It seems I can't comment to peoples comments on this video. This just started and only on this video so far. I don't know why. I will try to figure it out and get back to those asking questions. Stephen Craig - I would think your battery is not strong enough to activate the relay. Try a stronger battery or put a charger on it at the same time.

This is all clear but why not also mention the warning light wiring (one single bulb)? That's what I was looking and waiting for. I own a Suzuki GS 500 K6 (2006). Everything works fine, I'm just curious to understand how this "turn signal warning light" is connected. There must be something I fail to understand checking the wiring diagram.

My question is, how would I wire this if I was using one switch, say the original turn signal switch on my bike? would the one wire coming out of my flasher go to the switch, then from the switch I would run a left and right power wire to the lights, then ground the lights? I think I have it figured out by drawing my own diagram. but not sure? this seems very simple. I cant find the original wiring for the turn signals on my bike, it didn't have any turn signals when I bought it but had them at one point.so I figured it would be easier to use the original switch (found that LOL) and just rewire new turn signals.
@PaulPomerleau
@PaulPomerleau 7 жыл бұрын
Yes you have it exactly right. Wire the output of the flasher to the common connector of your switch and then the 2 outputs will go to the left or right side lights. This will direct the 12 volts to the correct lights.

I have a 67 mili amp drain and it's coming from my hazards. When I pull the two prong relay out the drain stops. All my signals, hazards, marker and head lights work fine. What steps would you do to find the parasitic electrical draw?
@PaulPomerleau
@PaulPomerleau 5 жыл бұрын
Troubleshooting this type of symptom is always difficult. Depending on the vehicle it could be using a Canbus system to activate your lights which uses low voltage communication between circuit boards and not just a straight 12 volt signal. This could be normal for your vehicle. But if it is not then it may be corrosion within the circuit. Either inside the relay itself or inside the bulb sockets, or the grounding wires. It is very difficult to say with the info that I have.

@PaulPomerleau
@PaulPomerleau 9 жыл бұрын
Fredy Mora Usually a 3 pin relay is an electronic version with a tiny circuit board. One pin will be battery, the other ground and the third is the output to the lights. This way the flash rate will be the same no matter how many lights you put on the system.

+Paul Pomerleau I found this: X = Battery (Power Input), L = Load (Lamp Output), P = Pilot ( Indicator Lamp).
@PaulPomerleau
@PaulPomerleau 8 жыл бұрын
+Fredy Mora That is what is considered an "isolater". You would add that to the existing turn signal in order to add more lights so it will not interfere with the existing lights. For example, if you were to put a trailer on your vehicle, or adding LED lights, this keeps everything separate so there is no interference and everything will work independently. Hope this helps.

Emprez hernandez The output of the flasher could be split and go to each switch. Then the other side of the switch will split to the lights on the left or the right (front and back) then ground the other side of the lights. That would work too.

Also, I would like to make this except I want to use a switch for the left and right turn signals and add hazards on a four light system. Any suggestions on what type of switches I need and what wiring diagram to use? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Best regards!

There are several ways to do this. You can either use momentary switches that you have to hold to make the lights flash, or use push on/push off switches that you can activate and then press them again to turn them off. Then a double pole push on/push off switch for the hazard lights.

+Paul Pomerleau Thanks for the fast reply Paul! Great information here! One more quick question if I may. I'm wanting to put this together but I want to use led marker lights for this project I'm building. Would I need to use one of those LED flashers? Or could I just keep it simple with the two prong flasher that your using. My project isn't going to have any other loads on the circuit, just the load from the other led marker lights and nothing else. I've subscribed to your channel. I appreciate you my friend! Take care!
@PaulPomerleau
@PaulPomerleau 8 жыл бұрын
The LED lights won't draw enough current to make the simple 2 prong flasher operate. You will probably need to get an electronic flasher. It will have 3 prongs, a positive, a negative and an output that will go to the lights. This way it will always flash at the same rate no matter how many lights are attached to it and not rely on the heat from the current. Any automotive store will carry this as people have to change the old one in their cars when they add a trailer.

