Working in South London today after an EICR we carried out failed its inspection and as a result we have ended up replacing all three Db's in the property.
The other job we have to do here is to replace the main supply from the meter which is on the next video...

those LAP light fittings tom are SAXBY Nitro LED rebranded as LAP. spoke with a saxby rep and he confirmed. they also make a plaster in bezel for these fittings. just installed 81 in a smart home project wicked lights! (the saxby badged version is the same price). Also mate, I use the Intumescent sealant instead of fire foam. its the same stuff the fire barrier guys use in risers

Using the test adapters also include testing the integrity of the contacts in the light fittings which are bypassed when you go direct to the connections on the back.

Hi Tom and all. Thanks for the tips on the comments you write on the EICR forms. It's an improvement on what we currently write on ours and our inspector said the same last time he was here. In the spirit of returning the good advice, I would highly recommend checking out Electraform, the cloud based certification software service for sparks like us. We used to use a well known PC/Laptop based one and the issue was always getting the certificate numbers right and having to wait for our electricians to send back their certs and reminding them if they didn't. It's really easy to use and set up. It takes a little getting used to (at first the being online and having to re-type if you lose connection is a bit frustrating) but once you do get used to it and embrace it, it really does make a difference, especially if you have a few people doing certs. Being cloud based means you are always up to date. Our team have being using it since we came back from lockdown and prefer it. We have tried the NIC EIC one and its just not for me or our team at all. For the record, I have no affiliation or links to the company, I just want to spread the word about something that makes my business better and makes the job easier for our lads. Our industry is finally gaining some positive momentum with all the new tools, accessories and young smart electrical apprentices, we are all finally sticking together to make positive changes for the better. Thanks again Tom. Nice to see someone on the journey we had and for keeping it honest and real.

Trunking I use a hammer and a cloth to protect the surface from the impact. Cloth folded over 3 times to make a nice thick cushion, and tap gently to close it, then slide the hammer and cloth down to zip the side closed all the way down, and do again for the other side.

That is just an excuse. He is really breaking into the property. He doesn't make a very good burglar though. I mean, not only is he revealing his face, but he is also recording himself breaking in. Explain THAT to a lawyer! And now, day 2, breaking and entering again no doubt and bringing in his assistant with him! I wouldn't be surprised if he made her break in this time just for some practice!

Agree with LAP. For example, their cheapo sp double sockets are exactly that, cheap and agricultural (fitted some once due to budget for upgrade later) but the DP double sockets are not bad, nice finish, smooth switches, ok terminals, for the money ya can't complain. Match in with MK stuff too, never mind the wierdly seized/poorly threaded terminal screws on MK light switches that nearly break the fitting...

hi Tom, there isn't a requirement to fire seal behind a consumer unit, the whole thing about the consumer unit being made of non combustible material is so that if a fire does start in the CU it doesn't fall apart and become more of a problem. or at least that's my understanding of it.

I keep having the budget fitting discussion with people online, mainly from Germany, who seem to think if something's sold in DIY stores it's automatically bad (completely ignoring the fact that almost all DIY stores also sell all the respectable brand stuff, although one chap has gone as far as claiming that even those manufacturers supply inferior products to DIY stores than to electrical wholesalers). One brand that comes under fire particularly often is Kopp. They sell pretty much everything you need for first and second fix, except cables and wires. Their switches and sockets get lots and lots of flaks and comments like "No electrician would ever use them!", as do their MCBs and RCDs but I know plenty of places that must've been wired by qualified electricians, surely the city wouldn't get DIYers to wire new blocks of council flats with hundreds of flats, and most still work after close to 30 years!
@davidquirk8097
@davidquirk8097 3 жыл бұрын
LAP lights good, LAP switches/sockets junk in my limited experience (I only used them once, never again) The screw terminals in the sockets and switches were under engineered and the threads stripped before a reasonable tightness could be achieved. I've used loads of the LED lamps (GLS replacements, down lighters and strip lights) with no complaints at all.

Not convinced by the LAP lights, I have seen so many problems with their previous products that I am wary of trying anything else from them. My current philosophy with downlights is where possible to go for separate bulb type units, that way if the bulb goes the customer can replace it rather than me having to deal with replacing the whole unit.

Because the most likely place for a fire to start is in the distribution board - the cables themselves are most unlikely to spontaneously combust. I wouldn't put it past IET to insist on everything in metal conduit in an upcoming rework of the regs!

12:47 Duuuuude... still way to aggressive. Just clip on the first 20-30cm, pull away the lose end in a nice big curve and just swipe it on with your palm. Almost no pushing or hitting needed for this job. Try it out! By bending the lit away from the trunking, the edge will spread a bit apart and than it's just swiping.
