Let’s put it this way…Sentosa is home for extremely wealthy Singaporeans with big, expensive homes and cars. Little motorcycles and scooters are generally ridden by a different class. Sadly, the regulations are likely intended to keep a certain group of people out. And this is coming from someone who genuinely enjoys visiting Singapore…😊

Interesting that it's the other way around in Dubai. Here only people who are considerably well off choose purchase and use motorbikes. ( except the 100cc bikes that the delivery guys use) .
@Lesteryky
@Lesteryky Жыл бұрын
This is only partially true. The main reason motorcycle is banned from entering Singapore is due to noise. The wealthy doesn’t like the noise that come from all sorts of motorcycle so they decided to have it banned completely. Exception will be given to residents that reside in the island and also delivery riders.
@sysays_sg
@sysays_sg Жыл бұрын
@@Lesteryky The official reason by Sentosa was that the roads are too dangerous for motorcyclists. Sharp bends and steep slopes with large blindspots make it a liability for Sentosa should there be an accident involving Motorcyclists and other road users, even if the motorcyclist rode at reasonable speeds. Hard to say if this will really be the case if they started letting motorcyclists in, tho. But it is true that some of the roads there have sharper curves and slopes than South Buona Vista (99 bends). Whether this will draw dangerous riding in Sentosa... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Sentosa is strict on residents as well. Even if you stay there and own a motorcycle, you are only allowed to use it to commute directly to and fro the island exit and your residence.

It always takes the eyes of a visitor to realize how wonderful tiny Singapore is even with all the tight regulations. A lot of us locals take it for granted how efficient and safe our small country is. I wish you could have had more time to check out and review some of the motorcycles and motorcycle culture we have here. It would be very interesting to hear your thoughts and comparisons since you come from somewhere that is entirely different. I hope you've enjoyed your short stay in Singapore. I'm a fan of your channel and the stuff you do. A lot of stuff in Singapore isn't cheap and it does cost quite a bit to visit but I do hope you do return one day and do a bit more exploring. Enjoy your holidays in Bali! I've been there a few times and it is really nice. The riding there in Bali can get quite adventurous and hectic. Have fun and take care!

Hey Freddie. Kenneth here. im a Singaporean. Have actually been watching your channel and videos for quite some time and have been subscribed to your channel. Always thought that youd make a good motorcycle host and reviewer (your voice and charisma and knowledge) after watching your video on the speed twin and interceptor comparison, and that you truly deserve more views and likes. Its really upsetting to see that you had a 'negative' expererience being turned away when you tried to go to sentosa. I saw that you made a video about the 'eye watering; costs of motorcycles in Singapore, and am really glad that you managed to capture this in your video. Really sorry about that but this is kind of like the reality as bikers in Singapore face. As a Singaporean and a lover of motorcycles and biker myself (V-strom 1000 2014), its really hell on earth to own a motorcycle and to own one. The amount of regulation is crazy here in Singapore. Going to town becomes a nightmare because they do not allow motorcycle parking, we cant just park on the side of the road even though we aren't blocking any cars. Its a huge mess here in Singapore. COE Prices for motorcycles have skyrocketed to 12K SGD (basically this certificate you pay for to own a motorcycle for 10 years which has to be renewed every 10 years). Its a huge huge mess in Singapore with a lot of ridiculous rules and regulations. However, Im glad to see that you are here in Singapore. Would be nice if we could meet up and go for a ride say youre still here. Its also good to know that the place youre from is more motorcycle friendly that Singapore and that its much more affordable there than here.

I first visited Singapore in 1988 en route to Australia. Had the great good fortune of going back several times and would love to do so again if I can ever afford it. I love the food, the cleanliness, the politeness and the transport system. The highlight for me has always been the zoo, especially since they introduced the night zoo. Marvellous place but I'll be stuck in chilly old Essex for a while yet 🙂

Does all this anti car/bike sentiment have an effect on economic growth? Perhaps they think it's a price worth paying, or does the economy adapt accordingly?
@ReizePrimus
@ReizePrimus Жыл бұрын
@@michaelcrouch5708 There isn't any anti-car/bike sentiment among the populace itself per se, it is merely just the over control antics of the hyper rich and the government. The current state of vehicle prices have directly impact the economy, as higher COE prices means higher transport costs means increasingly more expensive goods that need to be transported around the island from warehouse to retail. Locals don't think the price is worth paying, and the economy isn't adapting to it. Those that would have their quality of life suffer from a lack of a vehicle merely begrudgingly pay for it, potentially going into debt and living month to month, and it will only get worse as urban planning increasingly makes driving more convenient at the expense of improving walkability/cyclability and a metro network coverage, despite the car-lite angle the administration publicly angles at.

My wife and I love watching your adventures, bike reviews, café reviews, etc. I commented the other day, "I want his life!" Can I make a request please? I think it would be cool if you put your Bonneville into a specialist motorcycle detailer and have it professionally done, complete with paint correction and metal polishing, etc. It'd be interesting to see how it looked afterwards. It would probably ride better too, lol. Keep up the great work, you guys. We really love what you do. Kind regards, Dave & Sue. :)

I was there in the early 70's as a young teenager. Memories of the open air cinema at Aggie Westons around the pool, traders playing Mahjong with long little finger nails, the night market on the Bukit Timah Road, the torture scenes in the Tiger Balm Gardens. We had a snake catcher who'd pop up into the roof space and fill a sack once in a while. No windows in the house, just bamboo blinds that rolled down. Warm rain most afternoons. It was so different, so exotic and vibrant and I loved it.

