Thanks for the info. I have had the RANGE DISABLER for 2 years this month. It works just fine, I may have lost maybe 2mpg but who cares, I like v8 mode all the time. I installed it at 70k, so hopefully I have dodged the carnage, and I get oil changed when it requests it, without fail. I would like more info on these programmers though. If I could find a way to disable the TCC lockup on my 2011 3.5 4t65e Impala, that would be awesome. Good Job on the info.

Short or quick version watch from 0:51 to 1:37......to disable V4 mode shift to L and press the gear shift selector mode button until only 5 appears to the right of the L (L5) on the screen and not 6. This will prevent the transmission from shifting up in to 6th gear as well as prevent the engine from going in to V4 fuel saving mode............Here's a thought for all of the GM rocket scientists, cut the fuel rate in to the cylinders in half on all 8 cylinders.

Thanks for the info. I drive a 08 Silverado with the 5.3l V8, (124,000 miles), and the AFM is really annoying. In town when slowing to a stop, the AFM seems to keep the engine in 4-cylinder mode till the vehicle is nearly stopped, which seems to cause a shuddering effect that you can hear and feel. I found that when driving in town with the gear selector in "3", the AFM doesn't come on so there's no problem. On the freeway however, I have to put the gear selector in "drive", and at 70mph and above, there is a rumbling sound that fills the cab when the AFM is on, and it goes away when the AFM switches off. At 65MPH or lower, it's fine which sucks because I like to cruise at 70-75 MPH on the freeway. I've owned the truck for two years now, and it didn't used to do this. I was thinking about getting the Range Technology module, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, or have any ideas on what's going on with my truck?

I have a 2018 Silverado. I loved him so much!!! BUT.. he has also started doing this and it seems to be a common issue with the lifters. I’m no longer in love with my truck 😢 But hoping I can get this issue fixed without having to start over with another vehicle. I wouldn’t buy the new glittery “convenient”vehicle again. I’ll take the old reliable truck next time. Way too many issues with all these new high tech/green vehicles. I’m not a fan!

I keep hearing everyone wanting to turn off the AFM. I'm a bit confused as to why you would want to do that. I have a Degree in Automotive Technology and Engineering and I am a Retired Toyota Master Technician. I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 Z71 4x4 Long Bed with a 5.3L V8. I ordered it with 3.42 gears in the final drives. It can tow up to 9,500 lbs. I love the fact that I can set the cruise control at 63mph not towing and get 23.7 mpg fuel mileage. The engine is Quiet with No Exhaust Sound. The RPM's are low. The Stereo is Great. If I need to Shit and Get I just drop the Hammer and I'm gone. The AFM Deactivates the Valves on the Inner 2 Cylinders on both Banks and turns off the injectors. It's not Quite as good as a V4 Engine but it does save Fuel and Reduce Emissions. In California the AFM saves me about $15 per each tank full of gas. I understand that the complexities of the system create possible maintenance costs down the road, but the system is already there and paid for when you buy the Truck. AFM saves me sbout $600 a year in fuel.

Supposing you've not seen thousands of posts, not only on KZbin but Google it. My 2015 GMC Sierra Denali with only 45k miles actually broke a pushrod. Damaged lifter and cam. Nearly 3k to get it all fixed. GM offered nothing. It's a industry know problem and *any* of GM's V8's can experience it, potentially more than once.

It’s the thousands it costs to repair the system when it breaks, that’s the issue everyone has with it. It’s a roll of the dice if you’ll get lucky or not and the early versions (I have a 07) run like garbage when it’s activated. Sitting in a rock polisher isn’t much fun considering what you paid for it and now I’m going to be thousand more into it since the system failed. My last truck (00 Silverado) went 389k before I sold it and it was still running great and never needed anything. Average fuel economy was better in the 00 without the AFM and despite what the numbers say was a lot more powerful too. Just my opinion. Pretty sure there’s a class action lawsuit going on because of it. Ford bailed themselves out, keeps pushing quality products out. GM took the bail out and products have gotten worse since. Last GM I’ll buy that’s for sure.

your first mistake was in your description of yourself, degree in automotive tech and engineering. first the idiots that came up with this terrible system should be sued for bad design. second, the money you save in gas is a far cry from the cost to repair. i just did mine in a 2016 tahoe with 111k miles. Cost was 5400. do the math , i didnt save crap. in fact it cost me money. so to answer your question, thats why people want to turn it off. by the way look up the issues its causing and you will see how really out of touch you are. here is the issue i have with so called engineers, they dont know how to fix what they design and then cant seem to tell people why their designs fail. its a terrible design and im all in for a class action lawsuit ( which i usually despise). I fix engineering screw ups everyday and think all engineers should be in the repair side of the crap they are designing. hope you not that out of touch
