Heres something off topic that you may find interesting. :) The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird 'turkey'...... .....but the name of the bird does have a connection with the name of my country, let me explain. :) In the past 40 years 37 countries have changed their name, partially or fully. Obviously one can not change the name of an apple or an orange etc in other languages, but country names are like peoples' individual names, so if you're named John we don't call you Karen. :) Name of my country has always been Türkiye, it's been known as such since around the 1200's. The name it self has a suffix, '-iye', that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means 'land of/belonging to', just like the Latin suffix of '-ia', which exists in such country names like Austr-ia, Austral-ia, Indones-ia etc. Basically, the use of '-iye/-ia' is the same as the the use of '-land' suffix in country names like Ire(Eire)-land, Po(le)-land, Eng(Anglo)-land and so on and so on. Many would remember the country Czechoslovak-ia which changed it's name to Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia). The Latin suffix -ia probably originates from Turkish -iye as Turkish been over 10,000 years is much older than Latin which is around 1300 years old. Spelled in different languages in different ways to phonetically resemble (to sound like) 'Türkiye' we got various spellings like; Turq-uía (in Spanish), Turch-ia (in Italian), Turq-uie (in French) Turk-ei (in German) Turk-ey (in English) Mind you this was way before the animal we currently know as turkey was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas. The bird was first sent to europe from north americas in the year 1519, so up until that point there was no bird named turkey.... ...they came across the bird and thought it was a specie of the fowl/chicken they had been buying from the country of Turkiye at the time, so they named the bird 'Turkey Fowl' to define 'Turkish Chicken'... ....just like how a dog breed is known as German Shepherd (because it's from Germany), American Bulldog, British Terrier, Greek Harehound etc etc. In time you don't get to call the harehound simply as Greek or you don't call the terrier Britirsh, or shepherd as simply German, but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just 'Turkey' and later 'turkey', and this went on for hundreds of years. Now in modern times, this caused confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their own country on an atlas. Basically we didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : ) So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : ) Best wishes. ;)

Hi there! Here is a few tips about the meal that you had. On the appetizers plate the one on the righr side is "sigara böreği"(1on1 translation is cigar pastry) which is stuffed and rolled thin slice of dough fried in veggie oil. As far as I understand from your dessert plate the one creamy one on the left is "un helvası" means flour halva which made with flour, sugar, butter and sometimes milk.... Always enjoy your videos. Call me crazy, but I actually liked the 777 seats more than the 787. More leg room. We were two, so I didn’t mind the lack of separation between seats. Our layover was so long we were eligible for a room with bed inside the lounge! One of our flights was a late night departure. After takeoff the cabin crew did turndown to the whole cabin all at once. It was an awkward and disruptive ordeal with many passengers standing trying to get out of the way. That was the only weird moment. Otherwise TK was a very nice experience! 31.5k from KUL to NAP, and another 31.5k from VIE to SEA. So sad it’s hard to impossible to get those deals anymore. ✈️🌍
@MelsMilesandPoints5 ай бұрын
The universal turndown service does sound awkward 😂, but I'm sure the rest of the experience made up for it, right? Glad you qualified for a sleeping room. Do you remember how long your layover was? I am flying Turkish again in October and will have an all night layover. I read that if your layover is over 9 hours, you can't get a sleeping room (seems strange to me since that's when you would most need a room). I have reserved a room at the airport Yotel just in case for now, but would love to know how strict they are about that. I might be crazy, but I'm kind of looking forward to spending the whole night at the airport 😅

@@MelsMilesandPoints That is strange. Our flight was 18 months ago, so hopefully my memory is not too fuzzy. I remember our layover being between 8-9 hours. I remember rushing to the lounge and going straight to that reservation desk. I had a hunch the rooms were in demand. We got the last one, and the wait for the next one can be hours. Mel, rest assured, I too would have gone to the airport 4 hours early to visit the lounge. I think you're an avgeek at heart. There are certainly worse places to spend your time then in the premium lounges at different airports around the world. What stands out to me about your flight is that the last 3 Turkish business class reviews I've seen now, including yours, have mentioned a lack of friendliness from the cabin crew, with the other two wording it a bit more strongly than you did. One review I wouldn't notice, two, I make a mental note, three? and now it's a trend. Aside from the lack of congeniality from the crew, it seemed like a perfectly fine business class experience.

You are showing the A350 (Only 24 in service) the new addition to the fleet on TK. A350's are equipped with their new interior, so you cannot judge the entire TK flight by watching this. Their 777 (34 in service, i think there are several from Aeroflot which i have not flown but seen on your tube which has a new cabin intereor) and 330 (49 in service) fleet has very old antiquated cabin interior. I flew JFK-IST-JFK half dozen times in their business class including a flight last month. Bins were falling apart, seats were not functioning properly and in really bad condition. I flew on 777 and 330 on those half dozen flights. Other than than, service, F&B and the IST airport is out standing. wish they upgrade those 777's and 330's to bring that extra touch. Am i the only one who is seen this? I am talking about business class on long haul not coach.

Yes, you’re right that this review only applies to a specific aircraft. That’s why I mention the type and put it in the title. I hope all their planes are eventually converted to a similar level. When I book, I do my best to always get this one 😄

They are charging+100.000 miles for same route from its own Turkish clients.

Some of their flights require more points no matter where you live I think. I usually search for what they call saver award availability which can be tougher to find. I would think that might be an option for you too? I hope so 😁

I am only able to because of being able to pay with points, and I know how lucky I am to be able to. I hope you get to experience it soon too 🤞(maybe you can look into earning points)!

There ground staff are the rudest you can imagine, but staff on planes travelling to north america are great
@MelsMilesandPoints5 ай бұрын
The flight attendants on my flight were helpful and definitely not rude, but they also weren't as friendly as I'm used to. But I'm guessing that probably varies depending on the particular flight you happen to be on.

The worst seat I ever had, like a cage. No space for tall people. I could not sleep because it was to short.

@@IngeHartmann-p5g I’m sorry to hear that. I’m short, so it worked well for me, but that definitely sounds uncomfortable if it was too short for you.

Turkish Airlines is the best imo, but their quality is worse today than it used to be. I feel like that applies to all airlines though.

I flew Istanbul to Singapore recently when Singapore Airlines cancelled my flight. I can’t say I was impressed with their on board service, I had read so much about food etc, personally I found it below average. As for the business seats, it was a 2-3-2 configuration where people in a window seat literally have to climb over the other passenger to get to the aisle. Not at all impressed, no thank you…..
@MelsMilesandPoints3 ай бұрын
@@nikintinia1732 I hate the 2-3-2 seating on any flight so I'm sorry you had to deal with that! And I'm surprised and sorry to hear the food and service wasn't good. I wonder if the route impacts that?

Such a disappointment by traveling Turkish airline Emirates Qatar airways and eithad airline are the best one
@classics392 ай бұрын
?? I have the highest status with both Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines. While I get preferential treatment with Qatar even when flying Economy (often blocked seats next to me, personal welcome by purser, etc) none of that with Turkish, but quite often operational upgrades to Business Classs. The catering, food on Turkish is a different league altogether. Had my best lamb cutlets and best Red Snapper ever, breakfast is exquisite.. The same at the lounges. Qatar comes nowhere near that. Al Safwa lounge is fantastic but food is subpar... I've stopped flying Emirates a long time ago. Airport is dreadful.
