I'm about to make a square bowl from a complex square, segmented glue-up, and your demo has given me courage! Thank you.

It’s very important the blank is precisely square otherwise it doesn’t work out. Making an absolutely square blank can be the greatest challenge in making a square bowl.

Hi 👋, That is a great looking 👀 square bowl 🍲. I didn’t see the make of your finishing product, But I Not sure if you no about some oil finish they spontaneous combust, I knew about this many years ago, but there was a KZbin link by somebody a few weeks ago that was doing experiments with oil finishes on rags and paper tails , if they are put into a container or even lying on the floor, they can catch fire. It might take a few hours but the experiment the sky done was very good. It’s partly to do with somebody losing their workshop I think somewhere the end part of last year, great territorial lovely finish on the square bowl, I look 👀 forward to seeing your next project, Be safe, PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.

Very nice. This is something I want to try again. The last time I tried it my square bowl turned in to a jigsaw bowl. Pretty sure there are a couple pieces I still haven't found... but that was pretty early in my turning experience, so maybe it's time to try again

Beautiful. I need help. Tried this many times and can not get edge thickness even all the way around. 4 tips are usually thinner than sides. Suggestions?
@lathedback Жыл бұрын
hmmmmm.... I start at the tip and slowly work my way in. meaning, i turn about a quarter of an inch at the tip. stop the lathe, check the piece, then turn another small portion. you can also even out thickness by negative rake scraping the bottom side. Hope that helps.

I bought a small lathe two years ago but I'm afraid to take it out of the box. Now that I saw the lady at work making beautiful objects I made a decision. Because I am a very strong character I will sell the lathe and get a hot dog cart. I believe not to burn.
