Actually it is possible, altough with this amount of material it will be a bit complicated. Normally to do this people work with 5t of material and the machines are designed to work with this amounts.

the whole point behind the metal ball was the polishing and perfectionism. All the time it takes to get it perfect. It shouldn't even be a challenge in the first place, now we got all these people just riding the trend for views. The knife this guy made is pretty cool doe.

I still think it was cool see that it was possible at allt o do with that simple method from foil without putting it all in a cruisible, i did not tought it would melt together that well without delamination. This method is usable with steel (i hawe done it my self with steel blades, as well as pouring molten metal in a sand form), but i had newer seen it been done with aluminium this way before. I think that's what made this sticking out from the regular challenges.

Nice job, sir ! Aluminum knife. It should be light and easy to handle~ I need to have one ! One curiosity. Could it be possible to ditch in thin carbon steel on blade side looking like Swedish laminated knife? If aluminum binds tight enough with the steel, it could be done(I think..). Well, I have done this sort of thing with a fiberglass, trying to make a light weight machete and I still use it.

That's a cool idea. You could sort of dovetail it in or something. I like that. I know next to nothing about aluminum-steel interactions though. I guess my fear would be that the aluminum would deform under repeated stress against the steel, but that might be unfounded.

I stumbled onto this video just because I was curious to see if there were any actual videos about tin foil, which is awfully useful for cooking. I thought I might find a video about the history of tin foil. 　 Can one make a knife out of aluminum foil? Apparently, one can. 　 But it strikes me that the process of doing so is downright stupid, in light of the fact that it's pretty darn easy to pay good money for a properly made knife. The tools needed for making an aluminum foil knife aren't exactly cheap, judging by the video.

It seems to me that once he got the shape of the knife he switched to a regular piece of aluminum that had also been machined to the same shape. Once he was polishing it the switch had already been made. When he hit it with a hammer again it had a different sound. Also hammering the aluminum at the end was done to change the texture so you couldn’t tell visually that it was no longer foil but a piece of aircraft grade aluminum. Another switcheroo! At the risk of sounding stupid, if you're going to make a knife out of aluminum wouldn't it make more sense to melt & cast the knife, then work harden it, and then sharpen it instead of using aluminum foil this way. I seem to recall that someone tested it and found that no matter how much aluminum foil was compacted, it would never be as dense (and in this case as strong) as a solid cast block of aluminum.
