Beautiful work Billy. You could have done it, but the steady rest really did help you with the hollowing process. Gorgeous vase you’ve made.
@TheMessyStudioАй бұрын
Thank you, Doug! Yeah, maybe, but with the inclusions in it, I really didn't want to risk getting a catch and seeing a 25 pound chunk of liveoak flying around the shop.

Billy, I wouldn’t call it chickening out. I think it is better called “Good Common Sense”. Good job

Thank you so much, Jackie! I knew a lot of viewers would be taken aback at first. I wasn't too sure myself. But I'm really happy with how it came out.

I like the idea of a powder...but epoxy is a much better idea than CA glue.

Nice vase!!!! Question: are you still using the Elbo hollowing tool? I have one but haven't used it for a while! I rewatched your original video about adding the thread rod to tighten it. I'm planning on making one tomorrow.
@TheMessyStudio18 күн бұрын
Yes I am! I use it regularly. And on this vase.
@jonsayre9404Ай бұрын
Beautiful!! I use Milliput from the Uk instead of the 2 part epoxy. Question: at the end of your video when you were cleaning the bottom, how did you hold the vase in the chuck ?
@TheMessyStudioАй бұрын
Thank you! I held it with the shark jaws of my Vicmarc VM120 chuck.

Billy...I have a question...you said you were going to fill in the cracks or something with oxyoxolate. Now oxolates aren’t good for kidney issues...I know it’s a vase, but people have been known to take a swig of water from them (hey, we all do desperate things...or if hiking, and someone found a vase along their journey that had oxolates in it...would that leech into someone’s system (like they say plastic will if put in microwaves))...will the oxolates you apply around 23:05, rub off on someone? By the way, would you like us to call you Mr. Burt?
@TheMessyStudioАй бұрын
I said epoxy off the lathe, Morgan. I don't even know what an oxyoxolate is.
@morgancalvi6675Ай бұрын
@@TheMessyStudio yes, I was mistaken..I went back and listened and turned on closed captioning and you indeed did say, ‘epoxy off the lathe’. Say it fast though and it sounds like, ‘oxy-oxolate’...which to be honest, isn't even a word...lol. My mistake, never mind. It’s a beautiful vase....one I’d buy for sure.
