The Shrek Superslam community recently came under fire after a leaked tournament ruleset required showers after pro player "0ne" intentionally didn't shower in a technique he called "Shrekma" to throw opponents off, however he was arrested for grooming right after this incident. There was another incident where an audience member threw a dead fried donkey at a competitor to express his anger. Several high level players also expressed outrage that their limited edition Shrek 2 GameCube controllers from 2004 were disallowed at the tournament due to a broken stick allowing infinite crumpet dashes. Top player Betarad said on stream "This is a disgusting act of prejudice against high level players. If I can't play with my controller WHICH I NEED TO PULL OFF TECH I might as well not play." Seconds later his door was kicked off its hinges by a SWAT team who arrested him due to leaked DMs with a 14 year old player. All in all despite being a children's game and not wanting to be apart of the wider FGC Superslam has fostered a terrible community.

There was also the incident where fans got angry that Gingerbread Man got announced as a new character, claiming "no one knows who he is" while getting angry Do The Roar kid didn't get in, despite the lead developer stating he has no interest in including him due to limited moveset potential.
