Cyber spider man?!?! How have I never seen this before? So awesome and totally 90's like you said :'D I think I would lose my mind trying to do a pixel portrait of spiderman, with all of the mask lines :'D You did a great job with that, especially the colour step transition with the darker colours for the animation, really awesome technique! Thanks for sharing as always Brandon :D

The little inflection on the word "CYBORG" while it animates in is such a cool look! And the colours totally did look particularly good on the CRT at the end. I wonder, is there some sort of formula to that? 🤔🔎 The new year is off to a great start with this comic book rendition; do you have any hopeful goals for this year? Me personally, I'm gonna try to make at least TWO videos before '22 is over! 😆
@BJGpixel
@BJGpixel 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude, I always love when single words are given a pop of colour or a flourish like that - it's a nice substitute for emphasis when there's no actual voice acting! And yeah I hope I can figure out the 'formula' one day for what looks nice on the CRT. A lot of times certain colours don't translate 1-for-1 to the display, but in this case my theory is that the saturation must have been in an ideal spot :D Haha that's great, best of luck with your video goal for the year - I'll be looking out for those! And with it being 2 vids you can check-in half way through the year and see how that's pacing out 😄 I think a goal for this year is gonna be to take on ambitious challenges in my art; things that'll get me out of my comfort zone and continue to improve. We'll see how that goes because it's often so easy to default into familiar technique 😆
@CKTDanny
@CKTDanny 3 жыл бұрын
@@BJGpixel The CRT formula would be such an interesting topic to learn more about! 😱 And yeah it looks like you can really narrow it down by looking at individual values like that! Getting out of the comfort zone sounds like a good practice for this year 😁 I hope we both achieve our goals! ✨

Man, each time I watch one of your videos I get new insights on ways to improve my technique. Like the constraints of finding the smallest detail and interpreting that into pixels. I feel like if I had tried to do spiderman that low res, I would have not been able to figure out the black lines on his costume. Creating detail correctly is my biggest hurdle so far. I love these videos! So much fun.
@BJGpixel
@BJGpixel 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks dude! Yeah it's super tricky sometimes, especially a tiny detail like lines on the suit😅 Sometimes it's an 'order of operations' kind of thing. Like if my goal was to create a nicely detailed portrait, I'd probably extrapolate from that tiny detail to select a more appropriate resolution, but in this case when that space was already somewhat defined, it's a bit of a trial-and-error puzzle to find what works! Thanks for watching and all the best with your art! :D

LMAO! Every time I mentioned CRT time you changed it out to that picture frame or cad crap. Love your videos and your art. The giant robot cat fighting in the city is my favorite. Lot of details and perspective. I do have to admit the cad software being in pixel form was still interesting to me because it was low poly pixelated and 3D but it looked hard to work with or less forgiving in area's of rendering capabilities. Your 2D art is really good though. You are one of my favorite artists. I give you this virtual medal in order to honor you my friend! 🥇 Don't try and sell it cause they won't give anything for it. 🤪🤣

"SCORE: 1992" I see what you did there. Great work as always Brandon. It's always a treat seeing a new video from you. Something you've done before that I'd LOVE to see more of is making a manga page into pixel art. Perhaps it could be an old classic like Sailor Moon or Evangelion, or maybe something newer like Dragon Maid or Demon Slayer.

Nice, interesting idea! From the thumbnail I expected you to remake the cover art in pixelart, but this is fine too :D When you were doing the linework, I thought it would be great to add subtle tech pattern in the background, without outline - and then you added it :D Lovely idea with portrait disappearance animation - I especially like the grid effect. Very subtle, but adds some "flavor". "Cyborg" text highlight was also a great touch. Spidey-sense halo seems to be a light source for the room, it matches the highlights :D
@BJGpixel
@BJGpixel 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I actually love this cover so much, it'd be awesome to revisit and do a pixel redraw of that too! And thanks for noticing, I did sort of think of that halo as a light source; doesn't really make sense physically but from an artistic standpoint it seemed like it'd unify all those highlights to a common source 😆

Is there a good term for the practice of using those colors to create the scientist's skin? I've seen several games use that formula of a main yellow tone, red/orange for shading + color depth, and reusing the white of the eye for a shine. I adore creative use of color like that within a limited pallette
@PureAsbestos
@PureAsbestos 3 жыл бұрын
I think it's partly based in reality. Lighter skin tones can be a bit yellowish, and the more reddish dark tones might be interpreted as subsurface scattering (and it kinda brings the "average" color closer to something reasonable). Not sure if there's a name for it though.
