Agreed. 5 years military R&D. I'd guess a part of the design was that the Alice be a US form of the Vietnamese X frame or Alice Light Pack. The full setup at 75 pounds. Yet 125 not abnormal. The pack can be used as a standalone at 40 liters without a frame. The frame then can add a pack board for the wife to carry a heavy load. The warriors back and knees should not be squandered. I'm not sure if 40 liters is just the interior or includes the pockets. I'd seen a full backbreaker on the AT. The trash can mod adds an internal frame. The weight of just the pack and straps without wet bags about three pounds. I may need to rezero the scale. That's an appropriate AT or hostel hop pack these days for 25-35 pounds without frame. You won't survive very long carrying 70.. .

i recently check my alice pack oldest one. i inotice that there 3 pairs of paracord 3 d rings bottom of radio pouch as you mentioned in lined with 2 drain holes lord and beholed. than i found your video. thank u sir sharing tips n tricks. chest strap as an option hold n place🙂🙂🙂

So the only issue with this is that not all ALICE packs have the ties and the d-rings inside. I believe the ties and such stopped being put in the packs midway through the production of ALICE packs. But hey, works great as long as you have an earlier produced pack!

Nice video! I just tried with my mint condition LC1 Pack from 1974 with the quick release waist Strap. I have nos LC2 sholulder straps for This and sits quite high up on the back of the Pack, like that of ww2 mussete bags 😅

it definitely is very high on the back, suits a smaller framed person well tho (kids, etc)

the shoulder straps are removable and can be attached to the frame or just to the pack if you wish to not use the frame, make sure when buying one that the shoulder straps are included