The 2 pin flasher relies on heat from current to flash, the more bulbs the more current and the faster it will flash. The 3 pin unit typically has a pin for ground, another for battery +, and the third pin is for the flashing out. It is a fixed rate so it can be used for LED's and other lights and will flash at a constant rate.

+fadli afdi You will now have to incorporate a circuit board system into the switches. It is very easy and available from various companies. Some places like (SDC) SignalDynamics.com has various modules to do different things. Look them up, I am sure they will have something that you are looking for. There are other companies as well, a Google search will find some in your area.

There are usually 2 signal lights on at the same time (front & back). I would use minimum 16 gauge wire, but 14 gauge is better. Also I don't think AA batteries will have the current needed to operate this type of flasher. You will probably need an electronic flasher.

@PaulPomerleau
@PaulPomerleau 9 жыл бұрын
silencio azul Wow, this is a tough one. Just to clarify what is happening on your bike, when you are riding all your signal lights are off, when you try to signal left your front and rear left lights come on and stay on (no flash). Are your right side lights working ok? I doubt it would be a fuse. Remove both lights on the left and using a test light see if the 12 volts is turning off and on. Also check the ground from the bulb socket and make sure it is good. Check the flasher relay as well, that is about the simplest things to check first. I am not very familiar with Harley, they may have a circuit board that controls the signals in which case it won't be as simple as what is in my video. Good luck with this.

@PaulPomerleau
@PaulPomerleau 8 жыл бұрын
+Juan Ochoa On the end of the green and yellow alligator clips where they attach to one of the white wires going to the light bulb, you could attach the second bulb wire there, so the power would go to both sets of lights (front & back). This particular flasher will flash a bit faster since we are now drawing twice as much power. You could use an upgraded electronic flasher if you want to have constant speed and additional lights.

What would be the difference if my flasher has 3 prongs?
@PaulPomerleau
@PaulPomerleau 6 жыл бұрын
That depends what is written beside each prong. A "B" or "+" is your battery positive. An "L" is load meaning your lights going through your signal switch. A "-" is ground or battery negative. A "P" is for an indicator light on the dash. Yours may differ depending on who makes it and from what country, but usually it is stamped on the flasher unit or on the packaging.

The flasher uses current to heat a metal spring to open the circuit, either you will need lights that draw more current or your battery is not strong enough to deliver the current. Relays are only needed if the lights are drawing more power than the switches can handle. In this case no relay is needed. If I wanted to hook up an air horn for a pulsing alarm then I would need a relay because the switch would eventually burn out not being able to handle all the power.

Why it flashes faster when one bulb is out in a cat
@PaulPomerleau
@PaulPomerleau 9 жыл бұрын
o0Orange The inexpensive flashers work using current that heats a piece of metal that eventually opens the contacts until it cools again then it closes the contacts and the cycle starts again. So by adding more bulbs, or bigger bulbs the flasher will operate differently. This is why when you put a trailer on a car the lights flash really fast, or by changing the bulbs to LED's they may not flash at all... it's all about the current. One possible way to fix this is to change the flasher module for a better one, one that can regulate the speed of the flash no matter the type of bulb. This is usually what you have to do when adding a trailer to a car. The wiring connections that I show in my video remains the same.

Oh ok would I need a resistor if I'm doing leds
@PaulPomerleau
@PaulPomerleau 7 жыл бұрын
The flasher in my video is the very basic model and requires current to operate. LED's don't generate enough current. So you will either need resistors or get an electronic flasher which has a circuit board inside to regulate the flashing, then it doesn't matter what lights you use.
@bentley6028
@bentley6028 7 жыл бұрын
oh ok I have some just wasn't sure does it matter where they would go on the harness or no
@PaulPomerleau
@PaulPomerleau 7 жыл бұрын
Normally they would be near the bulb itself, but I guess anywhere on the wire between the bulb and the switch would be the same. Also the resistors are going to have to be high power ones about 10 watts each. The small 1/4 watt resistors will burn out or simply won't work if you are going to use the basic flasher module that requires higher current to operate.