That 'huge' contraption on the handle bar can also be found in a car too. Not just for exiting car parks, but also to pay for electronic signature road pricing (ERP) charges. It's a form of Pay as You Use as you enter into certain areas like CBD (Central Business District) and highways during peak hours. London has a similar system, which duplicated Singapore's ERP system.

It's a liability and insurance issue for Sentosa hence even before residential projects were built there, motorcycles were never allowed in. If you noticed, there are some motorcyles inside used by Sentosa Development for patrolling etc and they carry a 2 color plate instead of the regular black, white or yellow plate. That's an island plate issued only for used on islands in Singapore like Sentosa or Pulau Ubin.

There are some exceptions to the No Motorcycle rule. They include Sentosa's island rangers carrying out their duties, emergency, essential services and dispatch riders delivering documents and packages to our island partners and Sentosa Cove residents. Several Sentosa Cove residents also own motorcycles. However, they are allowed to ride only between mainland Singapore and their homes via the Sentosa causeway bridge.

Singapore is a bit snobbish when it comes to motorbikes on Sentosa. There's tons of parking, so that's not the issue. Only security, residents and delivery bikes are let in. I lived on Sentosa for years and hated this policy, especially as I wanted to rent a bike before buying and couldn't get permission (even as a resident) to temporarily bring a rental bike in.... Now living in Bali and riding a RE Meteor 350, which btw are incredibly expensive in Indonesia due to luxury taxes (around 6,500 pounds). Enjoy your time here, ride safe, and try to stay dry!

“Sentosa's roads are relatively narrow and winding and flanked by trees. They are also often single lane in each direction and this creates blind spots for drivers. Due to their small size, motorcycles are usually more vulnerable to accidents on such roads, especially when weather conditions are poor. Motorcycles tend to pick up speed faster than other vehicles. Given the island speed limit of 40kmh, speeding vehicles could pose a danger to guests walking along or crossing the roads. Motorcycles can also be easily manoeuvred into areas such as pedestrian pavements and buggy tracks where other vehicles cannot gain access, and compromise pedestrian safety.”

It’s a norm actually especially for those riding smaller cc bikes, it’s an asian culture. Anyways i hoped you enjoyed your stay here. Hmu if you’re coming back. I’ll show you the ‘real’ motorcycle scenes here :-)

Singapore has changed utterly from when I was a child growing up there. We lived in Sembawang and it was all Mangrove swamps at the bottom of the road and the Seletar reservoirs were just being built as the Malays turned the water off every afternoon. I am jealous, as I would love to go and see for myself. Don't drop chewing gum though!

Ya there are big signs outside Sentosa that says no bikes on the island. Only resident's and delivery bikes are allowed in. You could have parked at the mall Vivocity next to the bridge into Sentosa and walk less than 100m within the mall to the monorail into the island. Yup you're right about the bike parking lots, and the malls. About bike parking lots there are season parking vs visitor parking. You can park anywhere it's always at your own risk of a fine.

WOW has it changed there since the 80's..LOL..and that skyline didnt exist either...i do remember seeing big Chinese Junks out in the harbor..yes..the food was excellent...we ordered from menu's that were not in english and we had no idea what we were getting..LOL..good times...excellent video...

This is fascinating- every menu that we saw was in English, although there are very definite old school Chinese spots, where everyone, every shop and everything around is Chinese. The locals told me that every year Singapore changes fairly significantly

Alternative way of entering Sentosa is to take the trains on top level of the shopping mall VivoCity where u can park ur bike there . It costs abt 3 dollars on the train only.

Not sure why you got asked to take a cable car at Mt Faber to get into Sentosa. You could have parked your bike at VivoCity shopping centre and then take a monorail into Sentosa island.

Freddie how on earth do you change up the gears in flip flops that's gotta get painful or do you just develop calluses on your feet . Lovin the views from the cable car but would I go there no afraid not to restrictive for me . Monica if you had to do it again it would not be on that red bike or the scooter be honest Freddie can take it 😉👌👍

I'm not sure about this bike but I know some Royal Enfields have heel shifters specifically because it's so common for people to wear flip-flops in India. Never used one myself but I believe you press down with your toes to shift down as usual, and press down with your heel to shift up.

I spent the first two days feeling very restricted (because it really is), but by the end of the stay everyone seemed so happy with how things were, I did understand it. This is probably Monika’s last YBR experience😆

Singapore is a place where you're actually better off not having a vehicle at all. The MRT goes everywhere and is dirt cheap as is a Grab Taxi and you don't need to worry about having a few too many Tigers..

wait... why do you guys need to take a cable car to sentosa? You could just walk in though (crossing the bridge). I think it was because of time constrains? Id assume after you'd been turned away it was about 5-ish pm? Anyways yea, you don't have to catch the last cable car. Welcome to Singapore! :D

A little gutted. If you're looking for a bike that was made for the area, SEA in particular you should have used an "Underbone" bike. They're all under 150cc, and use the same clutch system as the Honda Dax, despite being confused for scooters. Bikes like the Honda Blade and Yamaha Jupiter (in Indonesia. In Malaysia they're the Honda Dash and Yamaha LC). They would be more commonly used compared to the bike you have in the video. Haven't seen a western motorcycle channel use nor review those bikes and whilst unnecessary for them to do so, I still think it would be fun if someone did.

Back then, riders would enter sentosa to race and have meets. This caused the ‘inhabitants of the island’ to raise their concerns. And that sucks on a whole new level
