Turn Traction Control OFF! Why and how: Ford Mustang

I have a 2003 mustang and when I turn the car on the only light that is on is abs and check engine light but when I try and turn tc off it does not light up on my dash. So how do I know if it is turning off or works?

The light on the traction control button itself will tell you the system is off. The light on the dash (wheel spin logo) turns on to let you know traction control is being activated only while the wheels are spinning and its actually cutting power

I got my GT with something wrong with the ABS module. Stated it was fixed before being sold. One thing I noticed was hitting the Traction Off button, it does not light up or show anything on the dash. One day, I pulled out the gauge cluster to install some LED lights and saw there was no bulb in the ABS socket. ABS light is always on. Does this mean I have no traction control? ABS light stays on but there is no light on the Trac Off button!

Grass Board Nerds My white GT does that and I even swapped the switch. It’s off because when I spin the tires it doesn’t shut it down and no light on the dash (except when starting the car up), so I’m good with it but don’t know what’s going on lol

On my 00 gt auto the abs and traction control lights are on as soon as I start the car any reason as to why? When im going 10 mph or so and gun it ,it gears down to 1st and hits rev limiter and then cuts power for a few seconds.

Josh Uraz a tuner is the easier way BUT I've also seen a control module that reverse wires it. You're best off putting that money towards a tuner though. I was in the same boat

Technically you can unhook an abs sensor and it will turn off the traction, and abs. Don't really say that's the best idea either! Lol I've done that, doing brakes for the first time on the Stang. Lol

Itz Dixmond when it is off it will light up orange. The dash has a green wheel spin logo that illuminates when the wheels are spinning and the traction control is on

Not sure if I’ll get a response but mine doesn’t cut throttle and there’s no tune keeping it off (still get the green wheel spin light) but all it does is keep accelerating but you can feel the tires spinning and trying to catch. But is there a reason mine doesn’t cut power?

Danny Johnson I don’t want traction control off that’s what happens when it’s on. The light itself is off although I’ve never pressed it. Like with traction control on when it’s cold if I floor it the tires will spin but they jump like they’re trying to gain traction and the green light turns on with no power cut.

Raw Creations No. With it on it will cut the throttle for a few seconds. Turn it off and learn to let of the gas and apply the gas as needed to control tire spin

If you spin the tires and the green wheel spin light comes up on the dash it’s still on. If the tires spin with no light or interruption, it’s off

No, but a problem with the abs actually turns the traction control off so the button will light up for that. You can try cleaning the abs sensors- but hopefully it’s not the abs module

The best way is to get a Dyno tune, so you’ll want to find a place that does that and ask them which software they use. More than likely SCT tuners

My cars switch won’t turn it off at all when I turn the key to on the light comes on the button and cluster. Also have a p1000 code and a sct x4 screw the whole car up so ordered a new pcm reman expensive I did a big burn out the light came on on dash but I had no power loss at alll

It may have triggered the abs system, or if the abs system is malfunctioning it will automatically turn off the traction control. The same will happen if you remove the abs light bulb from the cluster. You may want to try cleaning the abs sensors kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYncpWhomdx_eZI

If you do not have the switch, then your car does not have traction control. You do not need to turn it off. However, the V-6 mustang only has a open differential, with power going to one wheel. Freddy C Once the abs system has a problem it automatically turns the traction control off. It will be turned off until the abs is fixed (even taking the abs bulb out will cause the traction control to turn off and the light on the traction control switch to light up

Scott T You definitely want abs so your tires don’t lock up. What I was getting at is when the abs system fails it typically turns off the traction control. You want the traction control off, but don’t want to lose the abs

I first made sure the traction control was off before wot but once I shifted into 3rd the car fell on it face like it does when traction control kicks in and all of a sudden picked back up and I noticed the traction control light came on in the dash. Modesto Escobedo If the light came on it sounds like the system did not turn off. It can be turned off in a tune, but that’s odd it was still on when you had it turned off. There are other things that can cause the car to fall on its face between shifts . One being the pprv (positive pressure relief valve) in the fuel tank. The valve can be deleted or you can try to not let off the gas while shifting to keep fuel flowing. I know you said your issue had to do with the traction control light, but just wanted to mention the pprv as well

Danny Johnson ima do more research on the pprv I never heard of that but that could be the main cause, because I don’t understand why t/c turned off between shifts but not when I floored it in 2nd when it was definitely not hooking! That is for the advice I appreciate it

all you have to do, is take the shifter trim cover and radio dash surround trim off, and UNPLUG the traction control button. that cuts the feed to the traction control right there. the button in ON position, allows 12 volts to travel to traction control. the button in OFF position, illuminates the TC OFF bulb, and grounds the traction control circuit I ran a small jump wire from the TC feed wire to ground in the plug, just to make sure it's grounded and left it unplugged, and put the trim covers back on. presto- solved. full power all the time. you don't need that stupid plug in programmer thing.

It has either been turned off with a tune or you have a fault in the abs system. You’ll need a hand held tuner. Does it also have a check engine light?

It was not an option until 2001 I believe- in fact I recall a magazine article talking about supercharging a GT and opting for the 1999 or 2000 because it did not have that switch. It can really mess things up if traction control turns on when a supercharged car gets te power kicked off 😎

GAR A This is a very basic traction control system on the mustangs. All it does is cut power from the engine until the wheels are no longer spinning..THEN it takes a second or two to regain power, so you’re better off just doing it with your foot- letting off when it spins and being able to instantly apply power when you need to without having to wait

Mexico streets It’s off already. It doesn’t have it. You can spin your tires all day and it won’t cut the throttle. Some people actually looked specifically for 99/00 GTs without traction control for supercharging so the system didn’t interfere. My traction control on the cobra is tuned to be off, so any time I drive the car it’s already off

Why do the manufacturers have tcs on mandatory when the car is started? TCS should be an option to turn on not off. Really aggravating when my 2015('13) body impala is in service as off this morning for what? TCS stabilitrak problems, which when that service light comes on it cuts engine power from 300hp to about none at all. It was a rental car has 45000 miles now I know someone fucked up tcs racing because the dumb shit automatically comes on every time you start the engine. If they don't figure out why it is doing that. I am pulling the fuse for all the tcs and abs shit.
