Turning a 30$ Doll into a 300$ Doll!

For those of you who wonder why I would sell this doll for 300$ even though I “just” repainted and bedazzled her let me explain why! As a self employed person I have a lot of expenses because I have to pay for my business AND my private life! That’s why I have to charge a higher hourly wage! On this doll with all the inspiration research and the mock up and planning I spend around 8-10 hours. So if I charge 30$ per hour which is not much for an artist (some charge 100$ per hour) I end up at about 300$! I hope that explains things a bit better ❤️

Us artists shouldn't have to explain ourselves when it comes to prices. People say I charge too much for logos, but my set prices are actually quite low. ($300 for customers, $200 for friends and family) Most professionals offer logos from between $200-$2,000 depending on difficulty, but I have to value myself as well.

For those of you who wonder, why if I sold her I would sell the doll for 300$, even though I "just bedazzled her and repainted her", let me explain why! 💕💕 As a full time self employed artist, I have a lot more expenses than someone who is employed somewhere because I have to pay for my business AND my private expenses. (health insurance, studio rent, accounting, software, materials, food, apartment rent, etc.). This is the reason I have to charge a higher hourly wage. In total I have been working on this doll for about 8-10 hours including research for face up inspiration, making the mock up, thinking how to bedazzle her clothes, painting her face, etc. With an hourly wage of 30$ which is actually not much for a self employed person (there are people who charge up to 100$ per hour) it is easy calculated: 30$ x 10 hours = 300$. I hope this explains everything a little more. 💕

I think artists shouldn’t explain themselves when it comes to pricing. A piece is worth as much as someone is willing to pay and your works are top class, sooo I wouldn’t be surprised if you would like to charge more ❤️✨

That kind of fine detailing has to be so incredibly challenging. Because you're so gifted you make it look easy when in reality it's so hard. You do beautiful work. I do artwork, drawings and paintings, just for fun. But any kind of fine detailing and making faces symmetrical is time consuming and difficult. I can't imagine how much harder it would be to do such work on a rounded surface than it is on flat paper or canvas. And your imagination is incredible. So charge what you want girl, you deserve it!

@@Nailianna As an artist I disagree, NFTs can be charged for absurd amounts of money for just an worthless PNG, does that seem fair? I get a bjd being pricey, a painting, a digital artwork because I worth my art to how difficult it was to make personally and I know how hard art can be(thought time is a important factor too), but sometimes art can cost more than it should since artists are people and people can be greedy, this is obviously a exception but what I mean is that I don't think this mindset works at the larger picture

@@tiffanymichaels2429 I personally don't like to say gifted because no one is born knowing art, their skills evolve over time and Moonlight is so good because she has experience and I appreciate that, as an artist my art is good now but it wasn't always good, I had to do many drawings until they started to look good and I still got more to go Sorry if it sounded rude it's that this makes people think if they are not automatically gifted at something it's not for them when that isn't true at all, I just started trying to make a ball jointed doll and while hard and ammatourish I know if I continue to train sculpting and find the right materials for me I can be great!

Sunshine Gurl is one of my favorites from the OMG line, when I see her pastel outfit and pink hair I think of Dollightful because I could see her rocking the fluffy jacket and butterfly clips. Next doll I would love to see is OMG Sweets. She's my all time favorite and I'd love to see someone style her hair differently and brighten her lipstick up just a bit.

I LOVE your makeover! I would totally buy this for $300! I had to go buy one of these dolls I liked her so much. She's not as awesome as your finished version though! But we do what we can! lol People that post hate about the price of art don't realize that it's not just the art piece itself that you're buying, you're also paying for the years and years of practice and work and improvements, the unique vision of the artist them self, not to mention the art supplies needed AND the TIME it takes from start to finish! Even if the price was broken down simply on time alone, if she was being paid 25 dollars an hour, 300 dollars would equate to 12 hours of work, which I think is more than fair for a unique art piece. I'm not going to sit here and figure out itemized art supplies for what was used on this doll, but if you went out and bought this doll, the paint, acetone, brushes, glitter, glue, rhinestones, all that - you're going to pay quite a bit for that stuff alone, so adding the artist's profit on top - 300 is more than fair.
