I demonstrate turning a simple box of walnut and dogwood. I overcome a couple of big catches. I show how to use a DIY collet chuck to finish the top.

That was exciting two flyaways I love turning black walnut and use an oil or oil and beeswax finish on it I enjoy your videos without background music and just watch me turn this format I have a Ray Key box gouge that was a gift , I love it and make small boxes and dice and pencil cups with it without a pilot hole

@@MikePeaceWoodturning I got my key gouge from my brother from his father in laws estate Graham knew Ray from when they were both living in G B It is a dandy tool for trinket boxes as you can open and hollow without a pilot hole

The road to the box base was a bit rocky but the trip to the lid went very smoothly. In the end all was well and the result is a very nice little box with a finial lid. Very good Mike. The chuck for finishing the base of the lid is a new one to me. I must remember that for future projects. Thank you for sharing Mike. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

Glad to see even the professionals have a bad day sometimes, was part of it that you had a shallow tenon? Nice project to add to my list, thanks
@MikePeaceWoodturning
@MikePeaceWoodturning Жыл бұрын
No, it was too aggressive a cut with a dull tool. It would likely have pulled most any tenon loose.

mike i have been watching your videos for long time,,,got out of turning and went to making furniture making but now im getting back into turning,,,,i noticed when i use the thin part tool it starts to getting kinda bumpy about half way thru the cut,,any suggestions on what im doing wrong,,,
@MikePeaceWoodturning
@MikePeaceWoodturning 7 ай бұрын
Perhaps it is binding. You need to widen the opening every 1/2" or so of depth. Perhaps add 1/2 blade width or even a full blade width of additional kerf. Also if it is a thin parting tool with a short handle, you lack leverage on deep cuts.
