Finally got done with this one. Zack does very good work and it shows in this custom. Can't get over just how good he got the grip dialed in on this wheel. For me a least!

I wish I was into Sim Racing when this wheel was available. For reasons I'm still not sure I started driving an Audi in ACC and never changed and it would be nice to have an Audi wheel. The one thing I can't figure out is for the amount of money this wheel cost, why there isn't an Audi logo on the wheel. They included stickers and I saw a sticker with the Audi logo on the outside of the case. Is there an extra licensing fee to include a logo on the wheel? I've always wondered if that's one of the reasons the Fanatec Porshce and Nascar wheels are so expensive.

Keep in mind that the Audi wheel is the same as a Lamborghini GT3 wheel. So there may be replicas of specifically that one available. Another curiousity is that the original wheel has some very complex geometry which is quite hard to match in a small workshop. Thus most of them, including this one, aren't actually true to the original design, rather they have a flat faceplate and a squared off plastic casing in the rear, instead of a rounded off one like the real deal. Real one also has paddle shifters that are much like road car shifters in that they aren't magnetic and the travel is quite small, they click more like a mouse click. Though this does not seem to be a well liked feature in sim racing for some reason. If you're interested in DIY stuff and can settle for a different GT wheel, a much easier project is to build a Mercedes GT3 or an Audi DTM wheel. It's reasonably simple to build provided that you have the time, will and some basic power tools plus a 3D printer. Parts are under $100.

The back enclosure is imo to soft for a Q1 release adapter because there is no internal frame with bolts trough When you mount a direct drive on full force you may damage it

Hey Barry, I wanted to ask if you had a preference or could comment on the differences between the grips on this rim and the SSRG sportline rim? I'm on the fence between the two and comfort/ease of grip is important with minor joint issues I have. Many thanks

After pulling both rims out and testing again. I still prefer the R8 rim design. It is a bit fatter in places than the sport line. I find that the more a grip fills up the pocket of my palm, the easier it is on my wrist. Turn also make an R1 standalone rim that has the exact same grip. That, with the addition of an Ascher Racing button plate, is my daily driver. But, of course that does not mean you will feel the same way. Rims, like seats, can be a very personal thing.

I've been throwing around the idea of getting a nice rim and I have been looking at either one of the cube controls formula wheels or this wheel from turn engineering. Would you recommend either one over the other?

Cube controls make a very good button plate, and you can even get it with illuminated buttons. You can chose whatever wheel you want to use with it. But there is an issue with some wheels not having a deep enough dish to clear the bottom mounted usb cord. I go over this in my review of the Spenard Simulation version of the cube GT wheel. That said, the fat grip on the Turn Racing wheel is my favorite. My daily wheel is the Turn R1 rim with an Ascher button plate. Which is the same grip that his R8 wheel has. Of course rim feel is a very subjective thing.

@@simracinggarage3026 ok, thank you. I think I would like the fatter rim as well. Plus the diameter would be better I think then one of cube's f1 wheel. I want something that's cut off on top. I use vr when I can so illuminated buttons isn't important.

@@simracinggarage3026 Hey Barry, Well I picked up the R8 wheel and I have it on my SimExperience base but I would like to move it and basically give the coiled cable some room to breath. Do you have any kind of recommendation for that? Some kind of spacer or shaft that will bolt up the the base and the Q1R quick release. I don't need a ton of space but as it sits right now the cable is rubbing the bolts holding on my DSD button box mounting brackets.

Looks like an old fashion DIN connector that was used before RCA to connect Hifi equipment, but with the addition of being able to secure it. I mean the one for the USB signal with the coiled cord.

Once you have one done, any further one is cost only a small fraction of it. BTW there are very very few parts on it that could need a machine. Using a aluminium plate makes the price even more of a joke.

Hi berry, I truly hope you can help me. I own this Exact same wheel made by Zach at turn racing. All the of Suede has worn off of my wheel and I desperately need it to be re-wrapped. I have zero grip left, I have really put this wheel to good use. So my big problem is, I did ask Zack if he could help me out, but he’s too busy.
