I would love to know if you have any advice for shops that made childrens handmade clothing? 🤔 I can't find anyone that can give advice for shops that that made handmade clothing, for adults or children. I am not talking about T-Shirts, or premade clothing. Nothing wrong with that, it's just not what i sell. 🤩

I think we are in the same boat. I'm realizing Etsy is not for me and I'm looking elsewhere. I believe with Etsy I'm competing with what essentially are online retail stores that have a creative idea applied to the product, but have other companies do the actual work. That's a different ballgame from what we do.

However, we as makers need to go the extra mile and learn marketing, even on sites that just cater to the makers. I'm going to continue listening/subscribing to Brand Creators for the marketing education, but knowing I need to be on a different selling site, not Etsy. I just can't compete with Etsy's definition of handmade (plants handmade??). Please share if you find any good market places. I'm sure we are not the only ones who need this.

I missed the livestream and can't see any feedback or questions from viewers, so you may have already addressed this. My question is, are you mostly addressing a business that modifies existing products or do you also discuss in depth truly handmade items. I have mostly done craft fairs, but now want to sell online. I don't want to start with a website, because I need more online selling first on a platform where handmade doesn't get crowed out or overshadowed by overseas cheap labor. Etsy seems to now cater to any sellers: retail stores (that's what I call modifying existing products), overseas manufactures, & possibly resellers (I'm not sure about that one). When I search for handmade, I even get living plants that are listed as handmade. Honestly all businesses take some creativity to succeed, but Etsy seems to be letting these sellers use the term handmade. I'm a one person shop and hand weave on a loom the fabric that I then sew into a throw pillow. The cost for each averages about $100. - $140.

Etsy only allows handmade items to be labeled as handmade. Anyone claiming it's handmade when it's not is violating the TOS.

@@brandcreators I'm thinking the term "handmade" is subject to interpretation. I'm a gardener myself and I never considered a plant handmade. However I think your advise may still help me on a different selling platform, were my competition is not all sellers who modify existing products (made by another partner/factory), but truly are the makers themselves. I guess I'm looking for advice on what Etsy originally started out to be - a true handmade market, for makers who are not contracting out the majority of the work.
