defense. Do you think it would be a good turkey gun? Also what shooting sticks are you using, never used one.
@drewtilghman78752 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I used to use an 870 with a 21” barrel, and it worked fine. I have wanted to own this 870 for some time, so I’m excited to use it. I actually kill more turkeys with my 20 gauge Browning BPS, using #9 TSS, and it has a shorter barrel. The main question I have for you is, does your barrel have interchangeable choke capability? If so, then you should be fine. If not, you limit yourself on range if it is fixed as improved or modified. A turkey shotgun is usually choked to a full (at least), extra full, or a turkey choke. Carlson and Indian Creek make some of the best chokes, in my opinion. They all need to be patterned though. Hope this helps!
