My very first that when I saw the tube shaped turning I saw staves. When you explained what you had with the lamination I would still call it staves but I understand what you are saying. We used many methods of glues ups at work to build the patterns we made. We used lots of segments and also lots of staves. I have done segmented turnings up to 8 foot in diameter. And made staved patterns as long as 10 feet long. Some straight some tapered. Another method we used was canted staves and canted segments. I still have some really old books(old when I started my apprenticeship so really old now LOL} that show a lot of those methods. You video has brought back a lot of good memories. Thanks! Gary

Thank you, Gary. When you see the full length video of the "cylinder" you'll see why I refer to each of the four staves as laminated.

Yeah I get it for sure. You have turned a lamination into a wide stave. So it is a lamostave LOL

Great video, i enjoy learning and want to learn, even welcome costructive criticism. I see what you're getting at though, I've almost completely stopped commenting in most of the fb groups because of the ignorance, then followed by the toxicity when somone tries to educate somone on something. All they want is an echo chamber of atta boys and thats amazings. Im pretty much done with all of them but the World Wide Woodturners and my local DAW.

Yeah, some people can be nasty, Ray.

@TheMessyStudio problem is I guarantee they would not be addressing me with anything but respect in person lol! And that's why I hate social media because I can't physically remind them😇

Billy I feel it's down to the person and where there are originally from. Your sheet rock is plaster board in my language. So much gets changed in languages . I would leave them to it my self .

lol I almost forgot how crappy people are, and then I get you need to clip your fingernails !!!!!!!!!! lol I thought segmenting was hiding the end grain, but what do I know, I've never done a segmented bowl
@TheMessyStudio4 ай бұрын
One goal of segmentation is, in fact, hiding the end grain. However, on some feature rings, that is not always possible. Without wasting way too much wood anyway. Another goal is creating patterns by using contrasting woods.
