I am Greek and I love Turkey and its people. Despite our political differences and our hostile history, I always have been treated kindly, and with much enthusiasm for my origins. I have studied the language for a few years and this has earned me a lot of gifts and treats from the locals. I always feel at home there because we share so much of our culture and here in Athens where I live, I frequent a lot of Turkish shops and restaurants :)

I had a turkish boyfriend for 6 years, when I visited his parents in a tiny village in the mountains, everyone was really nice to me. I didn't cover my head and most of the time I wore jeans and a tee just like other young people in the village. And turkish people there turned out to be much more tolerant than I expected, they asked me a lot about our religion and never criticised or said that it was wrong even though many aspects are different. Even though we broke up, I still have a lot of pleasant memories of this place and people there.

Unless you are a very rude, ignorant tourist, you'll have a great time when visiting Turkey, and you will understand that Turks are one of the most hospitable peoples in the world. Also about food: if you are into good, healthy, tasty food, be sure that nothing will be left in the plate! Well, maybe a little, because the variety of food, deserts and sweets is enormous! Greetings from Turkey. I really start to hate politics and the world when I see people like you. We eat each other's food, listen to their music, watch TV series and movies, in short, we complement each other, but our politicians create ridiculous competition and tension. Now both Greece and my country have entered the arms race. I hope nothing bad happens between our countries. I always ask God for this. Killing people is not the solution.

@@fffff3206 As an American who has been to many countries while a child of a member of the USAF and while serving myself in the USAF, I can tell you for a fact that the American education system is lacking when it comes to world cultures & geography. Prior to my first tour in Turkey, I thought that it was a burned over desert. Once I got there I was surprised to see trees at Incirlik AB (Adana area). In fact at Balikesir (my assignment, about a third of the way between Izmir & Istanbul) we actually got snow the following winter (I arrived in late spring). I so loved my first tour in Turkey, I volunteered to go back when my base in the UK was closing. Funny thing as a USAF brat & service member, I've seen Roman ruins in Germany, the UK, & Turkey, but not Italy (simply because I was never stationed in Italy).

*Because some foreigners are prejudice to Muslims, I decided as a foreigner to enter a Mosque as a greenhorn...and maaaan the men in there welcomed me so warmly, and were hugging me, and showed me where to do the abdes and what to do....it was so sweet and I even joined the prayers. I am still not Muslim, but I learned a lot about them. The Mosque was a splendor to behold from the inside and my feet sank into the deep rugs, it was fragrant with the scent of rose water. I received sooo much respect for simply showing respect for another religion's point of view as a non-Muslim pagan person. Afterwards I was invited to tea and meals. NOBODY tried to convert me or preach to me. They kept saying: **_"It is enough that you are acting like a brother!"._** When I had to leave Turkey, it broke my heart. I am not Muslim, but I have nothing negative to say about the Turkish form of Sunni Islam. They are very liberal in every way. It's really classıc thing to say but i have to. Our Great Leader Ataturk wrote a letter about Anzacs who lost their lives in WW1 and this is how are we looking to this situation. “Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives… You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side in this country of ours. You, the mothers, who sent their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears. Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well.”

2:36. So true what the Turkish admin says. I am Muslim from Malaysia. My prayers still valid even if someone walks in front of me, I'll continue praying. But it is good that someone does not walk in front of a Muslim person who is praying, a sign of respect. In Malaysia, we place an object, usually a pillow, in front of us if we want to pray, and allow people to walk past the pillow while we pray behind the pillow line.

Same here. When I moved to Turkey from Europe, a Canadian asked me how I like living on those farms. And I had to tell him that I lived in a highly modern metropole in a high class area and went out on weekends for a drink of Turkish beer. This came as a total surprise to the Canadian. Also, I had to cool down some apathetic European comments about the Turkish President who totally modernized the nation. Anybody is free to express their religious stance in public, but I did not find President Erdogan unfriendly or harsh, but with 4 million refugees from Syria and a war right across the border, no president will act like it's a party to defend and lead a nation. 80 bombs hit Turkey while I was there in 2019, and I fully understood why Turkey's problems come from abroad...and I was so sorry to see that. I've been going to Turkey twice a year for the last 15 years. Most of the comments on the video are so wrong. I've never had a problem with eating during Ramadan. My wife and daughters have never been pressured by what they wear. I've managed , over the years , to learn some basic Turkish. Try to learn some basic things like please , thank you , excuse me , hello , goodbye etc and your Turkish experience will improve massively. The Turks loved my attempts at their language and would often sit with me to correct and improve my efforts. I love Turkey and I'm planning to retire in or around Fethiye. Love and respect to Turkey and its people and I really hope your country pulls through the current economic problems.

