While it's true that yes black absorbs more heat. What you probably don't realize is that black also has a better coefficient of heat transfer. While you're riding black will actually be cooler than white when the wind is hitting you. Basically white absorbs less heat But it's harder to dissipate the heat that it does absorb compared to black.

I use the Pando leggings every day to work all day under business slacks for over a year now.I agree with all your points positive and negative on them. Just to add for a bit of long term use info: the knee armor is starting to split from constant bending, the feet straps have ALWAYs been more annoying then useful and high friction spots are starting to get lumpy. I own a pair of the Skin UH 3 leggings and they are great for city riding. Just enough protection if I were to go down at 45 mph or under. However, freeway speeds might make you think twice about wearing just these as your only protection due to the fact that they are only CE AA Approved. That said, they look great under a pair of skinny jeans and are barely noticeable with the knee armor. Also, if you have tick thighs like me (Olympic Weightlifter) the inner thigh has held up nicely compared to other pants I wear.
@ethanrhanielle2474
@ethanrhanielle2474 Жыл бұрын
I think you may have a small misunderstanding about abrasion ratings. CE AA and AAA are actually pretty protective. Zone 1 abrasion has to withstand 7 seconds of constant abrasion under load for AA and that's plenty high trust me. As someone covered in road rash from slides at 45-60mph, the slide time is really much shorter than you think. I'm a downhill skater so I've slid at 45-50 a fuck ton and my long slide time in a fall was like 3 seconds. Asphalt really slows you down hard. At 60-65mph you'll see closer to 5-6 seconds. So not only will the leggings last u on a slide that fast, you also don't keep ur load constant in a crash. You'll shift ur weight around as u slide and maybe even tumble which will slow u down even faster. I'd say the only garment to not take on the highway is A rated stuff. Zone 1 only last about 4 seconds on those slides so that's just cutting it too close
@jodx7256
@jodx7256 Жыл бұрын
Even on the highway, you usually don't fall at full speed, you manage to brake for like half a second or a full second, thus the 60-70 mph turns into 45-55, then the AA is more than enough I have to say, I love the new A/AA/AAA rating, it limits the brands bullshit, very good norm I think
@ImTheBoss914

@@jodx7256 Same, I'm in the United States, and I fell for buying an "armored hoodie" ... looks great, and has pads for shoulders and elbows but it literally cost ~$200 USD for a regular hoodie that has kevlar in the shoulders and elbows w/ pads but Absolut nothing aside from that protects me and has no official rating. So now I shop from companies that are based in the EU since they have to abide by the A/AA/AAA standards which makes it easier to tell whose selling bullshit and whose not. 100% agree with you, also they just dropped the Shell UH 03, which the entire thing is now rated at AA.

@@ImTheBoss914I'm in the UK 🇬🇧 I buy inexpensive riding clothing with high abrasion ratings, usually non branded stuff and they usually only include the basic level of impact resistance in the elbows, shoulders, knees, etc. but the one thing they all have in common is that all the pad protection should be removable for garment cleaning. I searched online for next level protective pads to replace the originals, most can be trimmed to fit if the pocket sizes are slightly smaller

I just got the pants today off watching your review weeks ago. I love them, they were exactly what i was looking for. The material doesn’t feel cheap and is sturdy but tight to the body keeping the pads in place. They literally feel like they turn any pants you wear over them into heavy duty motorcycle Jeans, without sacrificing looks or safety. Pads in, i put them on under my skinniest jeans (and they are skinny as fuck) and they didn’t feel unwearable. If your on the fence about em, just buy them. I don’t think you’ll regret it. I’m 5’8 150 if that helps at all and their comfy as shit, pads in.

@thelevelrider64
@thelevelrider64 2 жыл бұрын
I am forced to disagree. With the technology in today's gear advancing at an unbelievable pace, a lot of that sticker price is due to the high costs of R&D. And to get a lower price, you're going to have to compromise somewhere, whether it be on protection, comfort, or durability. If that's a compromise you're willing to make, for WHATEVER reason (and there certainly ARE valid reasons... affordability on a budget comes most immediately to mind!), then yes, you probably can find cheaper gear. But remember, you DO get what you pay for.
@cprn.
@cprn. 2 жыл бұрын
The prices will drop as soon as other companies release something similar or better. In every industry the early adaptor is the one that earns the least because of aforementioned R&D costs - that's why they have to price it so high. Other producers will spend 100x less on R&D because they can "research" the existing products. It's the beauty of market benchmarking.
@thelevelrider64
@thelevelrider64 2 жыл бұрын
@@cprn. By then, however, someone else who IS putting in the R&D will have come up with something better; more breathable, more protective, more comfortable, whatever... and if you're buying the last generation stuff that has now declined in price, you're still not getting the best available.
@cprn.
@cprn. 2 жыл бұрын
@@thelevelrider64 It depends. This here is a big breakthrough so it'll take a while for the market to equalise. Even if someone's already sitting on a new meaningful breakthrough they won't reveal it until all of the competition uses up their resources on catching up with their old product because they want to have the cutting edge on release and won't risk any competition skipping a line of products and thus catching up with the new thing faster than anticipated. Therefore there's a sweet spot each year when enough companies released similar products for the prices to drop but not all of them. There's about 6 months gap, usually.

I was just thinking about picking up a pair of base layer pants. I usually forego the motorcycle pants. They are usually big, bulky and generally uncomfortable to ware. I also live in Texas where it's over 37c for p much the whole summer riding season. So even thick denim is a death sentence. Or at least a good way to get heat rash. In the past i've just accepted that if I go down my pants will have the protection of paper. So these look like a good happy medium.

I am slightly concerned though, since on the armour which goes inside the clothing, doesn't have any T+ or T- marking respectively, which often comes with the CE rating for S(houlder) E(lbow) and K(nee) protectors. Meaning they're not tested at -10, or 40+ celcius temp wise. Meaning they could wear out A LOT quicker than expected in warmer (or colder) weather conditions.

I'm not going to wear UHMWPE clothing as a base layer. At least not without aramid underlays in the high risk zones. It conducts heat very well - Pando Moto even says that - but that means in road friction it will melt around 120C while losing its tensile strength at somewhere around 80C. I test motorcycle PPE for research and UHMWPE without proper steps to insulate it from road friction melts readily. There are ways to mitigate this but Pando Moto isn't doing any of them. It's not what you want near your skin when you're sliding down the road. Sometimes MFG's are idiots and don't do any research before selling gear.

Second summer having these, the legs aren’t really an issue at all, you get some swamp ass but not too bad. The upper portion is where some people might get uncomfortable, the back gets really sweaty with the back protector in, however if you have a backpack you can put it in there instead. I’d definitely recommend wearing a t-shirt or even a long sleeve under the top garment. It may seem counter intuitive cuz you’re adding a layer, but without it I noticed the gear sticks to my skin because the sweat can’t escape as easily, the undershirt allows my sweat to be absorbed and then the wind takes it away, making me feel more comfortable. Also has the added benefit of keeping it a little less stink.

@@ImTheBoss914 I agree. I’ve got the set as well and the leggings are great, I don’t have any issues with them. But the shirt is just too hot on hot days because it’s so tight on your body (even with a shirt underneath). Would’ve been better off with just a mesh jacket with good ventilation. On regular days or evening rides it’s great tho. Leggings are definitely a recommend, shirt only below about 24°C (I’m pretty heavy with makes me sweat more easily so maybe skinnier guys would have less of an issue with it)
