In this video, Sam turns one of his favorite projects, a cross-grain lidded box. The wood he uses is Rosewood for the box. He adds a Holly handle into the top of the lid. He chases threads in the Holly handle to make the connection with the top of the lid. Contact Sam if you have any questions. SAMANDCHERYLE@GMAIL.COM

Beautiful little box Sam. I just love the contrast between the rosewood and the holley.

Very nice box, that rosewood is beautiful. Interesting to see your approach to turning this cross-grain box. I like the tenon on the lid.

You have an outstanding piece of rosewood. But of course all rosewood is outstanding. You certainly did it proud in producing this little box. The fit and finish are beautiful. You done good Sam.👍👍 Is there a special reason for threading the holly knob? I don't see a need for ever removing it so a glued tenon should work as well. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

Very elegant, Sam. Did you not possess the die and stock to thread the holly? Bernard.

You use the word stock??? Not sure what that is referring to. Are you talking about using a Die for threading the Holly? First of all, I don’t have any dies for this purpose, and I am afraid it would twist off the little tenant. I was threading because it was so small and diameter. Sam

Sam, I have reread the transcript, where I see that you used a 5/16"(8mm) tap, at which diameter I would not have been comfortable hand chasing 16tpi. So as it was holly I would have been more confident using a die. The double handle to drive the die is a diestock; in speech shortened to stock. The nearest to this diameter I have worked has been 10mm, on already drilled out pens, with no twisting off, but rather inferior threads. So possibly a language difference here. Thanks. Bernard.