I am glad to see the original vid has now gone. Yours is a great video. I used to live in a part of London where there were a lot of Turkish and Greek people from both Cyprus and from Turkey and Greece. They were neighbours and friends. But we often talked about the different perception people had of those countries, especially following the war in Cyprus. Some parts of the British press have demonised Turkey as a country over the years - almost a hangover from the crisis in Cyprus. In recent times, thanks to Brexit, those parts of our Press have lied about how much of Turkey follows Islam, and has portrayed that as a threat to the UK, saying if Turkey joins the EU, they would all come to the UK. It was vile! A complete misrepresentation of a country and its people. How many people outside of Turkey realise that it has been a secular state since 1928? Even though it has moved more towards Islam under some recent governments, which is a shame. I think all states should be officially secular. I think people who have never been there too quickly mix up Istanbul with Tehran, Baghdad, and even Riyadh, and don't understand how different it is. It is a little more understandable with people in the US. It is geographically a long way away, and has traditionally been a country living around the edges always facing inwards - hence why there have been some US politicians who have TERRIBLE knowledge of the rest of the world. But I see this kind of thing in the UK as well. Considering how many Britons take holidays in Turkey and eat Turkish kebabs from their local van, it is unforgivable!

I found Turkish not Islamic religious at all but most likely European. There was alcohol in each hotel’s room. They wont turn off the music while Azan been recited. Most of the women wear revealing clothes. There were even condoms in hotels room’s fridge. Alcohol was sold openly. They were asking women to cover their heads but didn’t care if they wearing shorts inside the mosques. In this drama’s Yurek Cikmazi first episode they were reciting QURAN with the loud music. In their dramas they show European cultures alcohol drank by everyone. Women sleeping with men. All kinds of stuff. DO NOT MISTAKE TURKEY FOR A RELIGIOUS COUNTRY.

The quality of food there is sooooooo fresh and of such high standards that when I came back to my country I lost all appetite. I love Turkey coz it IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY WITH VERY BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE (inside and outside)! Even tho Islam is the main religion there but their constitution is genuinely secular which makes me the happiest. To those who want to wear hijab and practice Islam, by all means. To those who don’t, great! No repercussions or whatever unlike their neighboring middle eastern extremists. I feel so sorry that Turkeye is often and still mistaken as a middle eastern country. You want conservatives and constant religious control? Go to Malaysia. They claim to be secular but the amount of incidents of religious extremism is everywhere. Once again, I LOVE TURKEYE! 🇹🇷

Mid 2007 i was touring Europe with friends, we came across an opportunity to visit Istanbul Turkey. We were taken to Taksim where our hotel was. After resting, we made our way down to Taksim square which was chaos but a perfect chaos. We ate slak burger with the yogurt drink i forget the names, it was amazing. We sat by the busy road and talked to locals where i found out Turkey once had a woman president, and that their biggest traditional singer was a trans woman. At some point a fight broke out between some gangster kids that the oldies quickly broke up. we then went to a local shisha bar and got completely stoned on hashish, the bar owner loved us and sat with us all night, he was a legend. At some point, amongst all the chaos the ezan just came out of nowhere and was sung by a man with an amazing voice. The locals slowed their chaos slightly only to bounce back to their previous rhythm as soon as it finished. We could see monuments and beautiful architecture in the distance, and the street with shops bars and restaurants was never ending. The locals were amazing, they would force us to sit with them and drink tea and the food was to die for! One of the most beautiful gems in the world, a must visit. It was a huge culture shock coming from a little town called Melbourne in Australia and my first time abroad. The experience was wonderful.

I have been to Turkey about 5-6 times. I had several interactions with the local Turkish people. Almost all of them are sweet and helpful! People went out of their way to help me. Of course like every country some people like taxi drivers (not all) and some shop keepers try to take extra money from you, but it happens everywhere! One Kebab shop owner, ran out of Chicken and offered beef kebab to me. When I told him that I don't eat beef, he called his 'arkadas' and got me a chicken kebab! We became good friends and he didn't charge me, I owe him one! Media portrays a not-so-good picture but in reality I found Turkish people very friendly and helpful to tourists. Also, it all depends on how you approach them. Lets respect their culture and the people! #can_kutas Wonderful job! Keep going.

I am Azerbaijanian who visited Turkey several times. That video has been made without any searching. Turkish people are marvellous with their help, kindness, positiveness. I like the way, they behave to tourists. Not only in Istanbul, I have been in other regions as well. So, Turkey is my one of the first option when I decide to visit somewhere) İn my opinion the only problem is with taxises’ drivers, sometimes they try to use long way instead of short. Especially if they see, you are tourist and don’t know about city. You just need to identify your destination in your map and see how much it takes to drive)- not all drivers, some of them do that.

I've been to Turkey SO many times. Love it. Destination Tips are so wrong. The only thing I have experienced in Turkey I didn't like much is some unwanted attention (which is any attention at all in my particular case) with my clearly Slavic exterior (blonde, pale skin, light grey eyes). Guys would shout "Natasha" with me passing by, but that's about their personal level of education after all. IMHO people in 99% of the cases anywhere in the world will be nice and will politely tell you if you do something wrong. The greatest tip for traveling anywhere in the world is "don't be an asshole". Treat people as you'd like to be treated :) iyi günler :)

I am so sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, in the 1990ies, after the fall of the Soviet block, thousands of Eastern European women became sex workers in Turkey.
