Yeah, i remember some 3d sumo game that had a similar premise. Each player had to move a limb and would lock in their moves before it was performed and then it eould show the whole match how it would've looked in real time. Pretty sure i know that game because Jerma played it too lol

Came for the Jerma, stayed for the genuinely pretty neat gameplay. This is a really cool concept, and even with the placeholder assets it's a solid execution. No input execution, no moment-to-moment decisions, no reactions, it's just all the decision-making with prediction and conditioning. It's a great way of examining the core fundamentals of the genre.

The closest thing to a turn based fighter I've seen is a PS1 game called Dragonseeds. The battle ground was a 3 concentric circles that you could move in and out of. You had a couple of moves. attack would connect if you were in the closest circle. Special would launch a fireball that could hit any distance but could be interrupted with attack or reflected/blocked with reflector. Reflector would reflect special attacks up to a certain limit (after which it would only negate them) but did nothing to physical attacks. Intimidate, which raised attack. Move in, and move out. Each turn was made of 2 actions (which played out from both sides simultaneously) so you could choose any of the different actions to string together with the only indication being an icon where the round counter in most games would be lit up to show you hade made a section.. Each turn took a few seconds on the timer and if a timeout occurred, highest hp won. The game was strictly an RPG with stats like HP, Attack, evasion, wisdom, and weight (counter to evasion)
