I had a like setup when I was an carpenter apprentice. I had it on a job and the customers safety officer made me get rid of it because of the knock outs. He said the knock outs made it unsafe. He told me that a solid box would be allowed. 😊

I'd add a handle and/or a hook to hang it up somewhere too

There are a bunch of these extension videos. This is about the best of them. None of the others have four outlets while still being compact. Also all the safety measures and good practices are in place here.

Drop some of those mouse ears in the bottom of your tool bag,they come in handy as spacers to bring a sunken receptacle out flush with its plate…

Hey man, that's cool. In the 80s I used to build those, I bet I had to make at least half a dozen of those because people kept stealing them.

I've made several of these for job site use. Half the time the other trades would end up using it and I was stuck with using my generator😂.

You sir definitely know what you're doing. I just watched a video of some dude making a "Super Heavy Duty" extension cord with mc cable, using a Romex connecter on the box (at least he used a red bushing) and then also buying a outlet cover like the ones you are using and then putting it upside-down on a 2 gang handy box. I never cringed so hard at a video ever before in my life. I wish there was a way to report a video for causing brain damage Lmao

Folks be careful with the Lowes links here. They changed the knockouts on the 4x4 box at the link. Make sure you find the one that has 1/2 knockouts on the side. The one at the link no longer does.

Hi John. Thank you so much for watching the video and leaving a comment. I really appreciate the catch you made on the link for the 2-gang boxes. Lowe's must have changed the boxes out. I searched into the correct box, that reflects this video, and corrected the link to direct people to the correct 2-gang box. Thanks again!!

As a Superintendent for Commercial Construction for over 45 years I would advise people to only use this for personal use. If this was used on a professional construction site anywhere on the west coast you would be fined and the cord removed immediately. That being said I have done this in my earlier years as a Framer, from experience I will warn you to NOT use this cord in the rain, it's a shocking experience! LOL!

Just purchased all of supplies listed, question could the two receptacles be grounded in the second box instead of running them to the first box?

Hi! Thank you for watching the video. As long as your ground wires are going to the grounding screw in the metal box and the pigtail wire from the ground screw is connected to the ground wire in the extension cord, you should be good! 👍

Awesome. Ty for the great lesson. You just earned another sub. I do have one question. Does it matter if the plugs are oriented in different directions?

Hi Jose. Thank you so much for watching the video and leaving such a nice comment. That is a great question. It makes sense to have the receptacles in different directions to accommodate for larger plugs. You can easily do that without any issues. Thanks again 👍

Where is the gfi receptacle on the 1st outlet so the rest of the outlets are going protected, but great project.

Hi Bruce. I mentioned in my description that it needs to be plugged into a GFCI. I probably should have said it in the video as most people don't read descriptions. 😂. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment, always appreciated.👍

Wont you have issues with these on the job site ? Osha and all that.

Hi. That's a good question. You need to look into your area codes and work accordingly. What is allowable in one state might not be allowable in another state. Example: many generators that are sold across the U.S. are not allowed in California...but, all other states allow them. This receptable station is for indoor use on a jobsite. Where I am located, they are allowable. Thank you for watching👍

why did you not use jumpers beside sets of plugs instead of running all back to the extension cord??
@YouCanDoIt2
@YouCanDoIt2 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lathern. You can do it either way. I chose to do it the way you see on the video to make all connections in the first box. Your suggestion works as well...either way gets the job done 👍
